Definitely need more security. Ain't fair when normal citizens gotta pay while assholes commit fare evasion. Absolutely needs more clean septa vehicles. I've seen way too many needles on trains. Edit: Also, stations like Walnut-Locust, with how big it is, getting assaulted by someone is a definite means to actually add more fucking security. There are too many fucking loiterers, homeless, and drug users on the fare level of the station, and it absolutely is nerve-racking.
I'd agree. Look in the trackbed of Tasker Morris. I saw so many needles in there. And observed a man shitting on the platform while injecting heroin or some other IV drugs.
Septa has allowed the issues to grow. They have no police or guards at most stations. Riding the nite owl shuttle is brutal. It's crowded most of the time, most of passengers don't pay, take up seats with their bags, since I pay I stand because there's no seats or something is spilled or food on it. Panhandling is a big issue too. To say the least I don't feel as safe as I have in the past
During Covid, I watched a septa cleaning crew pose for pictures acting as if they were wiping benches, while another septa worker took the photo. They then moved to another bench and posed again.
Its SEPTAs fault they designed a turnstyle with a gap big enough for the bars to turn and get through. Put jump resistant bars and close the gaps between the gates.
The widespread Drug Use on the El isnt just a SEPTA problem. It's a city problem considering the issues at Frankford and Kensington. The city needs to address that. If they do it wl trickle down to the El. Something needs to be done. I shouldn't be the one removing needles from train cars so other people and I can safely sit the fuck down.
I hardly see septa police. Sure you may see them at the major hubs. See them at Frankfort terminal but may not see another until somewhere downtown. They need to be more flexible and show their faces more, at random place and times.
The cameras is not there ( Septa) for crimes it’s there for the employees and any Septa rule violations we may commit while at work. They put the cameras in back in 2002 after 911 the government send Septa millions of dollars for the cameras. One thing I can say as a shop steward, Septa has done a great job using the cameras against its front line employees. 🧐
Why can't they arrest people that don't pay the fine? If I got a ticket, and didn't pay for it, I would be arrested, it should be the same for people that don't pay train fair skipping tickets

I don't have any experience on the SEPTA system, but I spent a large portion of my youth utilizing the MTA in New York City, it's all about your own aura, know how to carry yourself and no one will mess with you. 😎

WHAT IS going on with the SUBWAY? I got on the train three times and that's it for me. 1.) There on the train smoking like there at a bar and I've never been to one. 2.) Folks hopping over the turn style like there supposed to. 3.) High schoolers hollering out drug sales (hollering) 4.) Everybody talking to their self. 5.) Folks sitting on the train both feet up on the chairs talking at the top of their lungs on the phone .........but no ones on the other line. 6.) Septa workers DJ ing ...? ...in the turn style booth??.. ( I'm not joking) 7.) You ask the Septa workers for help, they don't know anything. 8.) Drug needles and everything on the train The homeless people even got up and left. What in the world????? Something is wrong on the Orange Line. I don't know what it is.
Lock the ADA gates at the center city regional rail stations and have the Key card ambassadors present not just during the day, but at night until the trains stop running! Easy just use broken windows policy . Use turnstiles like I’m the UK that’s full body. Have cops on foot in major areas of crime. Better lighting and trains and modernization

We keep evading the real problem...it is cultural. Until our ways as a culture changes, this will keep going on. Parents train their kids certain ways are acceptable. Groups of parents from different cultures train their children that these ways are acceptable. They are encouraged to be violent, or disrespectful...it is cultural.
Crime on the Market Frankford line during the morning rush hour @ 52nd Street. 2 recent shootings on the Broad street line. One @ Walnut Locust and Snyder station.
Remove the "LEANERS" at stations. They violate the Americans with Disabilities Act. If 69th street station is open a bathroom must be kept open. Actually track the 101 and 102 trolleys. There is no reason you can not do this in 2022. When you call customer service have them give up to date info not just read the scheduled time for the canceled trolley.
The SEPTA app is fairly decent when it come to tracking the 101 & 102 Trolleys, as long as SEPTA is doing their end of the bargain. As for the "leaners", I am familiar with the 69th Street area, and they were put in to replace the benches that were on the platforms, practically as a deterrent against loitering by the homeless (loitering being a summary offense in Upper Darby Township). While there was an emergency homeless shelter that was located nearby, that shelter was closed due to COVID, community opposition (it was located near the township building, H-Mart, Post Office, and several "mom & pop" stores and daycares), and a new strategy put in place by Delaware County to prevent homelessness to begin with, and if homeless (and if qualified), to be rehoused using the Rapid Rehousing program. What you do see out there now are the hard-core homeless and that needs to be addressed, mainly through involuntary committal and court-ordered supervision and treatment, and that requires action by Harrisburg, and not through shutting down mental hospitals, but by reopening Norristown State Hospital, via transfer of the Forensic Unit to SCI Graterford and placing them into the restrictive housing unit.

You need to appoint top level supervisors from a higher income and social background who will be appropriately shocked at what they see instead of the low class no class workers and supervisors who see chaos as normal and a acceptable.part of life. Call in Mrs Drysdale.

Yeah, I am surprised that I saw video of search and easy thing to hop, I was in the belief that those were out of commission because of these faults, I would work surprised to see that those honor based still exist
Also septa doesn't just run in Philadelphia. It runs through 7 surrounding counties. I live in delaware county which is 10 mins from Philly. There are only turn styles in SOME areas of the city and that's it. There are none is the counties
Turnstiles are great, but they cannot be utilized on busses, trolleys or trains that allow customers direct access. Bus drivers are routinely assaulted. This has become a larger problem relating to the city and the influx of crime surrounding the city. The City needs to acknowledge there is a problem with crime and implement policies to help eliminate crime on transportation systems.
