The Senate has asked Crow to provide a list of all money he's spent that is connected to the Thomas's. That should be a start. Congress can request any individual's tax returns from the IRS. It'd be interesting to see the entries Crow used in money for paying Ginni and for the purchase and the upkeep of Thomas's mother's property.

The Republicans have a firm hand on accountability mechanisms in both houses. With a Republican administration and a Republican controlled Supreme Court, there is a lock on accountability. They have defeated checks and balance mechanisms. If voters want change, we have to start with Congress and use Impeachment as the accountability mechanism and reform Ethics cmtes to enact accountability within each house, then the Executive and judicial branches of the Federal government. Let's remind ourselves, it took decades to reach this impasse. Strategic planning and patient execution will be needed to return full accountability.

If you're referencing the supreme court, specifically Thomas, the DOJ needs to be investigating Thomas for not disclosing what appears to be countless items. Congress needs to get the Thomas's and all of Crow's tax returns to see if and how the monies between them were declared on their personal and corporate taxes.

This investigation needs to be broadened to all of the justices. There are numerous advantages to one committee investigating. First it tells the country that this is important. Second the results will be public. Third it consolidates the effort, so they can better chart the course they need to go in.

Even if that were true, Thomas still has to disclose income his wife receives from ANY source. In addition, Thomas did disclose one trip early on Crow's plane, but no more. Indicating he was aware he needed to include them on his disclosure forms. Also, Thomas did claim the $5k a friend gave towards his nephew's tuition, but he didn't disclose what Crow paid towards the tuition. Again, an indication Thomas knew the tuition payments should've been disclosed. Unfortunately, I think we'll see Garland resign before he'd ever hold Clarence criminally liable.

Members of the Supreme Court are not judges. They are "JUSTICES." That linguistic distinction is what makes them members of the highest Court in the land and what makes all other federal courts (along with the judges in those courts) "INFERIOR" to SCOTUS as specifically referenced in the language of Article III of the Constitution. The issue is NOT that the Supreme Court is "above the law." It's that there is no other law or legal process ABOVE the Supreme Court.

The DOJ is intimately familiar with that law and the evidentiary requirements for its prosecution. NOTHING in the statutory language of Sec. 201 exempts Supreme Court justices from prosecution under that statute. Most importantly, your personal "impression" of what does or doesn't constitute criminal BRIBERY does not mean squat. If the criminal law experts in DOJ under a Democrat Attorney General thought for one moment they could criminally prosecute a Supreme Court justice, I would think at the very least that an official DOJ investigation would have been launched in that direction. By all appearances, not even THAT has been done. How do you explain that?

First off, gift taxes are paid by gift DONORS NOT gift recipients. This is the biggest thing most people don't understand. As best I can tell, there are two IRS regs at work here. The first is an annual gift allowance you can give per person BEFORE YOU AS THE DONOR incur any gift tax liability. For 2023, that amount is $17,000 or less. So, every year you can give each child $17,000 or less without your being liable for gift tax. Additionally, the LIFETIME allowance of a gift donor (as of 2023) is $12.920 million. Assuming you filed Form 706 every year, the IRS would have used that information to keep a running tab on your progress toward your lifetime allowance. Example: If in a given year you gave a child $20,000, you would have a $3,000 gift tax liability for that year (20,000 - 17,000 = 3,000). But you wouldn't actually pay the tax that year. In fact, you would NEVER pay it unless you exceeded the $12.920 million lifetime allowance. Now I could be wrong about this. I am NOT an accountant. However, both the annual and lifetime gift tax exemptions exist in the amounts I've indicated, and I think that is how they are coordinated. For further info, see IRS publication 525 “Taxable and non-Taxable Income - Gifts and Inheritances” and IRS webpage "What's New -- Estate and Gift Tax."
