Selling on Etsy and shipping furniture can be very intimidating. I waited quite awhile before I dipped my toes into Etsy. I’m not an expert, but I will share what I have learned so far. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

My restoration process involves the following steps:
* Thorough sanitation
* Stripping and sanding through the proper grits for a smooth finish
* Refinished with quality products from General Finishes.
* Sealed with two coats of an oil based polyurethane.

Lisa, Thank you for doing this. I have been painting furniture for a few years since I retired. I used to do dressers and other large pieces, and occasionally I enjoy panting a dresser again. My current Etsy shop are “smalls” and I ship usually through pirate ship. I have only listed the dressers on FB Marketplace,but my area is so saturated with others doing this that it has slowed somewhat . Now that you have describes the process and provided the Uship landing page, I am going to list the one dresser I have left and see how it goes. Thanks again.

Oh good! I hope it works out for you. On a side note, I noticed the Uship estimates are a bit low. I would recommend just creating a shipment like you are ready to ship and get some real bids. I found the bids on two recents pieces were about $100 over what the estimating page said it should be.

Thanks for this video, it was very informative. I have been considering selling on Etsy but had concerns regarding shipping. I read the information on the site about Uship but 1st hand experience is always more valuable. I feel more comfortable knowing the furniture is most often not loaded and reloaded but remains on the same vehicle from pick up to delivery. Thanks again for the information, much appreciated.

I've done a lot of shipping with Uship and Freightquote, more Freightquote. Yes, buying the insurance is a great idea, but the deductible is about $750 or $1000 so that screws up your "safety net", unless Etsy has worked out a special deal with Uship I dont know about. Also, I've heard the failure rate of shipments is 3% for Freightquote, item lost or gets damaged, Uship is higher from my understanding.

I believe Uship uses a processing fee. It’s $100 up to $1000, but jumps to $500 for $1001-$10,000. I have only shipped 5 items with Uship so far, but have had excellent results.

Great tutorial! I have a couple of questions. Do you pay the shipper before the buyer pays you? Also on the Etsy fees do they fluctuate based on the price of the item?

Thanks Cassandra! No, I always wait until the buyer pays me before I book the shipment. That is the downside of not having the shipping included in the price, but I’m not familiar enough with shipping prices yet to bake that into my cost. My two recent sales were going to the coasts and although Uship gave me an estimate, the real bids were $100 higher. On one of the orders, we mutually agreed to cancel the order because I couldn’t find a shipper that was close to the initial estimate. That’s the tough side of Etsy. Yes, the fees will fluctuate because they are based on a percentage of the sale.

Thank you for replying to my last message! I have one more question that I’m not sure was addressed yet. Do you print out a shipping label and packing slip and put it in the dresser? Or is it not needed? How do you get a tracking number for it?

There is a shipping label you can print out from Uship. I usually tape it on top, but it’s not always necessary. I enter the shipment number from Uship into Etsy as my tracking number. I hope that helps 🙌🏼

About two weeks. Some take longer. It seems to take several days for Etsy to get your listing into the algorithm based on your keywords and tags.

Directing customers to pay for any part of the transaction off etsy (even shipping) is against their policies and if caught will result in your shop being suspended or banned altogether.
