I am starting at a fine dining establishment. My question is, how can I learn more about the wine if I don’t actually drink alcohol? I have tried a lot of wine in the past so I am familiar with the different kinds but it has been a while and not all Chardonnay is the same.
For sure not all chardonay is the same :) Ask the guests about their experience and use that when you describe the wine for the next guests. You can taste wine without to drink it, if that is an option for you! Check the wine course at the Waiters Academy. It will be ready in two weeks

Good question, Elle! Yes, we will! We are there to serve the guests and if that is what they want, this is what we will do. Except if this is a party and everyone has to eat at the same time the same dish! Then of course we will kindly deny the request.

Hi sir I'm a vegetarian yet I work in a restaurant with Lebanese cuisine they are famously famous for their grills, sometimes I find it difficult to upsell this items cus I don't even eat them yet I don't want to lie to the guess what do u suggest I do because I really love up selling plus our management provide a certificate each month for the best seller of the month plus a big fat tip
YOu have the problem my wife has :) This is what I do! For example I don't like to drink white wines and I don't test every white wine that we have in restaurant to be able to sell it! I talk to my guests and I ask question: What do you think about that wine? What is the flavor, the body overall test? Then I use this to describe the wine to other guests! YOu can do the same! Ask your guests about their experience with the meat dishes and then use that as a selling point to your other guests! You don't lie to them this way and you do your job as a waiter! What do you think about that?
@@TheWaitersAcademy thank you sir I just had the interview with Marriott yesterday I was asked if I could sell a stake after testing it but I told the interviewer I'm a vegetarian he was quite surprised but I let him know it doesn't stop me from selling or upselling the item that I just need to know how it's prepared and definitely can tell how it taste he was pleased I was being honest with him. so I passed through the second stage for the interview and I was asked if I have any questions I asked him if I stand a chance of getting thos Job he said he had put my name on the training list and that I will here from them in 10 days so what do you think sir do I still stand a chance of getting this job or not?

YOu have done well! Get really prepared for the second interview! It will be harder and the questions will be more in dept and detailed!
