SEPTA hosted a welcoming of the PCC cars that were sidelined for an extensive rebuilt & overhaul process back in 2019. The CEO & GM Leslie Richards acknowledged the Woodland Shop employees for their hard work and dedication for re-manufacturing parts that’s not built anymore to bring back these 77-year old streetcars. Due to their 3rd rebuilt, they’re now called PCC III and all 18 cars will be back and ready after an extensive overhaul by as late as 2030 or sooner. 8 of these have returned into service as of Sunday, June 16th, aka Father’s Day, on route 15. They will only run on the full line from Port Richmond loop (Richmond & Westmoreland) to Haddington (63rd & Girard) while bus service will serve Frankford & Delaware (Sugar House Casino).
