I bought this system & used it at 2 conferences. Each around an hour & 40 min long. These lavs are amazing! Flawless sound! No distortion. I love these lavs! Just ordered another set. Lav & mic set.

When working, this is a nice outfit. I purchased the the Lav outfit with the MKE2 mic. This lasted just one job and then the mic stopped working. It was replaced by Sennheiser. Then I purchased the handheld mic. Unfortunately this had a distinct buzz which was quite visible as a series of horizontal bands in the spectral view of the sound. It also was distorted when I recorded a soprano at about half a metre. The testing was done side by side using an AKG 414 mic and the Lav mic. The dealer took the handheld mic back and has sent it to Sennheiser for checking. After three weeks, no reply. The dealer returned my money as he had heard of these faults with the handheld mic elsewhere. I'm pleased still with the Lav outfit, but quality control appears to be an issue - so buyer beware.

Great video Colin. This helps with deciding on the older Sennheiser G3 or the new AVX system. Although I'm curious if this unit can pair two transmitters, let's say for an interview with two people. Any feedback helps!

You can only use one transmitter per receiver at a time, but this is a limitation of pretty much every wireless system. That said, you can certainly use multiple transmitter/receiver pairs simultaneously, if memory serves AVX supports up to 8 systems in use at the same time.

The information in the manual isn't correct says Sennheiser. They say you CAN'T get a line-level input into the transmitter. Also the transmitter says "Mic/Line" but that isn't correct, for almost 5 years now.....

Why not do an actual sound test without background music? For example plug the system in into a decent recorder like a zoom, go to a quiet room, speak some sentences and don't forget to have a pauze moment or two to hear the noise floor of this thing.

I managed the pairing and the green light is consistent with both receivers and both transmitters. I set my Canon C100 MKII to ext mic. However, the mic on the first transmitter is recording and the second second mic on the second transmitter is not recording on the Camera? Is there something in the camera settings that I am missing?

Really useful, thanks. So no problems having more than one system on the go at the same time? Often need two lavaliers with two receivers into two XLRs. And do you know if the COS 11 lavaliers will work (they work fine with my G3s, but thinking of upgrading. Thanks again for the vid - answered loads of questions with zero guff! Olly

Yep, multiple AVX systems can work together simultaneously. And if your current lavs work with the G3 series, they should be just fine.

Absolutely. The Rode kit is solid, but AVX is a tier above. The AVX bodypack transmitter is tiny compared to Rode's as well. If you're on a budget, though, I think Audio-Technica's System 10 is also worth a look.

+mykie242 Retail for the single-transmitter kits (like the lavalier/bodypack kit) is about $900. It's not meant to replace the G3 series, but be the next step up from it.

I don't think it is a step up from G3 as they are a different system for different purpose. On G3 you are able to choose frequency and do either an open or close mic setup. This is useful as you can choose the amount of ambiance sound to capture. But for AVX you can't.

Hi Colin! This is quite informative video about AVX. Right now, I am using Sennheiser G3 Wireless mic. G3 has one great problem with DSLR or Entry Level Camcorder (with 3.5 mm stereo jack), and you can have keep the preamp of camera quiet by turning audio to manual and bringing all the way to zero and one point or notch up. When I don't use G3 in this manner, there is lot of his or noise in audio when I am not talking. Consdering that I will be using same camera with AVX, will there be same problem. I want to ask... If I raise the level of audio of camera to 1/2 or 2/3 or 3/4, will camera's preamp work and distort the recorded sound? Regards, Dr. Vikram Aditya Tomar

The best advice I can offer is to keep your camera’s preamp at a lower level, and raise the output of the wireless receiver accordingly. You’ll get less noise from the camera’s preamp this way. As for distortion, the built-in audio level limiting in the AVX system should help to keep brief peaks from being too loud. Good luck!

I've used the system and the audio quality is amazing. HOWEVER, it is Certainly Over Priced by at least! $400 U.S. NOW if Sennheiser execs come into the 21 Century and produce a Duel Channel system of the SAME aduio quality for around $600 U.S., Like Saramonic did, i can promise! you, They WON'T be able to keep up with the demand.... GUARANTEED.

How many feet can receiver go from camera?

It's going to depend on your environment, but the average is about 150 feet, less if the signal isn't line-of-sight.
