There have been more and more of this style of case being reviewed however almost no one does thermal performance which in my mind is the most important aspect when considering if it's too much of a compromise to get the small form factor gaming pc. So please break the trend and do more in depth thermal testing for mini itx cases!
It's a good start but there are more questions that can be answered. A big one for me is that modern gpu's will push up their boost clock as high as the chip and the thermals will allow often greatly exceeding the minimum boost specified on the box. For example my GTX 1070 will boost up to 2000mhz despite only being rated for 1873mhz. It's interesting to compare if a gpu can achieve maximum boost (not just the minimum boost in it's specifications) in both a standard atx box or a small itx case like this one. I'd also want to know what cases have the best options for cooling and how the cooling can be optimised. For example, does adding better fans improve the performance or is the design of the case flawed in such a way that it makes minimal or no impact? What about blower vs non blower design fans? If I need to get a blower style cooler in order to achieve good performance that's something that's nice to know for sure before purchasing. Are there any manufacturers who have come up with anything extra that can enable better cooling? What about the types of cpu coolers that can fit in these cases and do they make much of a difference over the stock cooling? It's good to look at the case in isolation when you're doing a review like this, but we all know that systems are a composite of their parts and some cases play nicer with the other components than others.
Wspaniale widzieć produkty z Polski na Twoim kanale, Dimitri! Really, awesome, to see polish products on your channel, but one thing bugs me out, is there any probability that this metal gpu backplate may short out gpu pcb somehow, if it doesn't have its own backplate?
Like wow, you know the most common swear in Polish and you pretend like you know shit. Same for "suka bljat idi ty nahuj" in Russian. It kinda pisses me off when people do that.
Le Potato I typed it in Polish pronunciation, also "cyka" isn't right as the cyrillic letters mean "suka". Dumb hamburgers don't know how to be a slav jebanyj sabaka bljat ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
You have to use something like a Pico PSU or HDPLEX HiFi 250W PSU in the case, with a laptop power brick powering it because there's no room for a traditional PSU. I wish it had two USB on the front like the Sentry. My intent is living room gaming rig, so plugging two controllers in front would be nice!
You're in luck, they have a white version planned out too, it's just that they ran the first reviewer prototypes all in black and will offer both options when they go up for sale.
Not a bad case, but to be fair, while the DAN-Case A4 SFX is a littlebit bigger, it looks much nicer, is made from aluminium and manufactured by LianLi. Also the QUality seems better.
Hans Tang hi! Yes r9 nano was working very well in s4 mini especially with front mesh design..:) But now I fell in love of msi gaming x cooler ( cool and quiet) so I'm updating my gaming setups in that way.. :) I'm aiming at compromise compact/easy assembly maintenance/ noise / cooling/ sfx psu . s4 mini will remain my mobility, cooling and style king (noise and pico psu were the issues from my personal point of view)..:)
well its made by two dudes. not a big company with Chinese relations and really thin steel etc. its pretty quality. we're used to everything being made by machines or under VERY cheap labor. (like less than $1/hr) where people in developed countries demand at elast $10-$20/hr hopefully that clears things up.
you clearly don't realize the effort put in this case. and as he mentioned in the video its production process is not fully automatic and it's bend by workers. it's a reasonable price for such a case in my opinion
This case is awesome. Same volume as Silverstone Milo series ITX cases, but you can fit a full sized, dual slot card, and up to 12"! The Milos only have half height expansion slots (1 on some, 2 on some), and a single full sized slot. Fitting a much more powerful system into the same space is impressive
You can put 2 2.5" drives inbetween the mobo/PSU and the GPU, but they have to be 9.5mm thick. There's also a bracket to mount more 2.5" drives next to the GPU if you use an ITX size graphics card.
I think this is review case day. This is the 6th review I've seen in my sub box on a case. And it's the only one to not be a fractal define mini C case.
It sucks I missed out on this. I'm glad it well for the company. Their goal was $19,500.00 and they raised $222,388.00. Two years in development paid off. Pretty cool little case.
This was very interesting. I think your feedback was very constructive. Clearly they have worked hard on this design and I love the hand-manufactured look. I'd like to see a follow up review in the next 12 months or so if they decide to include dust filters and find better fasteners.
I have a node 202 build with a Gtx 1070 in it. Runs really well. About the same temp this guy running a 1060 in this case idk what specs he was running at but I ran it at 1440p on highest possible just to test it. It's nice for a travel buddy but I still run my main rig with my 1080. PS my cable management sucked in my node 202 🤣🤣
I think its quite elegant and it looks great on top of the desk. That being said, I'm quite happy with my spacious mid-tower Graphite 600T. All of the room in the world, and it runs so much cooler, and with the stock 200mm intake and exhaust fans and a 120mm push-pull all-in-one cooler I have these temps: i7 4790K Idle: 30°C Load: 57°C EVGA GTX 970 SSC Idle: 36°C Load: 53°C
I'm happy with my midtower case which offers plenty of space for efficient cooling after overclocking the CPU and GPU. To me this case would be useful if you're lugging your PC around a lot and want something that's easy to carry, otherwise it's just an aesthetic unit for people who prefer looks over performance.
