I'm telling you Google Dental decks they are flashcards for every single topic that cover the dental hygiene state boards and there's thousands of cards and every question on my state board that I took was in that Dental deck box that I bought
I dropped out of the nursing program bc it was literally h*ll on earth. Just finished up my first semester of my dental hygiene program and I really love how chill it is in comparison. I’m ready for this next semester! 💞🦷
Hi Lauren! I am glad you are enjoying your experience in the dental hygiene program! I however find it stressful but it is worth it. We have to find our own patients which makes it hard.
Keep these videos coming!! Haha I just got into the dental hygiene program I start in September. Thanks for sharing your journey with us! Great job on you 100% you should be really proud of yourself! Keep up the good work. I learned a lot watching this!
Great video I also was suffering over the holiday break with high blood sugar due to illness and also felt guilty sleeping in. As an adult diagnosed with type one diabetes it is amazing to me how much more in tune to my body that I am.
Thank you so much for such a detailed look at your experience! I’ll be starting my program in the fall and I’m trying to do some research to see more what to expect, good luck in the rest of your program 🦷
Thank you. Glad this video was helpful for you!! I will be making more updated videos as I finish each semester so feel free to check those out when they come out!! 😊
Either way don't worry about organizing all your notes that you have taken over the past two years trying to organize all that stuff is mine breaking .....ive as well as my classmates literally live by these flashcards months leading to the boards and we scored some of the highest in the nation here in Jacksonville Florida these Dental Deck cards you will score a hundred percent under boards believe every single question I had ..even though everybody is a random .were asked and they're just flashcards and they're fun and they are color-coded by topic example radiology vs. Pathology vs head neck Anatomy etc
Hi there, congrats on your first semester going well. I am from the uk and I just got accepted into dental hygiene school. I start in September and this video has been extremely helpful. I plan on starting a youtube channel based on my journey in dental hygiene school as there are not many dental hygiene students in the uk making videos like these, Good luck in the rest of your journey in dental hygiene.
Hello just came across your video! I am about to graduate as a DA dental assistant Jan 25th and am apply to be a dental Hygienist after that. I will have a 2 year waiting list for the hygiene program... is there anything I can study at home within the 2 years to get me prepared??
Hi Charmion! Congratulations on your accomplishments in assisting school! As far as studying, I would just keep up on your dental terminology and do any and all prerequisites to get into the hygiene program faster. Hygiene is way different and more involved work that assisting. Be sure to get plenty of chair side experience as an assistant as you will already be comfortable and familIar with the dental operatory. You most likely will have an infection control class, dental materials, and radiography transfer over for you as those are really the only classes that are basically the same for an assistant that can apply to hygiene. I hope this helps you out!! Feel free to ask any more questions if you would like. It’s a tough program but totally worth it!!
very nice and congrats on your 1st semester. This year was really tough for me has a diabetic but I accomplish a1c was 9.2 in beginning of the year and now its 7.4. Even though I am not in college but do whats called self education and I learn a lot just by watching free college lectures to used textbooks. I just completed Fall Semester 2019 and getting ready for Winter semester 2020.
I'm sure yours are just as complicated . we had literally 11 classes our first semester( the 4 of 11 includes labs one being instrumentation lab .. clinical lab a medical emergency lab..and I think dental anatomy lab. Histology and embryology medical emergencies head and neck Anatomy Dental Anatomy preventive Dentistry intro to instrumentation usage an intro to Clinic one that's all of the only ones I can remember from the first semester But please believe this girl when she tells you it is no joke when you have literally 8 classes technically you have more like 11 because labs are at a completely different time and scheduled on different days for compentences being( with comps making up 80% of the stress of the whole 2 years evaluated and sometimes you have t basically have to memorize every word in every chapter because you don't have a clue what's going to be on that test they might give you a highlighted handout the follow during presentations ...but you need to know every word of every chapter verbatim and you never know there could be four tests in 1 day depending on how many classes are that day we lost someone to pharmacology a year-and-a-half in you have to make it your priority if you can work part-time great I would highly not advise it if wasn't for me getting grants and student loans to pay my bills .well there's no way I could have prepared myself enough for this course and now I have tons of student loans and I am no longer a hygienist I left my license go 4 years ago. This is only my opinion everyone's experience is different I know people who love it and I've made friends for life and those programs that I just never could find a doctor that I got along with to work along for one I'm gay and it made it much more hard being a male not to mention gay in this industry it was actually exhausting just trying to find a job
Oh and in my community Dentistry class I believe semester V I got a letter grade got off my final grade because I missed a day which was for a funeral whereas I would have gotten a A I got to B
Weird nobody watched us scale. during boards I brought my patient in and one of the dentist just checked for calculus and God knows I can't remember the other criteria you had to meet that was a whole another nightmare. The dentist that were checking your patient just made notes they would leave the room I would have clean their teeth using any method I knew how because nobody was watching it was wonderful and then that same lady comes back in and checks it again when you're done
I know I'm yakking but I just find this fascinating because to go through something this strenuous and grueling and tedious only a certain amount of people know what it's like I know there are many hard programs out there mostly medical fields but there is something very very rigorous about a dental hygiene program that you just cannot explain people think they're going to enroll in the college and just study hard and pass all the tests and be the best in their profession there so many different levels and volunteer work and presentations and certain types of patients that you hope come back so you can get your grade for your bitewings that day or what not play resorts to have a staff member observe you to do sealants on a child and the child does not show up I mean you have to be on top of your game as well as on top of all other people you see in patience you'll have to wash and sterilize instruments for the class you'll have to go to some of the worst parts of town and volunteer and some of the city rescue missions I'm making it sound horrible it's just a grueling very very difficult program authentic nursing also nursing is a walk in the park compared to this program
It’s okay to express how you feel!! I appreciate your input and tips!! I love dental hygiene and can’t wait to be educating patients and cleaning teeth on a regular basis!! Thanks for watching my videos!! 😊
Do you have to be smart to get in the program I’m actually starting this spring and I’m kind of nervous because I was told that getting in the dental hygienist program is more like a competition
You need to be smart with your study habits is what I say. If you got into the program, you passed all your admissions testing which makes you stand out from others who may have applied and did poorly. It is competitive but once you get in, it is so worth everything you did to apply.
Hi Kerly! You have to study over a period of time for every test and not cram information. I do not work in dental hygiene school-I do not need to as I am blessed to have scholarships that fully fund my education. I worked hard in high school to earn these scholarships through merit and good character. I did work part time in high school and also maintained amazing grades. What helped me the most when I worked in high school was planning things out using a planner or personal agenda notebook/calendar and finding a balance of when you would be able to complete assignments. Hope this helps answer your question! :)
How long does schooling take I know a lot of people say 2 years and some say 4 years but I only thought 4 years was necessary if you wanted to later on teach
It depends on if you want a bachelors or an associates. An associates is what I am getting. It takes 2-3 years with general education to complete as you will most likely be on a waitlist for program entry. Typically to teach, you need a bachelors but you can be a part time clinical instructor with just an associates. Although I am not completely sure on that answer myself. Hope this helps!! :)
