In this video we show an old fashioned diablo cream separator in use at a traditional Irish Farmhouse. Filmed at Muckross Traditional Farms, Killarney Ireland, this video gives a great explanation of how the cream separator works and then shows the separator in action separating the cream from the milk.

Today is June 26, 2022. I remember using and washing these cream separators every morning. I see them now being used to plant flowers in. I wish I had one now. I sure miss the good old days. We worked hard but had fun doing it.

Exactly the one I have here in South Africa which belonged to my grandmother. Note that at starting to turn the handle you can hear the sound of a bell ringing. That bell must stop ringing otherwise you are turning too slow. Still in perfect condition and never been used the last 49years!!

This is the last item I need for my home dairy. I have milking equipment, butter churn, cheesemaking supplies & press etc... But I still need one of these. Very exciting to see how it goes together and works.

Thank you ma'am! I've seen this done many times since childhood but your clear, simple explanation of the process cleared up much I was hazy about. Well done. Col, NZ

Still run an old separator like this, the new ones don't have as a thick cream.

Not at all! Depending on the model you could easily cream up to 60 litres per hour which is right on par with many of the electric models of a similar size. Once you've got the engine running you won't even break a sweat to keep it going. Truly amazing engineering!

@@mariussmuts3153 yes, I can do 40 liters in our old one in 8 minutes and 5 mins in the new farmland milky the older separator has more skimmers and gives a thicker dollop cream
