Everybody gets to be young, not everybody gets the privilege to grow old. I catch myself admiring older women that let their hair go grey and yet there's an energy about them that radiates such a wonderful newness about them. I hope to be one of them some day.

I am 35 and happy to be aging naturally and gracefully! I think it's so important to remember in youth-glorifying cultures that we have value at every age, and every age is valuable. Especially when I almost didn't even make it out of my 20's alive, I welcome every new turn life has to offer for the future. We are so much more than our appearances, and all that time spent worrying about our looks rather than pursuing our interests and goals that actually give life meaning just seems like a bunch of wasted time tbh. I don't want to go through this life dreading every wrinkle, I want to go through life proud that I've *earned* every wrinkle (and there's only more to come! lol)

Simply BEING is the perfect antidote to body dysmorphia that has plagued me for so many years. A wonderful friend told me that every line on my face were the expression of past happiness and experiences. I have enough trouble with distorted beauty standards but Seoul would really do my head in where beauty is viewed as a personality trait. Watching k-pop and k-dramas you see so many examples of bad plastic surgery and immovable faces. Thank you Cari for raising this issue, I am certain there are many of us who constantly confront ourselves and are healing by LIVING beyond the mirror.

As someone that recently turned 31 and is now officially ‘in’ her 30’s too lol, your conversation about aging, noticing changes etc is SO relatable. Since going off birth control a little over a year ago, I’ve also noticed the hormone changes also caused changes in my skin as far as aging. But you are so right, when we are busy and doing things we love with people we love, it all seems so inconsequential ❤
@caricakes

Yes! And people around you that are actually a part of your “real” life shouldnt care about your face aging. I feel like nowadays we’re forced to care about what people we dont even know think and thats a dangerous way to live. And happy belated bday hehe
@af8604
@af8604 11 месяцев назад
Hello! 40-something here! I rarely care much what my face looks like, and I've never been tempted to get plastic surgery/botox. All the women in my family wrinkle up like prunes, and we're OK with that. It helps if you were never conventionally attractive in the first place, and you have a job where nobody cares what you look like. The people who love you will love you no matter what you look like.

Howdy! I'll be 41 in a few months. For me, I only started to worry about aging around the time I turned 37. (That was the year I discovered BTS and the members were all in their 20s back then.) I'm really into skincare now, taking collagen supplements and getting lots of exercise (primarily through walking). I hear about ladies in their 20s getting cosmetic procedures and even teenagers take collagen supplements these days. I'm not here to judge anyone. People should do what makes them feel good and more confident in themselves.
@haute03
@haute03 11 месяцев назад
@@tranquilbakergentletraveller People worried about aging in their teens and 20s to the point where they're getting procedures done is honestly so upsetting to me. I don't judge them, but I do judge the society and media that's making them feel like they should do those things.

I’m in my 70s and had opportunities to undergo treatments to my face but honestly I couldn’t be arsed to waste the money, time and go through the pain. I embrace every wrinkle, crease and line as a testament to a life well lived with fun, love and good & bad times. It is what it is!
@dreamywillow8664

I’m 20 and I’ve noticed a lot of people my age being terrified of aging and honestly I’ve had to fight that mentality as well- I have to consciously chose to reject all the bs that has been ingrained in all of us growing up- especially as women- that we have to fight nature to look as youthful as we can and honestly that sounds pretty miserable to me. And I don’t want to end up trapped in that state of mind in my 30s, 40s, 50s etc. I want to be grateful for every year I’m alive and able to experience things. And after a few years of observing all this anti aging shit that affects all ages negatively I’ve come to really appreciate the beauty in older people, older women, and genuinely look forward to being older one day. I hope to experience so many things by the time I’m old- and why should I want to hide all that I’ve been through and the life I’ve lived? Sorry I just kind of went of the rails with this rant but. I don’t know. Also a lot of anti aging shit is capitalist bullshit made for us to spend more money due to our insecurities. Anyways.

Happy birthday to Kurt. You are beautiful and in my humble opinion don’t need a thing done to your face. Laugh lines and things like that add character to people’s faces. I personally am not a fan of things that I will have to do over and over, such as dying my hair or getting fake nails. But that is me. I have friends who do both and that’s great but me personally, I think I’m just too lazy. Lol

Fellow 31yo redhead here! Thanks for your comments about Botox and ageing - I am also noticing my skin changing, and your comments and eventual decision not to pursue Botox brought me so much comfort and reassurance. I also know that if I got Botox, it would be coming from a place of insecurity, but that doesn't make it any easier to resist. You are beautiful exactly how you are, and you will continue to be no matter how much you age!

