Great video my brother. Glad to say vehicle has been upgraded with oil cooler to prevent this happening again. Also found that the Cat was blocked due to previous turbo broken and parts left inside. Due to high exhaust temps vehicle cut of fuel. The main thing is that the 🐐 of the Nurburgring new what to do in this situation and managed to safely get us to safety. Will be back my brother we go again with more upgrades
His lap in mine produced 134° C oil temp, my (first) lap right after, going as fast as I safely can (also overtaking much more than getting overtaken), produced 116° C. Also I had temperature markers on the brakes, and his lap was the first time those ever hit their minimum temperature :) So yeah, can confirm :)
@J that seems a bit harsh. I think everyone thought the car was more than track capable. Hard to predict this event, especially with the way Misha pushed it.
He handled it really nicely. He's driven over from England and could have been a bit embarrassed and disappointed, but if he was, he didn't let it show. Was no fault of his own though. Top bloke, sure he'll get it sorted and be back. Car makes a Ace sound - and great to see Miša sending a diesel for a change of scene.
I like the owner's reactions. Awkward, nervous confusion, seeming embarrassment and anxiety, started checking his car ECU through his phone (nice setup there) and then the relief and laughter when he realizes it was fuel cutoff due to high G force driving. Just laughs and says "Misha" 😂great reaction. Sometimes, you just gotta laugh! Not sure many of us would have remained so placid throughout the ordeal. Kudos to the owner 👍
@@gears1707 well it wasnt actually the issue, he has a pinned comment saying what actually happened. But if it was the issue then you would just have to disable it or potentially get a different cut off switch or reprogram it, dont know if its like a mechanical cut off at x or its like software that sees specific G force and could be reprogrammed to do it at higher G
This man seems to be such a nice guy! Props to him for keeping cool vibes and wanting to bring son to Nurburgring. I wish I had son and could go drive around NR...
I love it when you show people what their car is capable of making them love the car even more even if it doesn't survive the lap lol. Thanks again Misha
Great video as always! Think owner should revise the tune on his ECU, if car was smokey at high revs means that it has too much injection time and/or fuel pressure, causing the EGT to raise quickly over 900 degrees. Car got in limp mode in the uphill high speed section after a while at over 3000rpm. Tune has to be properly refined to keep temperatures under control. Had similar issue on my car, solved it with a little more rail pressure, less injector opening time and different injection timing. 💪🏻 Diesel can be fast and funny if properly tuned!
In his comment above he mentioned that his cat was blocked with parts from a previous engine failure. He installed a better oil cooler to support the ECU tune.
@@Alex-hv3ir Unfortunately, I think white smoke from diesel engine means a crack in cylinder head unless you're hearing engine obviously missing power from one cylinder (which would cause diesel to go through the cylinder without ignition, probably because of a broken valve). If you're losing any coolant, it's the cause of white smoke because coolant is leaking through the cylinder head.
Very well handeld Misha, instant safe park location, not trying to troubleshoot while being an unguided missle but instead stopping and than troubleshoot.
I think I can explain what exactly happened with the car's brain. I think the car is determining where the "down" is by computing the angle of currently experienced acceleration in relation to the body. So when you sent it close to, say, 2g to the side, that angle was around arctan(2)~=64 degrees and so the car thought it's literally rolling over at that angle. Ford engineers never predicted someone will send it that hard haha. Amazing stuff.
Im sorry but I think it sounds terrible, it just sounds so extremely fake... Thats obviously because it is fake, but I cant stand the synthetic noise, same with the Audi S6 Diesel, which sounds just totally strange on the outside. I drive a BMW Diesel that doesnt have any synthetic noise and it still gives a nice bassy rumble, way better than these fake sounds.
@@PaulL42654 I think most people have it shut off when it's tuned, like I did with mine. They're surprisingly throaty and sound decent for a 4 banger. Although I've never seen a diesel version here in Canada. This one sounds like the Subaru boxer engine imo.
