Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price is a senator for the Northern Territory.
She was previously a councillor on Alice Springs Town Council and was the Deputy Mayor of Alice Springs.
She is part of the Warlpiri First Nations group.

This speech made me cry. The moment when our new MP mentioned the fact that because we were all born in Australia we are ALL a part of the dreaming hit me hard. The most powerful connection - we are all connected to the land and each other. I’ve followed this remarkable, thoughtful, intelligent woman for a long time, she gives hope for a better future. To do that, she would need to: 1. Switch from the Senate to the House of Reps, 2. Change her party affiliation from CLP/National to Liberal, and 3. Maybe contest a non-NT seat (such as a safe QLD seat) as the Coalition has trouble winning Lower House seats in the Territory. I am not denigrating Jacinta or her accomplishments in any way, I'm just saying it would be difficult for her to become PM under current circumstances. But then again, she's been counted out before...

@@TimmyTickle "Theoretically" a senator could be a PM. There is nothing set in stone about it. Gorton was PM in the Senate for a short time. Although he did transfer to the Lower House after a short time.

Have waited for this women to come and represent us in parliament. She spoke with fire, compassion and common sense. No platitudes just straight out truth. We need all our representatives to listen to the people, maybe They should all start to take notice. This lady is our way forward, please people open your eyes and heart to her and her words. I am in total awe of this wonderful, wonderful woman who has made more sense in this maiden speech than perhaps any other. Inspirational, logical, emotional, brave - and the list goes on. Perhaps our country does have a chance after all. Let's get rid of the dead wood ie: 90% of the other politicians.

OMG Thank you Jacinta it is what it is. I’m so proud of you to represent me as an Australian. You bring tears to my eyes to here truth and stand up to where we have all come from. You are a true Australian and I stand with you. We can’t change the past but we can certainly stand together and change the future. This pandemic is not just an aboriginal problem it’s Australia wide no matter race. When will a government have the balls to scrap PAYG, increase GST to 20% on everything and make the banks actually work for our money by handing over everyday. Welcome to Australian Parliament your presence is so long over due. Your parents will be amazingly proud as am I.

The trouble with increasing the GST by a blunt 20% is that the more well-off don't notice but it would bite into affordability of essentials for the less well off. Product codes could deal with a more equitable way with by increasing GST a lot for things duch as cigarettes, alchohol, and high end products such as luxury cars and other luxury goods.

Outstanding speech. Quite simply one of the best I have ever heard. Senator Price really does tell it like it is and doesn't mince her words. Brilliant maiden speech in Canberra by Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price. I can’t recall an Australian politician so eloquently articulating traditional conservative values and ideals. A terrific speech from a great patriot. Hopefully she can turn the Liberals back into a real party, rather then the Labor lite version that they currently are.

Jacinta deserves Australian of the year with that speech alone, for the courage, honesty and heart she showed, like a real Australian(not many around these days) She has to be the only honest MP in Parliament, the fact she represents our Indigenous community is a blessing for all of us as she is one of the few who will ever bridge the gap! Enough virtue signaling and blaming systemic racism of the past, Jacinta has excelled in making us realize there is a better future for all of us and it doesn't have to be divisive like the Labor Party wants us all to be.

The comparison between this Lady and the pretender, Lydia Thorpe, is real, pronounced and worthy of our attention. This Lady will provide some realism in the way we see our problems in our indigenous communities, instead of making it all, simply, something to protest, hate and divide over. This is one speech that, honestly, rekindled pride in country and bought a tear of hope to my eyes! Well done this Lady!! BTW, I didn't notice Lydia Thorpe in the throngs of congratulatory greetings at the end! LOL,,,
