This review has helped me make a decision on buying these since my Backbeat Pros right ear cushion had ripped off. I think these are an excellent upgrade from not using new headphones for about 5 years.
I just bought a pair of these, but unfortunately I think I'll have to send it back. They just really don't work for me. Lots of 100Hz boominess, lots of ~300Hz mudd, a very distinct lack of around 2K and it lacks a lot of spark in the top-end spectrum to my ears. Maybe my ears are faulty but my other headphones don't sound this muddy.
Interesting. They are a little smiley faced EQ-wise, I agree. If you want bright top end the Adam Audio SP5s are very toppy, or the Austrian Audio Hi-X55s have incredible top end detail (although I think they sound like you're in a swimming pool!)
These, or the senheiser HD8 DJs? And why? I currently own a pair of hd 25s, but I want a pair that feels sturdy and is more durable, but flexible for DJing.
The HD8 DJs look great. I haven’t heard them but they’re designed to be very loud and at the price point they’re likely to be better than the 25s. The 300Pros are great but I think the 8DJd will be louder because of their lower impedance.
Theoretically they cover that frequency range... practically, they don’t. The Austrian Audio Hi-X55s go lower and higher: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tbTDHatvA88.html
I can tell you without a doubt these are not FLAT for monitoring. I am pumping some of the bass-heaviest dance tracks through an Audient ID14 MKII full powered and the highs overtake the lows big time. The bass on these songs I listen to everywhere else I usually need to turn the bass down, but here its STILL not enough. I think the issue here is the actual speakers are too deep into the headset and not close enough to the ear. It's a shame because the mids and highs sound terrific, but the low-end is almost non-existent, especially on songs that are not in the dance genre.
I mix and produce on these alongside my Neumann speakers, they’re lovely headphones for the money. The Beyerdynamic DT770s are also very popular in that budget. Sonarworks will also help flatten out any EQ discrepancies.
@@EdThorne Thanks for the reply, i live in Croatia so if i use Amazon or Sweetwater ill get another 100$ for shipping so i found a local seller and found these (aiaiai.com.au/product/tma-2-studio-preset/). They do this custom headphones thing where you can combine different parts and this is their studio setup. What do you think?
Good question. It depends what you will using them for? The HD300 Pros and Protects are ‘closed back’, which are better for recording because they isolate the sound and minimise click bleed into your microphone. The DT990s are ‘open back’ which are better for mastering because they don’t allow low end to build up in the earcups. The Sennheiser’s are also nearly twice the price which would suggest they’re better quality. Let me know what you decide 😀
Old Beyer models have quite a lot of distortion so they are good to listen at quieter volumes. The newer Sennheiser are supposed to have much lower distortion for clean sound at higher volumes.
You probably don't need a DAC, but they're 64 ohms so you probably want an amp yeah. I used them without an amp for a while, and they were pretty good, but now I've got an amp... and I didn't know what I was missing. You just aren't getting your money's worth with these unless you're using a decent amp that can drive them
@@EdThorne oh my god I just got the pro version, in the manual it shows you how to use the protect, so was confused with what I had! Does your manual also show how the protect works?
@@EdThorne Hd-250 linear I 600ohm... They were a reference while designing hd-300, which is a scam or their engineers should get fired. They are NOTHING a like. Even my old Hd40 destroy every idea of these... Sennheiser is evil corporation, same as all big ones and deserve to get called out, sadly, most of the people are evil in soul as well, so they will make positive reviews for bucks and mislead sheep into feeding the beast, but most are ignorant to a good sound and egoistic enough to claim something is good enough to them, therefore its existance is justified. These people even deserve such crap products, but again... Should be called out for the meek, who deserve the best and are willing to follow the unpopular opinion and evoid mass deception (: Hope that helps
@@frog382 dude are you ok? why do you hate sennheiser so much? all corporations are "evil" at the end of the day (although I don't like that word because it feels a little essentialist, but whatever), the people at the top profit from the labour of those at the bottom, but like. all corporations are like this (except for worker coops, which are growing, but at the moment are few and far between) Why hate sennheiser specifically? you're clearly so biased against them and it's just weird. There's no way to consume ethically in our society, your best bet is to just not care, buy what you like, and engage politically to try to change things and make the world a better place if you actually care about that stuff
