Dear Dr. Dray, I have been going to dermatologists for over 30 years and have struggled to get help for my various skin problems. I have felt very disheartened most of the time. But after finding you here on RU-vid, I have decided that I perhaps have just had some bad luck.... You have restored my faith in the dermatology profession, and I am so impressed with your willingness to share information freely and your kindness to everyone. Not to mention, your blogs really make me smile!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart=)

Linda Bilsbury never stop believing hunny, go to reneerouleau.com and answer questions honestly with the skin type test you will find your skin type and find results asap, start with essentials cleanser, toner, moisturizer, with before your makeup and maybe a potential spf depending on your complexion and environmental area plus a nighttime product and maybe a spot treatment if you dont have one already. Take care learn from expierience and knowledge of your skin type vs what others may tell you as everyones skin is different

I feel like there's no youtuber that has dry, sensitive and acne prone skin and that's what I have. So I'm always unsure which products to actually get because is the acne prone skincare good enough for sensitive skin and will it not dry out my skin because they tend to associate acne prone skin to be oily. I'm seeing improvements now but I haven't seen something cater specifically for me at a decent price range as well. Skincare for all skin types tend to be expensive.

feryal mohamed Not OP, but yes!! Vanicream products are amazing!! I have super sensitive/combo/dry skin that gets irritated whenever I put something with fragrance on my face and Vanicream has helped me a lot with my skin!! I luckily don’t have acne so I can’t really tell you how it would work on that end, but it’s a no-nonsense brand that is pretty gentle on various skin types

I just wanted to thank you so, so much for bringing Vanicream products to light in my life. They have absolutely saved my skin. I suddenly started struggling with these terrible, annoying recurrent papules that I believe were some sort reaction, as my skin was also excessively red and dry. After cutting everything out and simply using the face wash and their cream that comes in that tub with a pump, the irritation seems to have went away after a week or two. They're absolutely fabulous and have been massively helpful in helping me to regain just a bit of self esteem.

Dr. Dray, I have Rosacea. I started using your recommendations of products you like for Rosacea and sensitive skin. By doing so my skin is fabulous. It is so nice that my skin looks better with just Neutrogena hydra Boost, my Elta MD Mineral Sunscreen 40 and then Elta MD Sunscreen 41 tinted. I then put a very lightly finely milled Loose Powder over my face. I am now finding that regular foundation looks thick and very drying on my skin. So thank you so much for all your wonderful informative recommendation of great products.

take glutathione and vitamin C together, it completely gets rid of eczema, i had it in my scalp and as long as I took it i didn't have eczema. so 1000mg of both atleast. Glutathione is the master antioxidant. you can also use dr. bronners peppermint soap it doesn't cure, but its soothing to eczema skin.

I have an Amazonian cart full of Vanicream... seriously a shampoo and conditioner, Lite Lotion, cream pump, small cream tube, sunscreen, deodorant, ointment and lip protectant totals about 100 dollars. I think this is VERY budget-friendly in comparison to the products I currently have. As far as makeup I have no client contact so I rarely wear makeup. I literally just apply sunscreen in the AM before driving to work and then reapply again about 15 minutes before I step out of the office. I have pretty bad acne scarring too so if I can do it... I send good vibes to others that want to do it but feel they aren't quite ready :) Thank you so much for these informative videos :)

Recently, I have been suffering from peeling and sensitive skin because of some irritants in the cerave pm lotion that I don't know of. Thanks to your informative videos, I immediately stopped using it and went to the nearest target to get both the vanicream cleanser and lite lotion, and they work wonders!! Although on amazon people are concerned with the BHT ingredient (antioxidant), for which I did some research on my own. The international journal of toxicology published a paper in 2002 titled "Final report on the safety assessment of BHT (1)" and concluded that "BHT is safe as used in cosmetic formulations". Also, I couldn't help noticing that my skin tone got a little brightened up even with only a few times of using the vanicream lotion. This turns out to be a valid observation as stated in the same paper -- "clinical testing did not find any depigmentation associated with dermal exposure to BHT, although a few case reports of depigmentation were found".

