Moose Creek is indeed a special place. On your next visit hike up to the Ranger Station A historic place with lots of history. A volunteer caretaker will give you the history.
You just completed my bucket list trip!! As a pilot, backpacker and a fly fisherman I've been thinking about a trip like this for several years now. I had been thinking about accessing the Selway via the Magruder Corridor but your adventure looks even better. I'm going to add this to my itinerary for late next summer.
