I think there are better responses to formulate in these hypothetical discussions, for the most part. I thought of a few to add: -Since when is looking like a girl a bad thing? Androgyny is considered to be a positive thing in Korea - perhaps one should follow their example and embrace some more diverse beauty standards. Besides, compare how different male idols can look from concept to concept - and indeed, how female idols can rock all kinds of style as well. -Autotune is not particularly common in pop music in general these days (kpop is always utilising trends in music - autotune's 2009-11 heyday, EDM through to brostep in 2012-14, UK Garage and dreampop in 2015-16, tropical and future house in 2017-18, and trap in 2019, just to name a few) though it has seen something of a resurgence recently - but it has never been used in kpop for pitch correction, rather for the aesthetic qualities it gives a voice. When a concept is particularly futuristic or the song's content is referencing the robotic image people are expected to have, autotune is thematically appropriate. There are plenty of songs from all sorts of genres within kpop that do not use autotune at all; not just ballads. -Meaning within a song is at its most stupid to the listener's interpretation. There are plenty of kpop songs with meanings that Western music seldom if ever deals with, just as there are songs in Western pop that engage with ideas and have meanings that would be extremely unusual in a kpop song. There are also songs that are just for fun, songs with silly meanings, and songs that are intended to be taken as jokes. The same can be said for Western music as well; though a lot of the time there, songs with silly meanings are far less self-aware. (I don't actually think anyone among the uninitiated would maintain that idols are untalented after even a few seconds of learning about kpop; if anything, criticisms about the extremely gruelling training and harsh working conditions/social environments would be far more common a criticism than their talent being called into question). (Here, I don't think it's generalising as saseng fans - the uninitiated would probably be surprised to learn about sasengs and how the rest of the kpop community view them too). -The loudest (in terms of their prolific output on social media and the manner in which they conduct themselves/their discussions) fans are always the most obnoxious. The largest fandom will by nature have the largest minority of those loud fans, which therefore leads to easier generalising of the fandom as a whole, and so on. It's fairly straightforward to understand that, just with any fan culture, the majority are just normal people from all walks of life who have a love/passion for pop music in Korea. (And yeah, anyone using 'gay' as an insult isn't making a point worth engaging with).

I agree with you and I want to bring my thoughts too~ : What you said in the "You don't even understand what they're saying" part is true and even more accurate in foreign countries. I'm french and, in France, amercian musics are more popular than the french ones. But let's be honest, the majority of the listeners doesn't understand the lyrics either... and there's still french antis who say "you don't understand their language" ! Plus looking like a girl isn't supposed to be a bad thing, and actually it really is a binary way of thinking. If the music is good, if the singer is talented, why would you not listen to it because of some physical criteria ? To me it is as logical as "I don't listen to [insert an singer name]'s music because he's blond." ...So what ? I agree so much, being gay is NOT wrong and it shouldn't be an insult. Saying that "Kpop is gay" also means that all gay persons look/act the same but it's not true... It is really sad to keep hearing that kind of stuff in 2020. Actually I think that while you can change someone's mind about language, autotone or untalented idols (just like you wrote), it might be difficult with people who say that "they look like girls" or that "kpop is gay" because it is more a society problem than a prejudice. (if this sentence makes any sense... tell me if I'm being unclear)

Woah! You guys added a lot! I didn't even know androgyny was seen as good in Korea. I also know that there are more genres than just ballads that don't use autotune, I just used that as an example. Also, when I said that all Western songs seem to have stupid meanings, that's just what I noticed when listening to most of the songs put out nowadays. Earlier Western songs had more meaning than the songs of today. That's all I'm going to say right now, because I am tired.

Me too I was a kpop hater(mostly BTS) but only because my classmate always talked about them and I was so tired to see them everywhere lol. So I judged them only by their appearance but when I decided to know more about them (like the names because I thought they were such weird lol) I started listening to their music and I felt so stupid because I wish I knew them before so yes now I literally can't live without kpop! I don't know why but it makes me feel emotions I've never felt before. It makes me cry,it makes me happy,it makes me nostalgic,it makes me dance and more.....maybe the only negative thing is that since I started listening to kpop I don't talk anymore with my family.... I think they just don't understand the way kpop makes me feel it's like a safe place when I need it the most.

They just have a different vocal timbre to most singers. Most kpop vocalists have a tighter sound that I heard a vocal coach call "bellyachy" but not in a negative way. Blackpink has a more open, breathy sound that you hear more in american pop. Stability isn't everything and their method of singing lowers stability. They still have a really rich vocal color, and I've heard vocal coaches who have listened to them praising their vocals. I'm no coach myself but I trust the word and explanations of the professionals. Hope I didn't come off too obnoxious or defensive lol