As a focus owner on my second engine I always dread the "Service Engine Now" warning, usually one of a million things always expensive... good old ford :D
I had a Ford, but not long enough for anything major to go. Still, had to replace quite a few things on it at low km Meanwhile at Toyota, you may need to replace such parts 15 years later
Misfortune that turned this into a very educational video. Something like this we all should be prepared for. Fortunate those marshal cars where so close at hand, could have been a longer scarier wait. Mario here took it like a champ, and I have do deal out some extra points for the raised white lettering on the tires.
🤣🤣 Thanks, my brother. I love the car as it started as my daily car to and from work 🤣. We learnt alot after Misha full send and have upgraded all of them. We will go again sometime in June
Absolutely love these vids.. this summer I'm taking my sti out on my local track.. never done it before but watching your video makes me wanna get out there.
With that headline I thought you actually sent it too hard, so I was a bit surprised when it was a Focus ST diesel. :D That being said, I love cars that are a bit different, we don't see many of these. Thanks for the video, and awesome car Mario. Glad you fixed it.
He didn't recoginize Misha so he goes with the basic instructions. And the reason for those instructions is that somebody previously failed to stay on the right while driving a slow car and caused additional incident.
As soon as you said there was a lot of smoke I was thinking those EGT's are going to be climbing fast. Throwing a load of fuel into a diesel is an easy way to make big numbers on a dyno but its also a very fast way to get very high EGT's. Water meth or nitrous are two ways to cure it. Someone who can actually map a car without just doing a moon tune is the better way.
Misha you absolutely do not need those low level misleading titles at all. Your channel is so absolutely amazing all by its top level content (queue the recent Civic Type-R battle over a whole lap which must be some of THE MOST AMAZING car content ever to be presented). Please just stay yourself and don’t get sucked into grandiose video titles. people watch you because they know every video is a treat.
My diesel wagon also once turn off on a long uphill with long left turn. Also displayed "fuel cut-off" error. Good thing it is "common rail" and it primed itself with no issues, like it might be on mechanical ones... Turn out fuel intake was "repaired" by previous owner, just changed it and no issues since then.
Nice to see another tuned Diesel. My car now has a big brake kit so now I actually dare to go to the nurnburgring and drive on it. My stock brakes couldn’t even handle 5min of sporty driving trough the woods where I live. Will be there laat weekend of April with my entire car squad.
had also a problem going to the nurburgring. on kickdown the engine stalled. after 2 laps on the nurburg ring. the problems where gone. found out later the fuel filter was clogged😅
I am very surprised nobody checked it wasn't dropping oil before they went back out on the track. Especially as it was smoking. This is why I am very reluctant to take my motorbike on the ring.
I would expect limp mode before engine cut off, usually engine will shut off due to fuel system related issues not exhaust temperature, I would expect the high EGT was as a direct result of the fuel system issue as in low rail pressure and extended injection duration leading to high EGT. Also if fuel injection limiters are being respected in the software, the ECU will reduce the torque output of the engine to protect the engine from overheating long before any fuel cut off would come into play....or at least that should be the case
A Focus ST and Limp Mode. As a Focus St owner I can say this is a match made in heaven. I love these things but boy can they be temperamental sometimes. lol
That was most probably a p0087 due to too much rail pressure requested. That is why the engine shut off when you clutch in. Just stg2 things from UK diesel tuners 🤣
I know Misha has to be one of the busiest drivers at that track. I can only assume that there are plenty of experienced drivers that will drive you around the track in a modded car for the right price. An experience one day I’d like to have.
By the way (on a slightly different subject) , even people can get done driving recklessly fast on unrestricted sections of autobahn. The TÜV are the dvsa but stricter
@@colinscutt5104 he commented, turns out he installed an oil cooler after this to prevent it from happening again. And he's going to bring it back for misha to have another go, will be good 👍
Yup, Ford's Focus's just suck. Had an MK3 ST before, it overheated so easily I wanted to smash that freaking thing into the guardrails every time I tracked it.
Misha needs to be put in place of crash testing, he’s far more skilled at finding any and all weak points then applying all the pressure he can muster on those weak points until the car auto-disassembles(Kerbal type ish).
