Welcome to Sensible Secondhand Reviews, the series where we usually take a sensible secondhand car worth between £1000 and £5000 and put it through its paces in a very straightforward manner! This time, we test a 2013 Volkswagen Scirocco 2.0 TSI GT DSG, the final generation of this illustrious nameplate, and rather enjoy ourselves..
Be prepared for a return to the roots of the channel, a rather unusual interior, the largest boot lip ever and very little of any consequence at all. Nothing untoward, then!

I remember seeing the IROC concept at the Paris MS in 2010 and just being very pleased to see the Scirocco back in production. Ignoring the diesels which seemed so out of place in any coupe the best of the petrols must be the R version which is a very appealing hot coupe/hatch.. and yes I love that interior too!

Sir, we can't discuss those forbidden fuel Sciroccos anyway, so we indeed discuss the marvellous interior, which was most interesting in this one.

One of the better Volkswagens of recent times . I like its stance and the caramel coloured seats rest of the interior too dark . Thanks Joseph.

Nice review! This Scirocco would perhaps suit me. I tend to prefer a 'grand tourer' style of car and I would prefer an automatic gearbox over a manual. It also has a black headlining that the Audi A1 tested 2 months ago also has. I quite like the seats. They have an aura of Italian supercar about them.

Yes, that headlining makes it really dark inside, which the owner and I both agreed was not our favourite, especially as the rear has such small windows. I think the car looks great, and it drives very well, but it is perhaps a bit too compromised in terms of practicality for me. Thank you for watching, sir!

I have a 2009 2.0TSi GT, black Vienna leather, pan roof etc and although I'm currently having turbo issues at 110,000 I'm probably going to keep it. The 2.0 petrol and the R are very rare in Ireland. Absolutely cracking car to drive, I reckon they will hold a decent value as potential future classics.

Thank you ever so much indeed for watching! Yes, I was very blessed to have been offered one of these for review in this sort of condition. I was surprised to hear that the 2.0 engines do seem to be relatively rare for this age of Scirocco. I hope that you are able to get your car fixed.

Another interesting review. I was wondering how you would fit in the rear seat! At 6'4", I always have a headroom issue and the Scirocco has always struck me as a low car.

It's a very low car indeed, I don't think it would particularly suit me, but Richard, who owns it, seems to really like it.

They had quite a long production run, which I found quite interesting... I see some at shows, but not too many generally available, I think.

GirlF had one 4 years. A very good if meh Vehicle. Small boot. Drive Golf like. Just meh. I think they look excellent. Always have. Wouldn’t make me want one. Mind

Yes, a very nice design, although I kept banging my head getting in and out, which is the sign of a car which isn't quite practical enough for me. Very pleasant to drive indeed.