I also have struggled with body dysmorphia and finally feel like I am comfortable with who I am and how I look at 30... I know if I got botox, it would just cause all those self image issues to come back. It's so difficult when almost every single person on social media is constantly talking about it...and it makes me a little scared that I'll look much older than everyone else my age because I was the only one to not have botox.

Thank you for this video! I just turned 35 and since I turned 30, I've been experiencing the same thing - periods of sometimes weeks where I think obsessively about the changes in my face and body (usually around my birthday) - and sometimes I don't think of it at all. I try to limit my consumption of media that shows mostly only young, beautiful people like Pinterest and ads, or traditional media (like magazines), and I follow more creators like you - your channel inspires me and has taught me to notice the little things and appreciate life! I'm so glad to have found you and that we'll be growing up together 😊❤

I turned 32 last month and I can relate on being more alert about aging. Also, I have a lot of silvery hair strands, but I've decided not to dye my hair for now. Right now I'm more interested in learning how to love myself and build a healthy self esteem, because I think the more we learn to own who we truly are and know ourselves the less we're swayed by everything else.

I just turned 36: Your early 30s is such a head trip. It's the first time you really start thinking about aging in a real way and it feels so heavy. We all go through it. When I hit 35 there was another big shift for me as I truly came into myself. 36 was such an empowering birthday for me. I know MANY women (and men!!) who felt the opposite, but for me I spent my energy thinking about the things that lifted me - not how I felt compared with others, because it's like, what's it all for? what does it all lead to? And ya know, make whatever decisions you need to come into your own, but make sure it comes from YOUR needs, not to meet the expectations of others. As you said, when youre living in a way that serves you, you don't notice the stupid stuff every makes you THINK is important. ❤

I always enjoy these chats. I'm 58 and I've never had botox or anything. I always admire your skin and remember when people told me I had a peaches and cream complexion like yours. Unfortunately, I got a sunburn when I was 18 that has now caught up with me and I smoked for a few years and that doesn't help either. But, I kind of like the honesty of my face. It's seen some things. lol As for Autumn, the remnants of Ophelia are coming into my little Virginia city and it really looks and feels like Autumn out there today. I've had a whole day of watching movies that everyone else in the world had seen but me. haha I watched Stardust and Bewitched. Time for a little reading now. :)

I appreciate your thoughtfulness about aging. I am editing a video right now where I didn’t get the lighting right and my face shows my 57 years of texture. 😂 I think HD video made a big change in how we see faces. I wish I could see more 57 year olds that look 57 onscreen, but it’s hard and I understand that especially women feel, with reason, that they won’t get work if they don’t have smooth faces. 😢Here’s to loving the skin we’re in. 🥰

Gurl! Feel you on body image. I’ve struggled with that it’s such a hangover for 90s kids/00s teens when we had to be skinny with a perfect youthful face to be seen as beautiful by society. I’ve worked hard to accept myself as well and from time to time it comes back. I work in TV as a producer and women needing to look perfect is still a huge thing in TV as well as being young - women like me say we are too old to be on TV! Which is kinda crazy but it’s how it is! so its great to see RU-vidrs like you leading the way and showing authenticity. We all think your gorgeous but understand that human thought of aging and seeing ourself changing.

Okay, I loved your chat about Botox. I am going to be 36 in a couple of months, and I started getting Botox for my "11" the "in between the eyebrow" frown lines. I frown there so much because of my job, and it just bugs me how deep they have become. I am only getting it 2x a year, and I only do a small amount in my forehead area, and I have been really happy with it. I am a SUPER expressive person, and I don't feel at all that it limits my ability to move my face, and it has reduced the headaches that I used to get a lot. I will not get filler or Botox around my eyes of my smile lines cause I love those wrinkles cause I got them from all the laughing I do. I totally agree with you, though when you are out living your life and not being so concerned with the mirror, you are not as obsessed with the flaws of your skin, and that is a good thing... It is 100% a weird time to be 30

Ahh I tried to reply once and it didn't post... but thank you for your comment! I agree with you that not all botox is necessarily to be vilified. I also have the between-the-brow creases forming (at 36) and am thinking of getting botox for them. I would never touch my crows feet or smile lines, but I don't want to look angry or mean all the time when I'm old. :( I'm glad to hear you are happy having done it and you can still be expressive!

