Oh shit! I am listening to the Rabbits podcast right now...there's a book??? Damn, I might have to just skip the rest of the podcast and read it instead! Also I am so glad to hear that I am not the only person who does not crave pasta. Not trying to pick any fights here, but there are so many other superior carbs, ha! Anyway, September House. I really loved it. although I had forgotten much of the plot until just now. I remember thinking that the haunted house metaphor and those abusive behaviors/dynamics felt a little heavy-handed and now I am not sure why I thought that, especially since I have been in that situation myself. Minus the haunted house, but yeah, the following the rules, the walking on eggshells, all of that. Maybe the thing was it hit *too* close to home for me. P.S. I loved your two camera set up, I thought it was really different and very cool!
Yes, there’s a book! How’s the podcast? I wonder which is the preferred way to consume them, podcast first, or book first? lol. Exactly (with the pasta) if I’m going to eat carbs let it be fried! 😋 I can understand how the abusive behaviors etc in September House could have felt heavy-handed, for sure. There’s a quality to the story though that feels almost impossible to adequately articulate. I can’t put my finger on why it feels so different.
I have been suffering through the first 50 pages of The September House 😂 I am so happy there's a little more deepness to it bc I almost dnf'd before watching this but now im giving it to the halfway mark lol 🙃
I love seeing different angles of your house (not to be weird!!)- it’s so bright, stylish, energetic but still so cozy? It feels like an artist studio. I’m obsessed with the arches to your dining space or whatever. What a cute place. I also agree with another commenter that it was a great idea to pop up your ratings/bullet summaries of read books! I’m not usually into “book shopping vlogs” but your addition of that pop up in the edit was way more fun

i grew up in Dallas and the half price books there has RUINED me. we have an okay one where I live now but there's something about that GIANT one on NW highway that just hits different.

oh! another recent read.. a thriller set on an island with celebrities.. The Club by Ellery Lloyd. 🏝 I'd imagine if people were disappointed in The Fury by Alex Michaelides, they may like this one... and no "breaking the 4th wall BS" 😊
I'm curious about Long Weekend, I'll have to check it out! For an unsettling island-set thriller, I'd recommend the new release Look in the Mirror by Catherine Steadman... don't read the synopsis, go in blind! 😳 though I will say... set in a lavish house in the British Virgin Islands 🏝
I read Made For You recently ... not sure why they put a spoiler right on the front of the book.. it says "she was made for him.... now he's dead,".. or something like that.. but halfway through the book he's still only missing! they should have put "...now he's missing" on the front. Nit-picky maybe but it bothers me lol
I loved The September House. Not what I was expecting. I believe the author is a psychologist .. or at least studied psych? I can tell. I annotated so much of that book. My only critique is that a certain line/phrase was said twice, but I'm not sure if it was an accident or intentional .. like if it was repeated later for emphasis.
Rewatch cause I forgot and was out and about. I agreed with what y’all had to say. I originally read this on my kindle and gave it 3 stars years ago. This time I found a 1972 copy, love the cover, and read along with the audio. 5 stars. I found I caught a lot of little things this round that I had missed before. I also really liked the added Afterward commentary.
You should try The Legend of Hell House by Richard Matteson. Not only did he write this classic, but he also wrote for Broadway and the book Somewhere in Time. Talk about well versed.
I guarantee you have not read the YA Dystopian novel Chaos Stirs - Book 1 of The Young Inevitables by J.H. Royal. I'd love if you'd consider giving it a shot. It's a free eBook most everywhere - or I can ship you a copy (I've just started getting them in) I have set it as YA Dystopian as that was always my most sought after type of read when I was that age, but my demographics are showing 50/50 fm/m and an average age in the 40s. But I'm still being told it's YA. An excellent presentation - my vote for F451
🤣 this proves reading is subjective .... I skimmed the hell out of the Ice Planet Barberians it still menaged to read the big plot points like kidnapping, rape, she looks for help alone, cunilingus, AI cave....much easyer if I say I gave it 1✨️. What is lower than "takes it not serious" called.... If you want🌶 HOT🌶 but characters that comunicate read please Richter Scale by Dalia Davies! That one is also freezing snowy, dripping good, hot sex, has worldbuilding, some triller aspect...I can't wait for the second book.
Wenn I looked up Radiance few months ago so I could find reviews to compare to my feeling and thoughts...I found just few....so I am very happy that you liked the book. I am basicly thinking that no one can not like this book...if ony they would read it ✨️☺️✨️

Oooh I listened to Whalefall a week ago and I cannot stop thinking about it!! I loved the connection Jay formed with that one thing…reminded me of Wilson in Castaway the movie with Tom Hanks.

I also enjoyed the Red Dragon movie. Also, if you’ve never watched the tv show Hannibal, I implore you to do so. It’s SO SO good. The first season is actually a prequel to the books.
Oh! Good to know. That makes sense that they would make a prequel. I thought it was odd that the book started after all of the Hannibal stuff went down. I guess Harris wasn’t anticipating Lecter to be as popular as he became?
Mads Mikkelsen’s Hannibal is very different than Hopkins but really good as well. I also forgot to shout out Manhunter which is the OG movie remake of Red Dragon. William Petersen (from the original CSI) is Will and Brian Cox (the dad from succession) is Hannibal. Not artistic like the other versions (Hannibal is actually a fairly small part) but a fun 80s time. Anyway…enough of that. Hope you have a wonderful reading month in August!