JCTiggs I feel the same. I'm not giving up my sexy mid tower for anything. I wouldn't mind a decent gaming laptop to go with my tower though, but that's just me being greedy.
patiently waiting for this case. I can't wait for this thing. I've had an nCase m1 v2 as I missed the v1 by a week. I can't wait to get my hands on this thing and build a system in it.
I don't know what camera Linus uses but your camera and videography skills is significantly better in my opinion props to you my friend! ps great review mate!
Avalon Joshua You might be surprised how much heat a solid block of milled copper with a vapor chamber can dissipate! There's actually a number of 140 Watt rated low profile heat sinks intended to fit in 1U or 2U server racks, which are even thinner than this case.
To expensive. Not enough cooling options. And the fact its been in dev for 2 years, and its not even finished? Still another 6 months. NO WAY. 3 minutes to take off the first panel? Lol gtfo
with a case that small you are gonna have to give up some features if you really NEED to save some space. But yeah its not that great if you don't really care how big or large it is.
We have to hate just everything someone else makes on internet these days, eh?. This is a specific niche product. Not satisfied? Go design and kickstart your own so we`ll see how many people like it :D.
its handmade, its not all that simple to bend mental in the ways you want, you could probably not do it with instructions unless you've been taught to do it. not to mention how its steel and powder coated. its not meant to be opened and closed all the time, go and complain about how a ps4 takes 5 min to open and close. you're supposed to do it once. obviously this is supposed to be a console alike case, it takes a long ass time to finetune small stuff. at 7 liters every single cm counts. a i5 6600 would probably keep quite cool in a build like this. i'm shocked you didnt even complain about not having a 3.5" slot anywhere or a slim cd rom :^) you sir, must be a troll, that complains about everything that is expensive but not as good as something else.
It was design to be ONLY SMALL in the FIRST place. its not FOCUSING on cooling, drives compability all those thing. How hard is it to understand slim ITX theme.
Very nice case indeed! I would love to have a Dr. Zaber eGpu case similar (but smaller) to that. That will fit perfectly with my LG Gram 17's Thunderbolt 3.
mITX markets are very small. This is a community driven project too so it's not like they're working with or can afford the resources large companies have. Give it time and another option will be available for cheaper.
HardwareCanucks also congratulations on the new studio, its been quite a journey, been here ever since you shit videos in he balcony table. Keep up the amazing work, hope you get a million soon, you really deserve it !
yesterday I build a Pc for my friend in a Node 202, now he has a i5 6500, 16GB RAM, a GTX 1060 6GB, a 500GB SSD, a 1,5TB HDD all on a Gigabyte b150 Phoenix His old Pc had a Core2 Duo E8500, a GTX 650 1GB, 4GB RAM, a 500GB HDD and was just so slow ... now he can play every Game and his Desk has much more Space :) I myself own a Define R5, but now I'm a Little Bit jealous when i See his ITX Pc :D
CaradenM Okay, make it a 1070. Still, no laptop will come even close. Maybe one of those beasts with desktop CPU and GPU that cost north of $4000, but any normally priced laptop won't.
I think it is nice. GPU temps are higher though. My 11.5L Sugo is bigger than I want for my HTPC, but definitely maintains cooler temps. Suppose it has a fan in front though for airflow. Good review IMO.
I've been watching this case on the LinusTechTips forum for a bit during its development, and it's super exciting to see it being reviewed! Definitely agree with the dust filtration recommendation, but maaaaaan, other than that this would make for an awesome console-sized PC! Maybe pair it with more power-optimized parts, like the T series of Intel chips, as well as with a solid blower-style GPU?
Legend has it that dimitri will reply if your this early. I love the video btw! Woot woot! Shout out to the notification squad and the ones who were there even before!
simplify first step: set compact electricians drill to lowest rpm setting and minimum torque (if yours includes that adjustment), then make sure you have the correct bit. makes removing screws a breeze and doesnt add too much to build cost if you dont already have one. definately not a necessary tool but life has been easier when working on my system or someone elses.
Love the video, and surprisingly the advert, which was highly creative and original. On the other hand not the biggest fan of the case. As a tiny PC it does tickle my fancy far more than a midtower, but sitting on the thermal limit for the graphics card isn't great, especially because most non-reference cards have higher wattages, so will be worse affected even if they are blowers by design. Also if you're going to go with the vertical layout (which I think you should if you have a decent GPU for the sake of temperatures), the wider foot cause effective desk space needed to not much less than the much larger internally RVZ02 (only 50mm longer). The optional carry case likewise seems a little flawed, since while the PC goes in it fine, it doesn't fit a decent monitor, somewhat defeating the purpose. Finally the choice of steel with socket heads, as noted in the video this makes the case not only heavy but slow to work on and can be very rough on the surface of desks etc. I think aluminum with threaded inserts and countersunk screw heads is honestly worthwhile at this price, since it's mostly a labor not material cost and it avoids needing to tap the chassis, so price gains would be minimal, as would panel bending on a box so small with so many fasteners. The only downside is it wouldn't be much faster, just neater, lighter and less likely to damage your things.