Taking a technically good photo isn't hard if one knows the factors to consider. Taking a photo that makes the viewer feel something or think of something is harder than it seems. A "good" photo evokes something more than "here is what the photographer saw through the viewfinder" -- it's something that inspires as well. I read Tuck Everlasting in an English class in junior high, I think. Now I'm wondering why nobody's done a more recent film adaptation.

I was receiving botox injections for chronic migraines every 3 months for 2 years. It had the side effect of dropping my right eyebrow (which was in a constant lifted position in response to pain), and it got rid of the line that had been developing between my brows. I have since had heart surgery, which fixed my migraines. And that little line between my brows is creeping back. I kind of missed it TBH. When I was 30, I thought I would never get botox, but I can't judge those who want to. I also have the luxury of never having to look at myself. Anyway, you are beautiful, and the joy that your face expresses is such a big part of that.

Yes girl! I’m 30 and didn’t expect to have feelings about my last birthday but when it did it hit hard. Same. I’ve noticed changes in my face and it’s so weird. But I don’t think I’d ever get Botox either for the same reasons. I feel like I wouldn’t look like me. The lines on our faces are a roadmap of experiences we’ve had. I don’t think I’ll even dye my hair even though I’m getting some grays. The emphasis at least in the US is covering up and faking our ages, not in how to accept that we’re aging and getting older. So we’re all struggling to figure out how to do it and be happy in our bodies. For what it’s worth I think you’re gorgeous! And you have great skin. Happy thirties to us!

Thank you Cari for showing us your real you. I have realised so many vloggers nowadays, who have textured skin, put a smoothing filter in their face to make sure we don't see it but at times, when they move the filters don't work and they show their real skin and I feel like they are also unconsciously contributing to these very high beauty standards that the world is imposing upon us. Even if I like the content of these vloggers, the fact that they are hiding their real them behind a filter makes me not wanna watch their content. You are beautiful the way you are, and we appreciate your realness and openenss ❤ thank you❤

Loving the comments section about Botox and ageing. So many relatable thoughts. Thank you Cari for bringing it up the way you did. 💖 I only realised couple of years ago that l have what is called glabellar lines. I probably had them since mid twenties as my face is expressive, what l now like to call an actors face. But l just really didn’t care about details like that until l hit about 38. l think it was also a mix of lockdown and watching too many RU-vid videos around beauty and lifestyle. This made me try many products, facials and consider Botox. I have now come to accept my face and looks as it is, and mainly just use a moisturiser now. The best beauty tip is just care less about how you look and love who you are instead…oh and smile!!!😊

I turned 41 this year and have definitely noticed some changes in my face and some more white hairs. In my early 30s I thought I’d want to dye my hair but now I don’t really care as much. I think of actresses like Katharine Hepburn who just let themselves age and looked great. I have a lot of body image issues, so I’m trying to embrace and accept my aging face. I spent so much of my teens and twenties being so mean to my body that I’m working on being a bit more gentle and accepting.

Hi Cari 🙋‍♀️ I have crinkly eye smile 😄 I’m 37. Like with most insecurities I love them on other people. I love my husband’s wrinkles they really suit him, and I love seeing other people with crinkly eye smile too 🥰 Liking how they look on other people reminds me to love my own wrinkles.

Hi Cari! How are you? I love your "messy" vlogs, honesly I love watching your content. You always help me to get in a better mood. And about ageing is a process, and most of the time we are bombarded with messages about how to keep us young on the outside (by using procedures) when we should be focusing on getting our soul young and feel alive, like you did on your trip to Iceland. Of couse this is not easy, it takes a lot of inner work to get to this mental state but it can be done. Thank you for always show up, even if you are feeling all over the place, we truly appreciate it! Send you tons of love! Have a gorgeous day!

I've always struggled with my image and how others viewed me. Turning 30 this year definitely started to bring negative self image thoughts. I've started telling myself I am grateful for every wrinkle or just anything that happens to my body that signifies "aging" because it just means I've been blessed with another year to grow older 🙏

I'm 34, and I'm enjoying aging naturally. That being said, there are some mornings that I wake up, look in the mirror, and it seems like my face is different than it was the day before. Maybe there's a new gray hair, or I notice that one wrinkle between my eyebrows is deeper than it has been. But I'm to the point that I can notice without fixating. I don't know, I have a lot of friends that have done either Botox or fillers, and they have loved them, but I have to apply my go-to mentality: good for you, not for me. I'm happy that they have found something that makes them happier, more secure in themselves. That's amazing. But I know myself and I know that it would be a source of obsession for me. If you decide to do it, Cari, then good for you, but you are naturally very striking. I hope you don't come to a point that you feel like it's something you NEED, rather than something you want. It sounds like that little mental check-in you did with yourself was a very positive step! 💖

