Very interesting, Bill. I started watching your comparison of FW15 vs the Toro Timemaster. I bought a 2022 Scag SFC30 for my house in late May. I love it. Fixed wheel version. Could get caster kit later. I love its mulching out of the box. Seems to be feeding the lawn. And it has rear bagging or side discharge. Disappointing about the Ferris FW15 performance for its price. But it must at least feel great in maneuvering?!
I would think with a larger engine than the competition (a friend of mine had this engine on an old Deere neighbourhood style rider with a 38" deck) it should actually perform better. Scag and Toro have smaller engines on their respective machines, Scag having a 270 or similar beast and I don't even care for Toro...worst lawn mowers I have ever used. Scag's machines look impressive too but lack something both the Honda HRC216HX and this Ferris have and that's the hydrostatic transmission.
Update - The FW15 was sold with in a hour of posting this video to Lawnmow Carlo of The Cutting Force. Check out his video on his initial thoughts after buying this mower from me. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0UDpEqWqXOE.html
Wow that’s one nice mower wish you had it for sale close to where I live. Would have been there same day. Looking at getting one of these and the Ferris SRS Z1
Thanks for commenting! Ferris really do have nice quality mowers. The FW15 is a little beast of a mower. Having a SRS Z1 as well, would be an awesome setup for small properties.
Where did you buy the gator blades for it? I have the mower, just installed a grass flap but I’m hoping it’ll mulch the clippings better with those blades, I currently have the stock ones.
I bought the gator style blades from Ballard-Inc.com they call them Ripper blades. I personally did not notice any difference vs the stock blades. The wavy style blades from Ferris do mulch better in my opinion.
I really do miss the FW15 but the main reason I sold it was the handlebar is not ergonomically designed. Very uncomfortable to operate after a few hours of use causing hand and wrist pain, especially on hills.
I’m a big fan of Scag but I agree with you. We demoed both Scag 30 swivel and non swivel front wheels at the GIE in 2021 and our first impressions were not so good. Leaning more towards a turfmaster.
They're overblown bad reviews. I have a 2022 fixed wheel for my home, and it's great. The cut is great., The mulching is great. The bagging great. It's super tough and simply built. Many pros like it. If you try to muscle it around like a Timemaster or other lighter pushmower, and not use techniques with the transmission, that's where the complaints of it being a blue whale heavy pos arise. It's largely nonsense.
@@ThatCrazyGrassGuy After posting the video, Carlo of The Cutting Force called me and wants to buy the FW15. I think this mower is a good fit for his business.
Thanks for commenting! I agree, the Turfmaster HDX 30 or the eXmark commercial 30x would be the way to go. Although the Scag 30 seems like a good choice as well.
I’ve been listening to you talk trash about standers for 5 years and now you’re thinking about buying one??? Lol Man if I had the cash I would’ve bought this off of you
I've looked at this mower and quite honestly I like my Timemaster 30 better, call me crazy or whatever but my Toro cuts nice, in fact it's even been said to cut better than the Ferris FW15 at half the cost. I don't do stand ups or zero turn because honestly that's just being lazy. I grew up with mowing crews using Snapper push mowers and they never complained. I don't see spending the loads of money on equipment like that because honestly it doesn't impress me. It pains me to say this but people in America have become lazy.
Thanks for commenting! We are fans of the Timemaster as well and currently have 3 of them. You’re not crazy, I totally agree with you that the Timemaster has a better cut quality. Here is a link to a video I did comparing the FW15 to the Timemaster. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xnh2m4PIe3E.html
I absolutely love your comment. I love push mowing. That's the only kind of mowing I'll ever do. Plus, I believe you get the best cut by push mulch mowing every 3 days during the growing season. I push mow 18,000 sq.ft. of lawn with a Honda HRX217, GCV20 and I also mow with my 2019 Ferris FW15. I love ever bit of push mowing. 👍🏽👍🏽😁
its not laziness, its efficiency. I can cut 2 times the lawns with a stander than with almost any walk-behind and save a lot of energy. When working solo its huge.