Harsh or gentle... I see it as depending on what your skin can take, and what you may have an allergy to. If you have tough skin that NOTHING ever irritates it, even a course walnut scrub, but are severely allergic to sunflower oil.... guess what? It’s the tiny gentle sunflower oil that will do the most damage at that moment,

I've been struggling with dry/oily sensitive and itchy skin this past week due to weather getting colder and it was driving me insane. I was thinking I would need to buy an expensive cream for my face since most products at the drug store are really fragranced and I'm extremely sensitive to that. After watching this video I went out to buy the Vanicream Lite Lotion and my skin already feels so much better... it's hydrated, the redness in my cheeks is reduced and I'm not feeling overly itchy anymore. I'm really glad I found your video before spending so much money on another expensive product from Sephora.

I found this video and the one with her personal skin care routine 2 weeks ago and the way she explained everything made so much sense to me. I decided to give these products a try and I bought all products mentioned for sensitive skin plus the product with 2% salicylic acid (she uses this in her personal skin care routine) and the Hada Labo gel (also from her personal skin care routine) I've been using these products for a week. Neutrogena ultra gentle hydrating cleanser (creamy) burns my face. Exactly like CeraVe hydrating cleanser. Can you explain why? Also, does this burning necessarily suggest irritation? Because if it’s not bad for my skin I can tough it out and use the product. It’s slightly uncomfortable but I’m able to deal with it since it only burns slightly while cleansing and immediately stops once rinsed.

@DrDrayzday 7 лет назад
hate micellar waters and really think people should stay away from them; we see a lot of skin rashes on the face as a result of micellar waters, as they contain alot of preservatives that, while safe, aren't great left on the skin; i prefer the double cleanse method with either an fragrance free oil or balms, followed by a gentle fragrance free face wash

I purchase cerave moisturizing face wash and moisture cream for 35$ total. My finacé was overwhelmed with the price for two products. Lol I looked at him and said I HAVE ECZEMA, SEVERE ACNE, AND ON RETIN-A! MY SKIN IS WORTH 35$ EVERY THREE MONTHS. He now understands why I have to stay away from scented products and use thick creams to keep my skin hydrated. When I first started Retin A my skin was very dry and flakey. I watched your retinol routine and implemented the aquafor on my eye lids, nostrils, and lips. Such a great tip!!! Thank you Dr. Dre!!! Also I noticed that when I stress my acne flares on my cheeks and temple areas, its crazy. When I'm stressed my skin feels very itchy (I don't scratch my face) and in the morning I will have giant cysts usually about 3 new cysts after a stressful moment... I have been binge watching your videos since a few days and I must say, a heartfelt thank you! I am from India and recently had a severe acne breakout after using a 2% salicylic wash (Curatio spongysal - brand name) recommended to me by my dermatologist for my occasional breakouts. It very quickly became infected. My skin has always been dry, but this episode made it extremely sensitive. I had to visit another dermatologist who then put me on a clean cleanser - Episoft (might help some Indian audience), oral antibiotics and a heavy moisturiser. I took a serious skin detox and now it’s healing. But that episode has left scars :( I don’t think I can tolerate salicylic acid and am extremely scared of it. I don’t wear makeup either. Listening to you has given me an insight to what my skin care should look like, but I am struggling to find products here which might be equivalent to vanicream in US. Still on the lookout. I will update if I find something which can be shared. Thanks for your informative videos once again!