I'm 36 and by this point I couldn't be less interested in the way I look. I was bullied at school because of my looks, so I spent my teens and twenties worrying about it constantly (as you do), trying to use makeup (miserably failed), trying to lose weight (same effect, really), and by 28 I suddenly realized that I've been giving it so much attention I could have given literally anything else, and I was like okay, we're done. I know I'm aging, I can see it, but my friends, my dog and my family don't care, so why should I? When I look at the pictures of my favourite actors I genuinely love to see wrinkles and freckles (oh gods freckles!), and I don't understand people who say oh they've aged, they are not young and beautiful anymore. Well of course they've aged! Live them alone, they are perfect the way they are! As are you, by the way. It's okay to use botox, if you want to, to use makeup, to get facials, it's all good, as long as you do it for yourself, and it makes you happy. People are born for happiness, I think.

As a 31 year old I really appreciate the chat about aging. Anti-aging is so pervasive in social media and it's so hard to have a positive mindset about it. Well maybe not even a positive mindset just an 'it is what it is' mentality if that makes sense? There's nothing we can do to stop it (long term anyway) and it's an experience we all share no matter what.

I'm in my early 40s and was always told I looked young for my age. Not sure how much I internalized that without realizing, but since turning 40 I've thought about my face more than I ever have. For very similar reasons as you I don't want to get Botox, but I admit that my resolve is rocked from time to time. However, it is really cool to be slowly introduced to the lines and texture that are going to be part of me for the rest of my hopefully long life. It's like meeting myself, in a way.

Okay. So I’m in no place to be giving my opinions about botox and aging (I turned twenty like a few days ago) but people put such pressure on you about aging and turning thirty. Everything on the internet is telling you how “you should do this to look younger!” And “how to reduce wrinkles and fine lines” blah blah but it’s all ridiculous. Aging is such a beautiful thing, your smile lines and everything show how you’ve lived a happy life. You’re such a beautiful person that every time i look at you I admire how pretty and precious you are. You should of course always do whatever makes you the happiest with yourself! But i just hope you can see yourself the way i see you cause you’re literally perfect to me ❤️ i love seeing all the silly expressions you make and how you smile talking about the things you love or when you laugh out loud reading the most unhinged and bad books. 😂🙈 P.S. BTW..your face is absolutely beautiful as it is. Hope you never succumb to your negative thoughts. Internet/Social Media does make it harder to ignore these things especially I guess if you're someone who does show their face online so much (I don't..at all...and I'm not ugly..just very selfaware..)...AND you're living in Southkorea...As a turkish woman (cultures are very similar in a lot of ways)...I understand the pressure coming from around you. Live your life. Be happy. And continue showing us the world through your eyes. Love you

i'm 32 now and have plans to eventually get botox (some for medical purposes - migraines). personally i just appreciate that we live in a time where modern science can help us age in whatever way we want to, to some degree. i do think botox gets heavily overused at young ages these days, which is why i told myself i should at least wait until i'm in my 30's. and even now my rule is that during my 30's, i can only go once a year (rather than the much more frequent timelines they usually recommend). I do think non-invasive options like the one you did, are a preferable first step before resorting to botox.

THANK YOU for that conversation about botox and aging. Especially in this time when even the men in Hollywood are feeling the effects of weird beauty standards and getting surgeries, I think it's super important to talk about these things. I'm 25 and don't really take care of my skin (I'd want to just not able to lol) and I've been seeing changes in my undereye skin for a few years now. Personally I wouldn't do anything about it other than maybe skin care, but that's also influenced by the fact that I live in finland where it's really not that common to have plastic surgery or injections, and also just keeping in mind that everything I see online has been carefully selected and edited/filtered to look better.. I'm sure that in time I will likely be tempted to "stop" aging?? or whatever but I'm also just tired of the idea that we're somehow not allowed to age at all. Like that one celebrity said about anti-aging products, "I'm going to age regardless" :D i hope that society is going in a direction where beauty and youth are no longer synonyms and we can be allowed to have wrinkles on our faces again... We did it for stretch marks, we can do it for wrinkles too!!!

