Senior reacts to Ghost "Kaiserion" (Episode 119) 

I must say i really like this whole video not only the reaction. Tobias is a very clever man and to do some background check before listening was very smart. Many people just listen to the song and say if they like it or not but here we get the whole story. Nicely done sir. The song is co written with another one of Sweden:s best songwriters Joakim Berg. His band "Kent" never made it out to the big scenes of Europe or USA but was very very popular here in Sweden. Thank you for the credit. If you want to continue on the path of Tobias musical journey Ghost just released "Spillways" as a single and the music video is very good. I highly recommend a listen.

I mention this whenever someone does an album reaction to this song (since this is the album version that someone has put live video to), and that is that at the end of the song he says, "Goes straight to... hell!" but on the album he never does. Anyway, do more Ghost. I think you'll like a lot of their stuff. Every album is a bit different. They started as doom metal & slowly progressed their sound into more pop metal.

Fantastic review, sir. Thank you for this. Ghost is really my favorite band, but so few people analyze the lyrics of this song. One of the lines that really strikes to me is "The truth of candor shown through a prism of deceit." It speaks to me of how some twist the truth of a thing to make it fit their own propaganda.

Ghost react, and ancient history lesson lyric analasys? I bow to the emperor of youtube reactions. And if I had a time machine and one trip I would absolutely go back and save books from the library before the flames were lit. I learned about that as a kid and still haven't gotten over it, the loss of literature in that event which should have come to us is staggering.

Love this reaction. I appreciate how you went deeper and did research. As someone else pointed out, most just listen without paying attention to the lyrics and pass judgement. Tobias is intelligent and it's very evident in his lyrics.

I loved your analysis of the lyrics. You should definitely listen to some of their other best songs, particularly Cirice (pronounced Sir-Rees), Square Hammer, and Rats (which has a fantastic music video) I just found your channel a few days ago, and I'm loving your content so far.

i agree, 'accessible' is a perfect word to sum up modern ghost. especially in comparison to their earlier work. (also "ever so slightly metal" 😆)

Spillways is another very well written song off of this album, you should give it a listen! Also, if you're ever interested in your own time, listening to the album in full in order is quite an experience. The opening song, Imperium, flows into Kaisarion very nicely, along with Dominion into Twenties and Bite of Passage into Respite on the Spitalfields. I saw them live in January (days before Impera was announced) and they gave one of the best shows I've ever been to! I'm so glad you enjoyed!

At the core, the band is a piece of performance art, with intent and a message behind it that they are putting out into the world. As people hear it, and dig into the lyrics, some of that intent becomes clear. As they've continued to do well, they've gone towards accessibility to continue to grow their reach, and as you mentioned the latest album has much more of a stadium rock feel to maximize that. They do have way heavier more typical metal stuff in droves in their back catalogue, and I've heard the next album may go in that direction, I think the shifts in part help prevent creative boredom as well as expanding the audience to get the message out. One of the few bands that seem to have their artistic integrity still intact. For heavier stuff, check out Con Clavi Con Dio, Prime Mover, Per Aspera Ad Inferi, or live performances of Mummy Dust. The chorus in the studio version of Mummy Dust is a little iffy, when I saw them do it live it's a different experience, the scandanavian black metal roots are definitely showing through in performances.

Im pleasantly surprised at your opinions and observations. Yes accessible is a good way to describe Tobia’s vocals..maybe some of that will seep subliminal!y in some peoples woke minds? As a musician having worked with everyone from Neil Young to Shinedown…to movie soundtracks…I can testify to just how musically adept Ghost are in their playing. I have become a huge fan over the past few years. And now I shall continue to follow this channel with appreciation .

I see you really put effort to some research. I like it! If you ever willing to do more Ghost, I would suggest Respite On The Spitalfields. Its more like a ballad with really interesting vocals and the lyrics also got some incredible lore inside. Anyway, Im sorry for my bad English.

Ghost has a lot of variety in their sound. If you'd like some stuff from them that's a little heavier and much more in line with normal metal standards: Cirice Year Zero Twenties (off the same album as Kaiserion & Call Me Sunshine) On the flip side, if you want something that sounds like it was inspired by a Christian hymn: He Is Really a fantastic band all around. Kind of crazy that they're able to keep a feel where you know when you're listening to a Ghost song, but at the same time, they can capture so many different sounds.

The guitar solo with the drums was very reminiscent of RUSH. Love the band.

Apart from the hard rock and metal elements, Ghost also brings to thd table a diverse mix of influences from ABBA to classic rock (Kansas especially) and prog rock. I'm really resisting the urge to write a whole essay on Ghost, I really love this band and I'm happy you also enjoy them. I'm trying to keep this comment shorter but if you want, I can go more in-depth, I'm mostly just going to go into albums and songs but if you ask, I will gladly go into the lore and greater detail. Their current albums are "7 inches of Satanic Panic", "Opus Eponymous", "Infestissumam", "Meliora", "Prequelle" and "Impera", some songs I would recommend are the two from the first one, "Mary on a Cross" and "Kiss the go-goat", the songs "Ritual" and "Con Clavi Con Dio" from the second album. From the 3rd album, the songs “Body and Blood”, “Year Zero” and, Monstrance Clock”, the 4th album, id recommend "Cirice" and "Mummy Dust". 5th album, the songs “Rats”, “Life Eternal” and, “Dance Macabre” and finally, in the last album, "Spillways" and "Darkness at the heart of my love". Sorry for the really long comment, I just really like Ghost and I will give myself every excuse to talk about this band that the genius behind it.

Tobias grew up with his mom's record collection, which the other teens in the Swedish black metal scene would make fun of if they knew he listened to them. Ghost is his way of really making anything he wants with all of his influences: ABBA, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Rush, Kansas, Toto, Boston, etc.

Kaiserion is probably an embellishment of the word kaiserin, which is the feminine form of the German word for emperor - Kaiser. My interpretation of the sentiment of the song is dealing with the subordination of women by the Catholic faith.

You should look into their older music as well. The songs had a more dark tone and vibe to them. The newer albums are all arena rock.
