CallMe Giedre in this video I only ranked the countries on their stage performance and not on the songs itself! However I also don't really like the song because it isn't my style... But I do respect the song for what it is!
someone pointed out on another video and I have to agree, it is because it is Ireland. If it were Sweden or Russia had the same song and staging, people would be saying its great and losing there shit. It would be oh we love the simplicity, but instead it's Meh. Ireland despite having the most wins, does not garner any favor from the media.
The choice not to have lcd screens it's just bad , makes it so 90-2000s. At the end of the day it's also a tv-show made for entertainment not only a song competition, okay Portugal !
I couldn't disagree even more. I'm thankful for Portugal's decision. This year, we get to see how many countries totally lack to deliver a good stage/show. Usually, all they had to do were deciding on a few effects here and there, because the LED did the rest. This year, the stage has to deliver an emotion, create an atmosphere, tell a story and a nice amount of countries totally failed. Sorry, but it's not too hard to create a good staging (Ireland being the best example here), especially if you're putting some thoughts and dedication into it. I'm really hoping for a Finale with Lithuania, Ireland, Finland and a few others. Because they really deserve it!
Miss Disnerd having only lights it's hard to do so , plus having led for years now it's just like doing 2 stairs up and 4 down ! Take Estonia for example and the projection dress that almost didn't happen. The point of view and creativity happens in a lot of ways , but why take down a very important element like the Led , if they want simple they can go black screen and only one light then and go back to 1960. I repeat myself this is also a program made exclusively for Tv and you go and take down the visual communication.
And once again, I totally disagree here. There's a good reason Portugal said no to the LED. People are soo used to the LED, they think good entertaining stage and LED are bound to each other. Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Czech Republic, Azerbaijan and Ireland showed us how much a stage can offer without LED. This year shows a nice variety of songs and styles. Since we don't have the LED, we're also going to have some really nice and different stages/approaches. I can assure you, with the possibility of the LED, the stages would all look extremely similar once again. Without it, people need to show a lot more creativity and I love that. I mean, most countries put soo much effort into their entries/songs, but as soon as the they hit the stage, they choose the "save way". Of course, I'm totally fine with people wanting LED stages, but you should be a bit more open-minded. A stage without a LED screen doesn't mean, it's boring or any less visually appealing. You just need to put more effort and creativity into it ;)
Miss Disnerd i agree with you that some countries were getting lazy and only using the led , but you could see the countries which had ideas and creative stuff even without the led involved that much but it was a great accessorie to have. Im mean take for example Eurovision 2010 which was a stage of only lights it's sucked in the point of view of the creative vision ! People wanna see designs, color, color blocks
Yes, there were creative stages even with LED, but most people don't remember it/care for it. As soon as a stage offers a big LED screen, the screen gets their attention. I liked 2010, despite a big beautiful stage, the focus was on the performer not much on the stage/LED. Take Lena's performance, it had something really imitate and people could easily connect to the song and the performance. If she had competed in 2011, the whole package wouldn't have worked the same way. I wouldn't be surprised, if we're getting another 2010 show, this year. Some countries truly knew how to use the complete stage, while most ended with a save, but boring setting... I wouldn't mind, if we're getting regular years with and without LED screens...
My top 19 after rehersals (it's really hard to judge after 30 seconds video, my opinion probably will change after 2nd rehersal and real show) 19.Czech Republic- one big cringe, it's really hard to listen to, and even harder to watch. 18.Iceland- the worst man outfit for sure. Staging is boring and the song isn't my favourite. 17.Albania- I hope the staging will be improved. The performance is great, but the staging is the worst one. I expected something more. 16.Greece- As i thought, vocally it's probably the biggest difference (right before Belgium). 15.Israel- Probably the biggest disappointment. I hope she won't improve this, because i am not big fan of this song and I won't be sad if she doesn't win. 14.Croatia- The staging and performance are really good, literally perfect. She suprised, but this song isn't my cup of tea. 13.Armenia- There is the last one that i don't want in final. The song is really average, his voice is nice, but long note is annoying. He didn't introduce me into euphoria. 12.Estonia- Surely qualifier and who knows, maybe winner? Performance doesn't look different than one in national final. I'm not sure what happened to audio quality, i hope that's only technical problems. 11.Switzerland- Great performance like always, but i miss something in staging, maybe with camera work it will look really better. 10.FYR Macedonia- Well, live isn't that powerful like studio version. Shame, because i thought the performance will save this one. 9.Cyprus- What is she wearing? Anyway the performance is great. To be honest i didn't expected this one will be so good, i thought it's the first candidate to flop. 8.Austria- Well, that was one of my favourites, but what the hell is this. I hope this 30 seconds aren't same like whole performance :/ 7.Azerbaijan- I am suprised. I liked the song, and the performance cause that i like it even more. The best staging i guess. 6.Belgium- Well, i have mixed feelings about this one. I really love the song, but overall it doesn't look good. I hope the full performance will be better. 5.Belarus- Well, the staging is nothing special, but it's not the worst one. I really like this song and hope he will qualify, but it will be really hard :/ 4.Ireland- I am glad to see dancers. Can't wait for second rehearsal, because i want see how they will show dancers and him on one screen. It will be hard, but i hope camermen will do great job with this one. 3.Bulgaria- I love this performance! That's exactly what i wanted to see. If someone has to win instead of France i hope it will be this one. I love the colors. It looks amaizing. Can't wait to see this on TV. 2.Finland- Great performance. I wasn't sure about this one qualifying, but now i haven't got any doubt. 1.Lithuania- simple, but really touching. I''ve never wanted something in final like this one.