I am 39 and it usually shocks people when I say so. I have never had any kind of work done, I have attempted to follower beauty routines but I struggle to stick to them. While I do look young for my age, I do have terribly dark circles under my eyes. I usually cover it with concealer daily because if I don't people ask me if I am feeling OK. It kind of sucks because people look sickly or people give me the side eye (I could be wrong but it feels like they are assuming I am on drugs or something). Even my own mother would still ask if I am OK because of my dark eye circles. I would strongly consider a treatment that I knew would rid me of this issue even temporarily if it meant not dealing with that. I have also considered getting laser hair removal on my monobrow. I know I should just be more confident and just not worry about what people think but people have always bullied me or picked at something about my appearance. I just want to live my life without having to hear those kinds of comments. You have inspired me to hold my head up a little higher though.

I actually was at my peak in my mid thirties. Then i went through a trauma that has completely changed me. Couple that with hormonal shifting in my 40s, I look and feel the worst that I ever have. My family and friends who hadn't seen me in a long time would stare and ask wtf happened to my face. Everything changes and grows old. You are part of this Earth, and everything here has a cycle. If you have your health and your joy, that spirit always shines through regardless of your body's state. So, enjoy life and those around you, and you will always be beautuful.

I’m 32 tomorrow and I started noticing signs of aging about 6 years ago. I’ve thought about fillers etc, I’d also just like to puff up my top lip a little to even them out but on some level I welcome visible aging because with it comes respect I’ve been denied in the past as an adult woman with youthful features under 5 feet tall. I also feel like the procedures people get start to create a uniform appearance between aging people who have had the procedures if that makes sense and I want to maintain my authentic appearance.

How about a comment from somebody who has 70 years of texture on their face? I should correct that 74 years! To me, you’re looking at things in a completely positive and correct vision. If we focus on what we look like we don’t become better people on the inside. Looking back on my life I’ve done a horrendous things to my skin and started taking care of it at 65. Thanks to Korean skin care. I’ve come along way. I’m feeling much better about myself now than I did at any time before. Keep it up. You’re doing a great job.

I grew up spending a lot of time with her and I always enjoyed it so much, she would take me to her friends and sisters' houses for tea very often and I'd just eat some great food 😂 so I just hope to be able to become a kind old lady like them haha

Currently 33 and also living in South Korea. I completely understand where you are coming from. I struggle with body dysmorphia as well, especially being on the curvier side and being surrounded by super thin women who are my age and even older than me. I also have some redness to my skin and definitely don't have the "glass skin" effect Korean's seem to seek. I do struggle with it, but also not to the extreme of doing something like Botox to make it "better." I think being comfortable in your own skin is so important for your happiness, and I am trying really hard to achieve that here. I never had it in the US, either, so I can't blame it on my location so much (although I am surrounded by more beautiful/thin people here than I ever was in the US).

I can totally relate to your talk about age, I'm just 25 but yesterday discovered my second white/grey hair and I know it might just be from stress or it will take years to be fully grey but this doom of getting older was really unsettling, seeing the change in my looks that I always took as never changing (even tho you know it will change it's so different seeing it). I just don't want to go one day I love life so much and there''s so much to discover. It's a weird feeling of recognizing that you and others are getting older and that life will end one day, this wasn't really something I noticed much as a teen.

I'm 36 and I've always been struggling with my appearance (body, not face), since I was at elementary school. The only year in which I fully felt my body was appearing exactly in the way I was perceiving it was during 2020 and even if the World was upside down, I was so happy, so self-conscious,so fully focus on my well being and my mediation-workout-yoga practices. I perfectly understand what you mean: when I'm in vacation, especially in nature, I feel so fulfilled that I do not need anything, no mirrors, no make-up. This epiphany came to me while camping for 10days in Portugal, with old friends and new friends, surf, yoga, skateboarding and hammocks where to read all the time I wanted, and time was beating at the time of the sun and our hunger. I needed no make up, no mirrors, no clothes rather the ones I was wearing. I was so so so happy.

Thank you Cari for that aging talk :') I love watching all your videos and I think you're one of the most down to earth, chill, authentic people I'm following, your content genuinely brings me peace and inspiration. I agree that seeing people with skin texture, having little "flaws" calms me down so much, both irl and especially online, where everything is so filtered nowadays and then I look at the pores at my face and wonder if it's okay that I have them. Also, I'm 29 and even now usually when I tell people my age, they're like "omg really? I couldn't tell, you don't look like it" and I mean.... while I can see my own wrinkles forming, what am I supposed to look like at 29 haha? One more thing I agree with, going off social media most of the time, living mindfully in the moment with my loved ones, I don't worry as much anymore about aging, at least for now.
