My son went to boarding school. I'm a govt.worker, posted outside home state, husband too working far from home. We come home on weekends. No one to coordinate child. The fear of losing him to the street brought about taking him to boarding school. It really helped to shape him. I'm proud of the man he grow up to be. He is married now with kids.

I understand you Akanni and was in the same position until I visited a few boarding houses in UK and I experienced a mind shift. I would suggest that you visit a few first with open mind. Bryan is still quite young so you still have a bit of time to research and decide. I went to a boarding house in Nigeria (which was horrible, to say the least). You cannot compare that to the UK at all - they are very very different! Simply put - UK boarding is amazing! From pastoral care, to scheduling their time, everything! Yes, it's expensive but you can get funding if your child is academic and also good with sports, music or drama. Lots of benefit to boarding - and from what I understand, its even more hands on than Nigeria - if they start boarding at Year 7, they come home every 3 weeks and not till half term or end of term. The kids participate/exposed to a lot of extra curricular activities and you are invited to attend when they have events. You see your child more often than you expect. I have a friend, whose child is in boarding and she sees him twice a week. Apart from this, your child will meet with other children from across England and even international students, which helps building their resilience and also expanding their knowledge of other cultures. They also build/expand their network of friends of which you know plays a part in their life later. The benefits definitely outweighs the risk, in my opinion. That being said, it also depends on the child too. You know your child better than anyone else. I would say be open minded, visit a few, before you make your final decision 😊 which of course should be in the best interest of your child. Goodluck.

Weekly boarding might be the perfect balance - kids are away during the week and come home on weekends. I went to two boarding schools in the UK (all-girls and mixed) and absolutely loved my time and experience. It helps to build certain life skills (independence; decision-making; social etc)… particularly if both parents work full time and don’t see much of their kids during the week anyway. Having said that, I have a two year old of my own now and can’t imagine sending him away full time lol. Perfect scenario is for weekly boarding, perhaps one term a year. Btw, love your channel!! Your conversations feel honest with lots of food for thought!

Kids will always set you back, in the abroad you have to plan around them. During summer, take holidays or plan holiday activities that clubs if you don't want to lose them to the streets.

I went to marine boarding school in bayeku ikorodu. It was hell for me, I'm still traumatised today from what I went through. The abuse and beating was on another level.. Raise your kids yourself, I won't even recommend sending your kids to family members in Nigeria... Just my opinion

Please keep your kids at home. I went to boarding school for 6 years and I don’t recommend it. Especially with the ongoing “agenda “ in the west