1st time for everything... This is probably the 1st time you scared the car not your passenger. Lol 😅😂 Great video as always Thank you for all your hard work 👍❤👍
at the exact same place my car did the same. TWICE! No throttle response. First time i went out at Steilstück-Corner and engine off. Won't came back on. The end was on top of the towtruck. At Ringboulevard, the car sartet just normal. One year later it came back right before Steilstück. After this, the car was running normal the rest of the lap. Car: Leon 1m Cupra R
I'm sure that the safety systems and procedures at the Ring are second to none. If I should ever get the chance to drive it, I"ll have no concerns about help being available if I need it.
I would like to point out the the car thought it was going to roll on a perfectly straight road.. I guess this says a lot about ford's reliability 😅🤭 Misha you are the best! 🏎
The owner must’ve mixed up lbft and nm, pumaspeed states 520nm for their stage 2, which is roughly what he said in lbft, 550lbft is 745nm which would be quite silly for a 2l fwd focus😅
I’m not sure about German law with dpf deleting but in the UK I believe it’s illegal with up to a £1000 fine for cars & may also invalidate insurance. Not that I’d bother to do it but definitely keep it quiet.
I've watched this a few times, I would however suggest, not turning off that control. All you need to do it adjust the value higher than it currently is and that problem will fade away without issues in the future where you risk your car from a runaway.
Hello Comrade 👍Great video as always and perfectly excecutted emergency pull over at a very fast section 👌 Those torque figures at the start though sounded like a wet dream for a 2.0 td motor 😉😂 ... 550 lb-ft ?!?! ... that's 745.69 Nm !!! from a four pot diesel ??? PumaSpeed 's own webside quote Stage 2R of up to 520 Nm which is 383.53 lb-ft..
Top tip! If you find yourself in a similar position, turn off your engine, wait a few seconds, start it back up. It would have probably reset its self. And your good to go. Until the next time that is.
I resent modern technology in some ways. Too clever for it's own good. "The traction control is living it's own life" sums it up perfectly. Now fuel cut off will stop play like a scared mother.
safe mode maybe? Its normal on diesel car, look temperature of air, mediam 29 Cº. Very hot for diesel. Normaly turn off motor for 30 seconds and turn on again and finish problem.
"550 pound of torque" nah bro' you mean 550nm , but still impressive 😗 I like the ST diesel a lot, and it is far better engine choice than the petrol versions!!
Question: when doing the rev matching/ doing heel and toe technique, how much throttle input should you apply? And does it slow down if you do the rev match, without the use of brakes?
You can practice this without heel and toe, gear changes only, just won't allow you to brake simultaneously. The perfect amount of throttle is that which places the revs exactly where they will be in the next gear down when the gear change is completed. The point of it is the synchros will be spinning at the same speed as you engage the gear and there will be no clashing. You'll know you've done it right if the gear goes in like butter and the revs don't change when you clutch out. It will release dopamine in your brain so practice will be enough, your subconscious does the rest. It's typically a small tap for a split second and depends on the engine's response, and the gearing in the car. Start with small taps rather than mashing it.
Of course It's smoking alot without DPF & tuned which means more turbo pressure. It is also easier on the engine without DPF so there's nothing wrong with the engine relating to that.
Great question, and I am looking into this however on my data log, my oil pressure has never dropped to even flag up a warning. Even now after installing a oil cooler I never reach the half line of the parameters set. But dry sup would add to the safety measures
as soon as I heard its 250brake 500torque I was thinking this would be a great "cruising car" in the middle revs on winding roads. rather than high rpm heat
@@johannsmith5697 Nah, its stock. Even if u modify them. U can tune them without smoke. Its all on ECU, u can make it a smoke machine too or a cute little guy. I prefer cute little guy but most of the peoples choose smoke machine xD. EGR and MAF is important too.
Misha, I've been following you since the beginning and I really appreciate your content. I specify this so that you understand that it is not about any hate towards you. Maybe I'm not the best person to give advice, but man, the left foot brake doesn't make sense on some cars, in some situations. Many times you told the community not to go at times when they are at trackday (I salute this), but you use your left foot on the brake. I don't want to go into details because I am convinced that you understand my point of view perfectly.
