After testing both Toro model 21199 vrs the latest Ferris FW15 I can't say you did a fair evaluation. You never showed the blades under either mower before and after. Every test I did with both brands both with exact new blades the Ferris out performed the Toro on cut. On both dry, wet and tall grass. I have never known a Ferris to under perform. I think this is a matter of loyalty and sponsers interferring with an unbiased test.
Thanks for commenting! I agree, I could have done a better job comparing both of these mowers. I put nearly 300 hours on the FW15 and really don’t know why the cut quality wasn’t any better than the Timemaster. I tried both mulching and hi-lift blades. I sharpen them on a regular basis but really didn’t see much difference in quality. There were always stragglers.
@@BillyGoatLawnService It could be a number if things. Type of blades, type of grass, shape of belts, pulleys and so on. While I like my Toro I truly love the Ferris. I live in East Texas, we have to deal with all type of tough grass like bahia. But I have never had stagglers with the FW15. I have had to double cut if not triple cut with my Toro if I let the grass get to tall. But I mulch with the Toro so the blades do not have much lift. The FW15 has a deeper deck but the lift volume especially if I use mulching blades will not leave very many stragglers if none at all. You said your FW15 had over 300 hours, perhaps your belt tension has to much slack. Things like that can affect performance.
Thanks for commenting! These transmissions are fine for residential use but we use them commercially. We mow several properties with steep terrain. Not sure why but the transmission tend to slip to the point where there is no traction. At some point, I will make a video of the gears inside the transmission.
Yo yo yo. What up bill. Great video. Always learn something when I watch your channel. Been very lucky with original 30, haven’t had to do this yet, (knock on wood) but obviously….. I know it’s coming lol
We have several yards with steep hills. Our timemasters definitely get a workout. The transmissions just don’t hold up. Now I have a stock pile of old transmissions sitting on the shelf. Would be nice if they had rebuild kits. Figured I would make this video to help pay for my next transmission. lol.
Great job bill! Video comes at a good time too. My transmission isn’t sending any power to the right wheel. Haven’t looked at it yet to see what’s going on but after 5 years of abuse it may be time to replace mine
First time buyer for Toro 30. I had to return 5 and buy from 4 different Lowes stores. That sound of the belt when you engage the blades, it does that a lot then the blades wouldn't engage anymore. The one i have now works better than the last 4 but every time i use it it pisses me off for like the first ten mins, even mowing low grass. So disappointing and tomorrow i will be returning that pos. They're not gonna keep my money got me f up.
Thanks for commenting! Toro has been selling the timemaster for a decade now. They made some improvements since then but there are still a lot of customer complaints with certain parts wearing fast.
Always enjoy the shop videos Bill and I must say you make it look simple but after 4 I guess you've mastered it!.Also like how it's done with basic tools I'm seeing them pop up on FB so it's just a matter of time before I spring for one✔️💯
Always appreciate your comments! These type of videos can be a bit boring but I’m sure if you ever get a used timemaster, you’ll be replacing the transmission at some point.
If you buy the timemaster from Home Depot, they use cheap Chinese parts. My pulleys exploded catastrophically. I bought new ones from TORO and they never failed again. The 21199HD model is one to AVOID
Have you ever tried doubling up your blades. The typical x pattern. Alot of times this will help if not completely eliminateing the need for the cross cut. Saving huge amounts of time. Just something you might want to try.
personally I'd rather walk then ride on a sulky with my dr because one I do a lot of brushhoging of smaller brush and two I can already see turning is a pain on sulky with a dr brush mower. I can do a 180 no problem ware your only doing 90° turns maybe but struggling there. and doing side edges on a ditch you do a lot of back and forth and a sulky is no place for that type work. sulkys are for walkbehind mowers not brushhogs my friend.
Seems like a great little machine. Would you recommend someone starting out buy one of these or a pricier brand of 32-34” stander, like stander b? Thanks and great videos!
This mower is awesome if you don’t abuse it. Even though they labeled it as commercial, it’s more of a consumer pro. For heavy commercial use, I recommend Bradley Mowers from a price standpoint.
Thanks for commenting! I don’t have a video installing this chute blocker on my Scag but I do have videos installing it on my Timemasters. Much of the same concept. Videos are located under my Timemaster playlist.
Almost had some thoughts, but settle on the conclusion that the bigger metal pulley makes it run cooler? Did you even bother to crack it open to realize that the other gears may also be different ratios? Same motor RPM? I mean what are we talking about here? You are so simple it makes my head hurt waiting for you to kludge your way to the obvious. These are just words you've strung together like some sh!tty version of AI
Thanks for commenting! After all this useless information, I needed up going back with the original transmission with the plastic pulley. The only thing I do know, all these transmissions are junk. I did crack them open and noticed no difference with the gears inside the casing. Only difference is the pulleys.
I really do miss the FW15 but the main reason I sold it was the handlebar is not ergonomically designed. Very uncomfortable to operate after a few hours of use causing hand and wrist pain, especially on hills.
I bought a used timemaster 3 years ago, it’s a 2016 I think. I use it to cut 2 good sized yards, even loan it out to friends close by too. Was running funny, ordered a carb off Amazon for $13 and runs like a dream, ive replaced one belt. I keep it outside behind my shed, not Even in doors, for 3 months it’s covered with snow, and in the spring it starts right up. Best $300 I spent. Now thinking of upgrading the pulleys and putting a Kohler 224 on it for the extra power. It’s perfect sized, just squeezes through my gates
Thanks for commenting! The pulley upgrade is worth the investment if you plan on keeping the timemaster. I originally had the 2015 timemaster with the 190cc briggs but way under powered for commercial use. We now have 3 timemasters all with 223cc engines. I would love to upgrade to either the kohler or Kawasaki engine.
I never did inquire about getting another gauge. Was hoping there would be a recall since there are others stating their gas gauge not reading correctly.