Not trying to throw hate AT ALL. I love the idea of accepting and loving your skin! However acne makes a lot of people self conscious and feel insecure. Its easy for someone with great skin to say “just don’t wear make up!” I have a lot of redness and blemishes on my face so not wearing make up is not an option for me right now. I would love instead of you just saying “no make up at all” to give us the ones that would be the least harmful or damaging to your skin. Again, no hate would just appreciate the recommendations because I believe a lot of people wouldn’t feel comfortable ditching make up at the moment while trying to improve their skin. Thank you hope to hear from you :)

Thank you, Dr. Dray, for your recommendation of a fragrance free antiperspirant, Vanicream. I have been often stymied by the sea of fragrance-laden deodorants/antiperspirants, most of which I tried but had to stop using because of irritation, itching and redness. I was resigned to using Dove Sensitive which has a masking fragrance until I stumbled upon your review here where you recommended Vanicream. I just began using it and just love it! P.S. If I thought the Altruist 30 would be less hurtful on my skin, I'd order one of the HUGE pump bottles. Is a lesser SPF usually more tolerable? I could have asked my dermatologist today, when I went in for an appointment - ironic, huh - but most derms do not know HALF of what you know about skin protection. So glad I found you...

Thank you Dr Dray for this video! I just discovered you and I'm so glad I did! I just placed an order for the sunscreean, lip sunscreean, facial cleanser, and the facial lite lotion. I'm hoping this will help me while I wait to make a dermatologist appointment. Everything I try seems to break me out or cause my face to be inflamed. I have never been one to jump fast and buy something right when I see it but you give me hope that I can fix my skin barrier!

If you live in Finland, Orion has a fragrance free cream that is said to mimic the barrier lacking on atopic skin. I started using it after trying out at the pharmacy, and it works wonders.:) Less creamy than the more greasy options from Orion. I use the super greasy one especially during winter, and for my hands. Their body oil is a nice one after shower, though on my face it made me break out and it causes irritation in my eyes - on my body it's great.

THANK YOU! "Monk like skincare" is no fun but I wish I had known about these products years ago. Cetaphil has been good but I am looking for great. Now I have them! A few years ago I developed a skin contact allergy to Springtime pollens. Seriously looked sunburned on every surface that was exposed to air. Finally after years of allergy meds, I thought to put on mineral based sunscreen. Oh the relief! That and thick creams exactly like you said are so essential to my skin health. Been using Cerave cream and basic cleanser for a couple of weeks now. Next Spring, I am going into to Vani. Thanks for sharing. You have made a difference in this lady's skin (and my family since I share).

Thank you so much for making this video! I’ve had skin issues since age 8 and I’ve battled with skin-picking for years. My parents put me on accutane when I was around 11-12 because I was having severe cystic acne, and ever since I’ve had very sensitive skin. Have you had people who have developed sensitivities after taking that medication? I can’t even use a lot of face washes or masks, especially ones with salicylic acid, because I’ve had chemical burns from them before or irritation that leads to even more dryness. I’m definitely going to try the Vanicream line, though! Thank you!

Oh and forgot to thank you for the Vani shampoo info too! I had a horrible irritation on my face and my derm doc traced it to my shampoo. Went to conditioning shampoos and that helped and shampoo less often. Finally have a shampoo I like that doesn't irritate. But for when that happens again (with my eczema, no doubt it will), I now have this. Super excited. Appreciate you Dr. Dray

Morning, morning. Questions: 1. does Vanicream Gentle Cleanser have a good ph and should I care about ph (I have dry, uber sensitive skin right now)? 2. Does one lose something, using Vanicream on face every night, as it lacks ceramides, etc.? Review after months of trial: Vanicream is my go-to for body and face. Love the SPF lip protectant. Love Vaniply for lips. The Vanicream mineral sunscreen or Blue Lizard Sensitive are great for body (or face for outdoor exercise). The Vanicream Sport sunscreen makes me hot and bothered. Might be Octinoxate? Have yet to find good mineral SPF for face without cast/irritation. Trialing chemical/physical, Oil of Olay for Sensitive Skin, SPF 30. Free and Clear Cleanser, shampoo/conditioner - too drying. Vendor recommends choosing another shampoo if color-safe is a concern. Neutrogena Creamy Wash still stings like a bee. Cerave cream loves my body too. The end. I wish every derm did what you did: vet products. Most recommend such limited options. When you give the seal of approval, I trust it. Your words are gold. (I know I sound like broken record, but it's the truth. You're golden).

