My latest 5 star is The Haar by David Sodergren, funny and sentimental with an amazing 84 year old protagonist and some great vicious scenes of horror. Just wonderful.
I looooooved Delicate Condition! I also loved We Hear voices by Evie Green! I'm currently FINALLY reading the House on Needless Street too which....is weird....but I'm digging it so far!
Nice! I really loved Needless street! Though I haven’t loved any of her books since that one. I hadn’t heard of the Evie Green. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks!
@@ReadingWryly I did like Sundial but I haven't gotten into Looking Glass Sound or Little Eve! We Hear Voices is a creepy kid story....I'm all about creepy kids 😂😂😂
Delicate Condition is on my TBR shelf. Thanks for the recommendation. I believe I have read Gerald’s Game 20 or so years ago, and I liked it well. The Netflix adaptation I didn’t manage to finish it before, thanks to you, I will now. Here’s my recommendation to you, should you care to check it: “Dolores Claiborne” by Stephen King. It was written about the same time of Gerald’s Game. The Solar eclipse that happened in Gerald’s Game is the same in Dolores. Some used to call it both sister books. The adaptation was really good. Cathy Bates was great.
I’ve heard that there is a connection with the eclipse. I didn’t realize Kathy Bates was in that adaptation though. She’s amazing, such an icon! Thanks.
I know Kristin Hannah is good, just based on reviews I’ve heard. But I can’t make myself pick up one of her books for some reason. Maybe that I know I’m going to cry going into it? Idk. But I’m glad you enjoyed it. Happy reading! ❤️🙌🏻
My last favorite 5 star read was None of This is True by Lisa Jewell. I just watched the first episode of American Horror Story Delicate but I didn't know it was based on the book. I have the book from Libby so I am going to read it before I watch any more of the show. Love your reading vlogs! 🏡
I need to read the new Lisa Jewell! I keep hearing good things and it has the podcast trope that I love. I think that’s a good idea to read it first. The book is better…so far at least.
🏠 My favorite of the month so far and maybe even the year is Strange Sally Diamond! I picked it up immediately after your last review and absolutely loved it! I just downloaded Dear Child! Great recommendations!❤
Literally just finished Delicate Condition yesterday. I highly recommend UNLESS you’re pregnant or try to get pregnant. In that case, maybe avoid for now ❤
I watched the Netflix series Dear child a few weeks ago and now I was surprised to find that it was adapted from a book! The German series is a really great one to watch and very suspenseful as well. I was horrified by the act of the perpetrator. It was gruesome. Also, I didn't like the girl (Hanna, righ?) - she was very creepy. Delicate condition is such a great book. I have never been pregnant, but when reading this book, I can feel the horror of pregnancy and the feeling coming from it. Cheers to the author who can portray so realistically how pregnancy feels like in real life. Good bad girl to me is a little above average. I really had difficulty in grasping what was happening in this book. The homicide case is not the main thing in the plot, rather just the background for the main plot to happen. The relationship between all the characters are very hard to imagine, it's only later in the book - near the end of the book - that I truly understand everything. The twist is very good, but I just rate it 3.5 because of the way the author wants to complicate the story.
That all makes sense, your logic is sound. You’re also right in pointing out that the murder in Good Bad Girl was secondary and used to move the plot forward. Good point.
🏠 I watched the adaptation of Dear Child before I realized it was based on a book and really enjoyed it. My reading has slowed down a bit and haven’t had any recent 5 stars but finally read Creep by Jennifer Hillier and it was a 4! Really, really liked it. I’m about 60% into The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires and…..unpopular opinion, I’m not loving it. It’s good but not what I was expecting with all the hype.
Southern Bookclub was a “moment” in my reading journey. I initially hated it. It triggered me so much! But I struggled with the idea that the gaslighting was intentional and trying to make a point. I like it more upon reflection than I did with my actual reading experience.
It’s a term for the outdated practice of adding an extra stitch when repairing a tear or episiotomy after labor, making things smaller… for the sake of the husband. Sometimes done without even asking.
I didn't realize that the adaptation that was happening with Delicate Condition was AHS-related! Dangit. Hm. Do I watch or not? Normally I wouldn't agonize over it, but I'd heard that Kim Kardashian was somehow in this season, and I've managed to live a Kardashian-free life up until now...!
lol. My life is also Kardashian free. Or WAS I suppose, since I’ve watched the new AHS. I think the book is better TBH. However, Kim’s acting skills were better than I expected. So take that for what you will.
