The style for all commercials back then were completely different from today. Very cheesy but also very warm, sincere and innocent. I also love how the voiceovers sound, and the trend in singing within the commercials. Wow they all seem so happy go lucky. Really shows the simplicity of the 80s.
OpenRoadStar676 I guess everybody's opinion is different, but I was 23 in 1985, in Jacksonville, FL and I can tell you without a doubt, the atmosphere was radically different than now. In the way that you describe, relaxed and easier. A certain kind of innocence and cheerfulness. It's hard to describe.
I was 14. It was a much more optimistic time. You’re right, it’s hard to describe. There was a sense that anything was possible, that the future could be anything, and all you had to do was find a way to grab it. Oddly, that turned out to be true for a lot of people. It’s all about the attitude I guess.
This is a wonderful television commercial for new L'eggs Just My Size from September 15, 1985. An all-new slogan for Just My Size was "She's got L'eggs." Another wonderful television commercial for Clairol's Loving Care from September 15, 1985. An all-new slogan was "Gray hair or Loving Care." They're very cool!
I wish I could go back in time when times were more respectful/ no Facebook / kids had more respect not these entitled additude brats thanks for sharing the memories
You and me both in the music as well can't even turn on the radio in the car what is this music? Such simpler times no we have to wear masks see what's next to be cancelled this summer listen to how Corona cases are going up I'm so tired of this f****** world
The thing that stands out is tge sincerity. Today, every commercial has to feature some "wacky" and neurotic attempt at humor. As if the highest aspiration in life is to be the butt of a cringeworthy joke.
I love retro tv , games, music, commercials. I'm going to be 50 in a month. I appreciate and am reminded of wholesome, goodhearted , world perspective. It's a time capsule . I turned 14 two days before this original air date. This represents how most citizens in America wanted to live and behave. A reflection of Moral compass we valued . Being honorable and wanting better for yourself and others. Before SELFIE culture permeates . It crept insidiously. The commercials would influence the masses because we cared about what other people thought . Ads today even reflect how consuming the product makes you and yours better or better off than others. We can afford it , You cannot. Pseudo wealth and staus . I'm claiming the cliched The Good Life of yesterday. Back in my day kinda thing. I heard it also from my elders. I listened. But never understood till now. I was a know it all just like the young are today. I pray for our country and culture. God help us all.
Are you referring to the station KYW ? Because to my knowledge, stations call letter's that start with a K are west of the Mississippi, and one's that are East start with W ? I was told that at a Broadcasting school i went to in Hollywood, lol So who know's
Don't you find it funny that these witches that claim a celebrity assaulted them wait years and years to speak up ...makes one think they are lying to get their names in the public eye..
15:43 "It helps keep him home for breakfast" I guess if she didn't serve donuts, he would have his breakfasts with some other woman (or family)? A "breakfast" (or "donut") affair, LOL
Who would have thought that thirty-five years later we would be cutting out the old shows to watch the commercials. I wish I could tell me in 1985 to just leave them in.
18:55 Nowadays (In March/April 2020), Marilyn Krug would be hoarding Charmin because of the Corona-virus. :( That reminds me--I can't find Charmin in stores nowadays, so I'm wondering if Quilted Northern (20:55) is still for sale somewhere? Or Cottonelle (21:57)? (Lots of "TP" ads in this video, never thought they'd seem so relevant!)
Wow! That’s crazy! I never knew that commercials were that different back then. 14 years before I was born and plus the fact that commercials now in my lifetime are very boring compared to the commercials from back then! More creative than they are now, in my opinion!
Yup, Everything was long format back then because way more people watched "free to air" broadcast than today. Even superstars like Michael Jackson and Madonna made Pepsi ads because of the acclaim.
4:15 Apparently this is the closing credits for a Silver Spoons episode (based on the info provided under the video)? I guess Whitney Houston was a guest-star in that episode (4:20).
13:03 The newscaster got cut off: "The Philadelphia minister...is organizing a massive (?)" I guess we'll never know what "massive" thing he organized... :(
Bahhh--I don't want "squeezable" jelly, which is probably more like jam than it is like real jelly... I want the real deal--in a normal jar, requiring a knife or spoon to get it out--to make my PB & J's with!
