Serving the people isn't supposed to make you rich. It is supposed to be a privilege and honor.

Unbelievable. Thank you to Sen. Whitehouse for his persistence. I think part of the problem is that when our system was set up, our culture was based on a positive outlook. People were counted on to strive to "do the right thing", and the concept of "evil" we have allowed to permiate our world didn't exist back then, at least not in the way it does now. Our supreme court justices were counted on to be pillars of our society with a profoundly comprehensive grasp of the law and the fortitude and character to be able to carry it out. Unfortunately, our world, culture and methods of operandi have declined, and the character of some to go along with it. It won't add up in our supreme court. It’s no wonder Thomas barely spoke a word in the court FOR YEARS. He was probably never adequately prepared, having been living the high life all this time.
