In this video, let's talk about sensory issues in people with autism. 00:00 Introduction 00:41 Sensory issues for us on the spectrum 04:38 answering subscriber questions 09:42 Why Etsy? How much I make! 11:16 WE got a new critter!
I can relate to all the sensory issues you have mentioned...I have left stores due to lights, I eat outside at restaurants as often as weather permits, idk why people like yelling across a table to be heard over music, lol. I also noticed I seem to be extra sensitive to pain, and meds.. basically all the things. Clothes, get togethers, you name it. I do the same thing with my wind down, I enjoy watching RU-vid and or reading, if I can concentrate on reading. Your experiences really nailed it for me. Thanks for sharing the vlog!
I love me some Lucky brand!💕Thanks for sharing that Lizzie...It make me feel good when others can relate to me and I them...I really love making the vlogs...they are so much fun! Maybe my children will enjoy watching them one day...
Loud noises---wow. I know lightning is what can kill us but THUNDER is what I dread most of all in a storm, even with ear plugs. Dogs barking, loud motors, when people shout---even my husband sneezing (without warning) and many, many more. Yes I have left stores with loud obnoxious music blaring, too. No point in hanging around trying to shop when I can't think because of the noise (and overly bright lighting!). Always socially awkward, I didn't even attend my own graduation! Or several friend/family weddings---which in at least one case sadly resulted in long-term hard feelings. But HOME alone is when I usually shine and have so much energy!! I'm still smiling from your crazy dance at the end of this video---thanks Jenny! 😄
Yes on the dog barking for me too...and loud motors. Also my husband talking sometimes. I was ok not going to a graduation party either....I just ate out with my family and it was ok with me. I'm glad you liked my crazy dance! LOL I put it at the end of the video because I felt like only about 3% were still watching at that point!🤣🥰
Noodle is very playful. I love that he uses a litter box! He's just a baby. He's 6 months old. My dog gets along with him. So far we are doing well with him.
Thanks for your prayers! I looked up Psalm 91, very nice! I can really relate to being home alone, I love being alone during the day. I think it is really important to find time for yourself 😊
I relate to all of the traits you've talked about here - especially the disliking of unplanned social situations, startle at loud noises and the lower pain threshold! XX
Watching these videos I'm reminded of the time in school, a girl who came from a family with money who was always having a meltdown and issues, she was labeled as a difficult rich kid, that's coming from the teachers, it was like two years into high school that she committed suicide, again I remember all the rich kid comments, understanding things a little better now privileged or not, I wonder how many kids have fallen through the cracks
He is adorable. He does have a certain odor that I'm having trouble adjusting too. Ferrets are in the skunk family but they "de-musk" them. I can't imagine what the little guy smelled like before that!
@@autisticjenny You're so funny. What will you name him? I bet he becomes your best friend wrapping himself around you when you edit your videos. Happy for you guys.
Hi Jenny ! Sensory issues are a big topic ! I read a little book "Sensory trauma", I can't remember who wrote it, I'll look for it is someone is intersted. It explained so much !!! The way we perceive the world is very different from neurotypical people. The world is too much for us, in its sensory aspect. I've been considered weird and hypersensitive all my life, before diagnosis. I'm happy to be able to understand why, but it doesn't make me less sensitive... I avoid a lot of social situations because of that (maybe too much). It's not easy to understand for people who can't feel the way I do, they often think I'm exagerating. Maybe you should put a link to your Etsy shop in the description box ! I don't have a side business, I seriously thought about it, but I had big health issues, and I still don't have enough energy to reconsider it. I hope you are better, I'm sorry you had a respiratory infection. Have a nice day ! 💖
Sounds like a great book! yes, that would be great. I am only learning how severe my senses are. That lovely ferret we got yesterday, even though it was de-musked, has a smell that is hard for me to be around. :( We are trying to figure that one out. My mom didn't know I was hypersensitive to things because I never told her. I thought I just had to do what I was told and other people seemed to handle the situations....Yes, I can put that link there in the description box if you come across it. I may look for it also....Have a wonderful day! Yes, I'm feeling much better.❤
I think ferrets are really cute but I don't like their smell either. Even dogs are pretty stinky to me. Cats smell ok but their litter box can be smelly.
@@Catlily5 I'm struggling to the smell. He was supposed to be "de-musked" but I can still smell him. My family doesn't though. His cage is on wheels and I just wheel him to my son's room when it bothers me. Yes, cat litter boxes can be an overwhelming smell too....i take it you love cats since your name on here is Lilycat? :)
Glad I found your channel. I’m late identified asd1 and adhd, 56 and it’s been a yr since both my husband and I finding out we are both neurodiverse.🎉🎉
Glad you found my channel too! Good to meet someone close to my age. I think my husband is autistic too, he hasn't been diagnosed, just me. But I know the guy. We've been married 17 years. LOL :)
Good video, Jenny. Yes, medications and loud sounds sensitivities. Blood pressure cuff squeezing my arm hurts. Where I live, marijuana is legal and my sensitive nose picks up on it immediately--on the college campus, store parking lots, even sitting in traffic. So gross. Thanks for making these videos.
130 listings on Etsy - while working full time, while doing RU-vid ... just wow, I'm tired already from just typing that. Kidding aside, really wow, thanks for sharing your story, your talent with us all.
LOL Thank you...It was busy when I was first putting all the listings. It was before I had a youtube channel. Now all my focus is on the youtube channel. :) I just really enjoy sharing my story and being able to create something that will hopefully be something for others who need it and can relate to my stories.
"Let's go check out the garden" - walks into a field... My garden is about 20ft square! I'd love to live somewhere out of the built-up area I currently live in *sigh*
dId you see my 20 foot square garden despite the fact we have ALL that space in the back? LOL My husband hates tilling or tending to the garden so thus the container garden. LOL But I'm really excited. You know you can grow a lot of vegetables in a big pot....You might try to grow tomatoes or something! :)
@@autisticjenny I would ideally like a small place that backs onto a field so I only have a little space to look after but can see greenery rather than houses houses houses!
@@minkwells8434 I can imagine...I really do enjoy living in the country. I like to sit on my front porch and watch the sun set. I hope no one ever builds a house across our road that will block my view.
You didn't miss anything. I'm not sure why it said I went "live." I haven't ever gone live yet. But when I get 1000 subscribers I am going to. So, no worries! :)
@@autisticjenny no that was my mistake. My apologies I thought because the way you present is it that it was done lied to me it was decided very well so my apologies.
I would recommend Kate's channel... www.youtube.com/@KateHayes But if you just type in the youtube search how to start an etsy shop, there are 1,000's of great videos! That's what helped me the most starting out. You need to research what digital downloads are popular. Making digital scrapbooking supplies, digital stickers, digital planners that can be printed from the customer's home. But I don't know if you make physical items. Go into research mode. Give yourself a month of just learning about etsy platform and deciding what you want to make and write down several choices of shop names until you choose one you like. YOur shop name is a huge decision that can impact sales. Find a platform to create these digital items such as canva. I use canva pro for a small fee because I have more access on there. Learn about what is copyrighting so to make sure you don't just use other people's designs, but make your own versions so you don't get your shop taken down. There's currently shops selling items like Disney and other popular culture things that are getting in trouble for that and their shops removed. The more origial idea the better....I hope I gave some useful information! Let me know how it goes....
I can't concentrate on what people are saying if there is even medium loud music playing. My brain prioritizes the melody over talking. It is a struggle.
Yes....I tried going to night clubs as a young adult because I thought that's what I was supposed to do, but the music made it hard to concentrate or even hear other people! I don't get the big deal with clubs nor do I feel comfortable there....