This semi-final is soo hard that it's impossible to include the songs to my ranking with this staging.. For example Croatia and Ireland has one of the better stages, but the songs are not that good.. Then I will try to make my qualifiers/non-qualifiers (own opinion, not prediction): (EASILY) QUALIFIERS (6): - Austria (So great. Probably the performance will look epic on television! And a great song.) - Belgium (One of the best songs in this SF and has to qualify!) - Bulgaria (Great song and a great live performance!) - Cyprus (Song is amaaaazing & staging tooooo! Slayyyss!) - Estonia (Perfect. I'm speechless) - Finland (Best song in this SF & amazing live) BORDERLINES (7 , yes really 7/19): - Azerbaijan (This song got the three days before the first rehearsal day stuck in my head. A really grower for me. And now Aisel slayed with this amazing performance. I think it can be one of my 10 qualifiers in this bloodbath) - Czech Republic (The performance looks great. I think that it can be a big grower for me.) - F.Y.R. of Macedonia (The voice of Marija was this time not that good as I heard on the pre-parties. The performance looks imo too childish.. It looks like a JESC performance.. The song is one of the best. Probably still one of my qualifiers, but they can improve a lot!) - Greece (Good song, I love the cultural Greek vibes in the song, she needs to improve her vocals, because they are the worst in this semi-final in my opinion.) - Iceland (With this performance it's not anymore an easily qualifier for me.. I had chills when I listened and watched to his performances on the pre-parties, but now with the awful graphics and choir, I have no chills anymore.. That’s so sad..) - Israel (Funny song, good message. I really want this in the final, but there are really good songs in this SF..) - Lithuania (So touching, so warm, so beautiful. I really like it!) NON-QUALIFIERS (6): - Albania (Awful stage, it doesn't fit with the song. Albania made so many wrong choices this year... 1) not sending "Piedestal" 2) making from "Mall" a worse song (revamp) 3) changing staging (in the national selection it was better, but in Amsterdam it was perfect.. So sad). I am so sad for Eugent, he did an amazing job, but Albania is ruining it.) - Armenia (Everything is good. Great vocals. Song is not oustanding. I don't think that this will end in my top 10 in this SF.) - Belarus (Great staging, good song, but not outstanding. And I'm scared that his voice won't be as good as in Amsterdam, that was his best performance by far. I can't imagine that he will end in my top 10 in this SF.) - Croatia (Song is not good enough.. I'm so sorry, Franka, but this semi-final is too strong..) - Ireland (Sooo sad.. Perfect staging, but I have to put it to non-qualifiers, because there are better songs imo. I really like it tho..) - Switzerland (Song is for me place 10th-13th , but the staging is really one of the worse.)
It sounds better with the cameras etc (she posted a bit on her instagram story and deleted it afterwards cause she realised it's not allowed). The chorus didn't sound perfectly but it was way better and the verses sounded exactly like in the studio version

xzxyy 1 I think Fuego sounds nothing like a Dua Lipa song, and I didn't make a top on the songs but only on the stage performance! So I did not judge the songs! xD
I am pretty sure that the summer you will hear a lot of "dua lipa" songs!! So Cyprus song its modern, powerfull and people enjoy listening and dancing to it.. 😁😁
I am from Croatia and I think that Franka will be dark horse but there is one problem about good placing in Grand final. Crazy is not very memorable song but its still great. Thank you from Croatia in Zagreb.
