Sembène Ousmane: Xala 

Xala is a 1973 novella by the Senegalese film producer and writer, Sembène Ousmane (aka Ousmane Sembène) . Born the son of a fisherman in 1923, Ousmane was brought up under two religions: Islam, and the indigenous Serer faith, of which he was, at one time, an official offertory servant. He was raised by his maternal grandmother.