I had started using 2 products from Pacifica(Dreamy Youth Day And Night Face Cream/Rose Flower Hydro Mist)thinking I was doing good for my skin because it's suppose to be good ingredients and it's cruelty free blah blah blah. Well after 2 weeks of using it(cause I'm told it takes that long for your skin to fully adjust)I have come to the conclusion that these products are absolute crap. After showering I would use the spray and then the moisturizer, and within 20-30 seconds my skin would get really red, bumpy and hot. My hubby asked me why my skin was so red and that's when it occurred to me that it has to be these products. And now after stopping usage I have white bumps under the skin that wont go away and when squeezed nothing happens. It looks horrible. :(

Have you listed no-sting / no-burn sunscreens for the eye area?
@andrew-song
@andrew-song 4 года назад
chateau7 Quite impossible to recommend a product as “no-sting” as each case is entirely individualized. In the realm of dermatology, we, or really anyone, cannot predict whether a product will sting you without any given background. But even then, we can only theorize a plausible choice, but you must know it isn’t risk-free. However, as a general rule of thumb though, inorganic or otherwise known as “mineral” sunscreens, have been reported to be somewhat more tolerable around the eye region. I do hope this helps, I don’t mean to sound like a bummer, but it truly is hard to predict what causes stinging amongst individuals, as each case varies.

I agree. Get the creamy formula of the Neutrogena vs the foaming formula. I made the mistake of grabbing the foaming formula and did not smell it. (like I usually do) oh my. It does not have fragrance, it is full blown perfume. Extrememly strong smelling. I don't even want to use it. I am trying it as a body wash, so it wont be near my face. Fortuately the smell goes away fairly quickly. I have used the Purpose Gentle face wash found at Walmart, walgreens and Kroger. It has fragrance, but it is so faint, I don't really notice it.Anyway, I am like the Purpose face wash. I also like the Cereve moisturizing face wash for times my skin is feeling tender from the Retin A.

Dr. Dray - What is your opinion about toners ? Every time I have gone for a facial (and that's another discussion!!)......they always try to push the importance of restoring the PH of the skin with a toner - is this really necessary ? I just LOVE your videos and your advice is so sensible. My skin issue is an allergy to soy. It’s the most common source for glycerine. When my allergist was setting up my skin tests the “control” Axe me developed a hive. I have been getting small non-inflamed transparent-like bubbles over pores lately. Could these be a result of sweating while wearing waterproof sunscreen? My thinking is the same technology that's keeping the water off the skin would be keeping sweat IN! I've worn that sunscreen for over two months without problems but the current heatwave has really put it to the test! Ciao, L

I understand you can't do diagnoses via RU-vid, but can you address, in general, whether water-proof sunscreens can act this way? i.e. trap-in sweat and cause skin issues? I have resolved the issue by not wearing that sunscreen when it's hot enough to sweat so I don't really see the need to visit my dermatologist. However, I am interested to know what could have happened given that only the waterproof formula acts this way. Thanks, L

I so enjoy your videos! I find your advice spot on and absolutely refreshing, thanks to the lack of bull and not being swayed by trends, PR, and hype (which I often fall for and have stopped). I also love that you reply and go the extra step of recommending something else if what you recommended doesn't work...Ditto to Vaniderm! I have had great results. I have dry-normal/sensitive/reactive skin and I love the cream, even on my face. I use all their products (the free and clear on the face, I find, works better for oily skin). I love their lip ointment too. My derm also recommends these products. I love the detox idea. It works (giving up makeup, not completely there yet. Trying. I luckily have very clear skin (at 60). I'm down to filling in my brows and wearing lipstick/lipgloss). Many thanks, again, for taking the time to provide such good advice.