I miss those SFM holiday movie specials, but I have Turner classic movies, and there's no commercials, so I'm good. Funny seeing Orville Reddenbaker, he's probably been dead for many yrs now.
@@lamarravery4094 So you can have plenty of premium cable like Time Warner based CNN, TBS, TNT and TCM to get these stations between 1997 and today. Anytime. Anywhere. Day or Night.
The techie people listed in the SIlver Spoons credits were the same as Who's The Boss, which taped at ABC starting with the second season. Seems as though Silver Spoons was taping at ABC despite airing on NBC. Silver Spoons was on at 10AM in reruns(EST) on NBC daytime from 4/26/85-9/20/85.
those people don't work for a network, they are a production company. TV shows are made by a production company and then the different networks buy them.
@@TMcConnaughhay But shows airing on one network have taped at other network facilities before. Welcome Back Kotter taped at NBC Burbank for its first year or so despite airing on ABC, for example.
Same thing it happens on "Double Trouble" when it finally moved from NBC to USA with a fresh new look, style and attitude. Plus, fresh new cast/crew members as well as all-new episodes beginning in September 20, 1985 and continues until June 23, 1989. Taped at Sunset Gower Studios, Hollywood and aired on USA Late Night. Produced by ELP Communications and distributed by Coumbia Pictures Television Distribution, a SPE Company.
The ID was fantastic ... and Danny Dark did a great job in doing the voiceovers for it. Did KYW do a local version of NBC's "Let's All Be There" campaign back then?
Well KYW at that time was a NBC affiliate. In 1985, RCA placed the whole group for sale. Westinghouse Electric Corp. and General Electric Co. (who were RCA's investors in the 1920s) were in final talks to obtain the RCA assets, and announced that subsequently in December, General Electric bought out RCA, making KCNC a NBC O&O (the network still don't have a O&O until 10 years later when CBS traded WCAU to NBC for the O&Os KUTV and KCNC). Had Westinghouse got the bid for RCA instead of GE, then KYW would have became a network O&O again nearly 21 years after the 1956 swap was reversed in 1965.
These we're the days ! ! ! And nobody would've looked for me if I ever went missing but I'm so thankful that my CREATOR cared for me because I made it to 46 year's old and it was based on my street wisdom and that I have my CREATOR JESUS CHRIST TO BE THANKFUL FOR WATCHING OVER THE LITTLE BOY THAT BECAME A OLD MAN !!! PRAISE OUR SAVIOR CHRIST Forever more ! ! !
New from L'eggs: L'eggs Tights lets you exercise your options. Now available in a wide range of styles and colors. For comfort and control that lasts all day. She's got L'eggs. Ask for it by name. In stores now.
The cute Mc Donald's commercial reminds me of the episode of "Bewitched" in which Tabitha was jealous of baby Adam....if Darrin would have taken her to Mc Donald's, she may not have twitched up her own personal mommy!
You mean there was a kid after Tabitha?? Did Darrin deny being the father, and Samantha had to take him on the Maury Povich show for a paternity test?! There's so much of "Bewitched" that I don't remember. ;)
28:42 the iconic voice of W.B. Brydon for Oxy 10. 33:23 The obligatory Peter Thomas voice over. 9:18 "You sweet talker Betty Crocker" 😉 9:46 Ralph Bell voiced dozens of national commercials.
Damn even as "recently" as the 80s, inflation was way less. 4 yogurt cups for under a dollar? That's freaking outrageous, I have to pay at least 1.50$ for one cup today. I'm sure with the even more recent inflation spike they're like 2-3$ each now. I wouldn't know cause I haven't gone to the store in like a week. I'm just eating stuff i have on hand lol
Sike! @ 0:09 Wow, girls know how to pump gas? I saw my dog do this once out in the back yard... @ 3:57 What if the large Mr. Brawny decides to "Tea Bag"? @ 24:24 Dude, is that Val Kilmer @ 30:38 ? (giggity)! @ 37:19
37:19 Maybe I'm wrong, but I think they're wearing the wrong type of clothing for driving those monster trucks. ;) P.S. "Quagmire on Family Guy" reference noted.
