In the 2021/22 season, Boston Celtics pulled off a remarkable turnaround. At one point they were 17-and-19, but by the end of the season they were in the NBA Finals, losing to the Golden State Warriors.
If the Celtics want to go one further in the upcoming season who could they bring in to give them the edge? Ryan Baldi looks at some sensible picks.

Hindsight is always 20,20 but what kind of stupid idea is it to break up Tatum and Brown? Two became starts together and had no problem with each other while they became stars. This definitly shows the two can play together and the team should seek options other than splitting the two unless there is chemistry issue.

Celtics fans here. McDermott? Really? I don’t see how he could be a real boost to Boston. Also, I recommend you guys polish up the stats you use for players-perhaps ditching pure FG% for EFG or TS-for instance. Love your work and hope this basketball channel blows up.

Just pure waffle at 5:20 i’m afraid Marcus Smart, R. Williams, and Horford are all NOT big for their positions. at 6’3 is average for a PG, 6’8 is pretty small for a Center and 6’9 is average for a PF. And that’s just the starters, don’t get me started on Grant Williams and Daniel Theis.

Very cool. Nice to see that you are extending your Tifo-sports catalogue - On the basketball/Celtics-note: Bill Russell passed away today. A LEGEND of the game who made his name in basketball at a time when political and civil rights were denied to african-americans. He played in front of genuinely hostile and venemous crowds and he excelled in spite of this. He MADE the Celtics and was a true beacon in the world of sports and in the african-american fight for civil rights during that time. It would be really special if you guys made a thorough video on him. Keep it up all the same!

Boston Celtics are led by 2, top quality two-way wings. Now in today's game, it's unorthadox not to have one of your stars as the primary ball handler. Neither Tatum nor Jaylen are up for this task. Although I believe Tatum can reach the level of Kawhi in terms of playmaking, that's still not good enough to be primary. So now, they suffer the same issue the Clippers has been suffering. It's not like the 2000's anymore, it's very difficult to get a quality playmaker from a bargain. Brogdon was a solid move indeed, now we have to wait and see if he can fill that role for a championship contender. If he can't, the Celtics should start looking to find one with the expense of Jaylen Brown.

Tatum is already as good or better a passer as Kawhi, they now have Brogdon, and you're not gonna get equal value trading Brown, unless for a 34 year old ofc.

@@Cotswolds1913 I don't agree with that. Kawhi really did become a competent playmaker in LA and I don't think Tatum is at that level yet. But Kawhi isn't good enough to be the primary ball handler either. Secondary, sure. Tatum can act as a secondary playmaker as well. But your primary playmaker really makes the difference in today's league. I like Brogdon and I loved that move from Boston. Is he the man to run the offense in a championship team though? We'll see; but if not, JB might need to be moved even without the KD trade.

@@gunmuratilban8667 Well the data agrees with that. Brogdon isn't gonna be asked to run the offense, he's a value-added playmaker, not a primary for a team.

@@Cotswolds1913 What data agrees with that exactly? The one where he turned the ball over 100 times in the Playoffs? Also stats are always unreliable to show a player's playmaking skills as it is a creative element of the game. The most basic stat for playmaking is assist numbers, right? Russell Westbrook averaged over 10 assists 5 times in his career. But the man has always been a terrible playmaker, bad decision maker. He limits the ways his teams can run offense. Curry never had high assist numbers but he's arguably the greatest playmaker of all time. Even when he's not touching the ball, he's making plays, helping his team make plays. This is not something you can show with stats.

I think they should have signed TJ Warren instead of Gallinari. Hes significantly better defensively than Gallinari, he shoots much more efficiently and hes much better at switching. He came off an injury season, but signed for 1 year at the mid-level, which is exactly what Gallinari (Gallo got 2 years though) I think TJ would have been a significantly better option, but maybe Warren wanted to go to a place where he could earn more mins and touches. Regardless though, he would have been a lot better than Gallinari in my opinion, and for the same money. The questions Gallinari poses on defense are a big reason why Id have prefered Warren and with Warren I think I could have significantly more confidence in them being back in the Finals again. Still think theyre a top 2 seed without him, but well see I guess.

There's not really an easy way to match the 13 million that Doug does. We lost our 17 million dollar TPE already and let's not forget that whoever we bring, it'll cost ownership 3 times his salary due to the luxury tax. I think we only need a third big, but between Kagenbele (hope it's right), Vonleh or Caboclo we have a third guy, who's decent and cost controlled
