The Sennheiser AVX-MKE2 is a new wireless mic kit, designed to let you easily connect a mic into a camera. It’s license-free, and self-configuring, and looks to be very easy to set up and use. And of course it promises the Sennheiser sound quality.
Since I now have one, I ran some tests, and I’ve come up with some results which might be useful to anyone looking into one of these. I’m coming at this as a low-budget video shooter, not a serious sound person; so let me tell you how this system looks from that point of view.

Another great in-depth dive into these wireless systems ! Really appreciate the extra info you have in your videos ! I have the previous generation of Sennheisers , had to constantly scan frequencies at every different location, that got a bit much , and when I got it wrong a few times at wedding, that wasn’t fun 😭 on another note I noticed Marathon on your shirt , just spent 3 years living there, it’s a special place 🤗👍

wait a second…the receiver doesnt use phantom power but only turns on and off? Are you sure of that?! i have spent almost 1K for this feature only. The MKE2 is on its way to me right now.

I'm afraid I'm quite sure. I think phantom power just isn't enough to power the receiver. Having said that, battery life on the receiver hasn't been a problem for me; and don't forget that the battery is removable, so you can have a spare, and you can power it over USB.

The reason, that the AVX system uses microUSB and not USB-C is, that it was introduced in 2015. It's not a new system. USB-C was introduced in 2014, but the first devices using USB-C weren't around until 2016. Retooling would probably not be worth it for Sennheiser, depending on how many units they sell.
