What a truck! 🤩 Great tour of this monster, and great job showcasing all of its amazing features. Thank you to the Mayor for being so gracious and letting us all take the tour with you. Looks like it was a fun interview!
Man that’s fucking awesome! I just gave up trucking as a owner Operator after 16 years. The industry has just been ruined by new drivers destroying the freight rates and then covid made the shortages come and now the parts are higher than ever plus on backorder. I said I wanted to RV for a living in the next few years. I can do something like this and still somewhat be fulfill my passion as a trucker. Im only 41 now and I plan on retiring by 50-55. This is my dream rig right here!
This is, objectively, the ultimate RV setup, overall and in every detail. Pretty remarkable. I would love to meet this guy. Thanks for getting it on RU-vid!
Did the owner mention how much he has invested in the truck and trailer? An awesome set up, and I'm guessing around $250,000 for the truck trailer and other goodies.
Rob quit telling everybody how much less expensive & easy to drive it is to use a tractor to haul your 5th wheel. You make it hard for those of us who know what a blessing it is to drive one to get a good deal. Kidding seriously I drove OTR, pulling a 5th wheel you can't tell it's behind you with that Volvo plus it responds like you're trailering a utility trailer behind a SUV. Hope to meet IRL keep living the dream Rob & Nina
Dude made his truck a temporary honeywagon !! Curious what the total cost was including purchase + repair/upgrades/customizations with the hitch and interior. I'd have a tough time getting into some sites, but I'd gladly pass that up to spend more road time in that rig. 🤣😂👍👍
Most states do not require anything other than a normal drivers license. Because the HDT is not for commercial use, no driver's log need to be kept nor have to stop at weight stations.
I like the Volvo VNL series. For a big truck, they are surprisingly maneuverable. The extended wheelbase on this one eats into that somewhat however. With the 16L Volvo and 12 speed automatic, it’s an easy drive. And the 9 to 10 mpg on the flat is very realistic. Plus being a commercial truck, it has a very long road life capability. Oil changes and fluid changes are measured in gallons, not quarts. Your not going to be doing much off road, or “over-landing” with this truck other than groomed gravel parking lots. It’s just not set up for that. I got a kick out of the Jeep tail lights.
I drive a semi coast to coast, I also own a grand design imagine pulled with a 2018 2500 ram, I think this video came up because just today I was telling my wife this exact thing, I want to buy a KW extended put a jeep on it and pull a crazy big fifth wheel rv
I used to drove a 2015 Volvo VNL780 in both tandem and single axle. The single axle much better fuel economy than the tandem and turning radius. The tandem axle handled the bumps much better. If your under 5’5” I always thought the Volvo drivers seat still sat too high even with the seat in the lowest position. The Volvo trucks are quiet but with most semis over time the interior will start to rattle a lot more.
After 37 years driving a truck without a chargeable accident. I had to go on disability with a bad heart. A person can buy one of those not need any special license and can drive on down the r9ad.I asked the doctor and he said “we regulate for the “what ifs” I said go down to any trucking school and see who has more “What ifs” New hires, one of these guys bombing down the road or a professional driver with 37 years of experience??
Not altogether true, some states require special licensing even if registered as RV … farmers are who I have the issue with, a,ways overweight and they’re not required CDL in my state, not to mention the condition of the majority of their trucks.
Very nice tow rig. Great set up to as a car hauler. He mentioned he has a street rod and I am assuming the camping trailer is a toy hauler too so he can bring the Jeep and car along. I like the Jeep and some money was spent on that too.
Nice rig, This guy must be wealthy if he can afford all the over-length state permits that he plans on touring and camping in. 81 feet combined length well exceeds the maximum combined RV and tow vehicle length of 65". State cops in every state will love telling their families stories about hassling this millionaire playboy. If you got it, flaunt it. Murika!
So the truck owner compares pricing of this rig to a Ram pickup at about $100k. Cool, but how much more $ was the modifications to pull a Jeep and a 44ft. 5th wheel?
Another individual that doesn't know the difference between an auto shifter and a automatic transmission. automatic transmissions only come in six speeds. Auto shifters come anywhere between 8,10.12.16,18 speed. I really wish these people would learn stuff before they lie to the individual out there about these trucks you can definitely tell that these little rich guys and they're cool big toys don't know their ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to their vehicle
🇬🇧 That is one fantastic truck. As a retired truck driver just one thing worried me. No grease on that tiny fifth wheel. They seem to have thought of everything. 👍👍👍👍👍
Nice. Big truck, big RV, big toys, big headache, big maintenance, big expenses (unless you have a golden parachute from the corporate job or sold your multi-billion dollars business).
It doesn't have a roll bar false. The only sleeper that has the safest sleep is kenworth. There is 4 across the roof o in the volvo. There is more flaws with a volvo. 46 yrs of over the road w900l 354 wb 156 in sleep 625 cat w 18 spd manual. 6.5 to 12.2 fuel mpg 53 ft trl. Enjoy the ride
We have had 5th wheels, but never a hauler like that! The ironic thing too is I drove "specialized" tractor/trailer part time. The specialized is "heavy/wide/long (oversize loads), some dangerous cargo, 2- driver for moving 24/7 w/escort. Driving this rig would be a joy!! Love the Jeep idea!! Not so sure about the low/back pin, but if it works for you, great!! Very nice unit!! Congrats!! 8) --gary
I’d would get off the truck at the next terminal. Her only job is to teach drivers. No question is a dumb question. I trained 32 men and women over the course of six years. I’ve been asked every question you could possibly imagine no question is a dumb question.
Love the rig. Would like to know where you got the headlights from. What brand they are? We are doing something simalar to this with a 2015 VNL430 DD 16 / I Shift,
Looks awesome, but with all those upgrades i bet he could have bought 2 brand new pickups over 100k.. but then he wouldn't have such a nice truck. Minus having to find campgrounds that he will fit in, it's got to be more comfortable to drive than a pickup
Not in the state of Florida- but it's recommended to take a class if you don't have any big truck experience. I know I would if I decided to buy one of these.
I have my class A CDL and if I were to get a camper/RV it will be a class 8 truck. I like freight shakers myself but this Volvo is extremely nice. I agree with him on getting a semi over a HD pickup.
