Tyland's line about how the battle between the Brackens and the Blackwoods was so devastating on both sides that he doesn't know if it can be called a victory is fantastic foreshadowing
Viserys isn't the cause. If Otto respected Viserys' claiming Rhaenyra as his heir, then we wouldn't be here. Otto is everything he counseled Viserys that Daemon would be.
@@tyedrichill8097It was Otto who proposed the only good solution, marrying Aegon to Rhaenyra, but Viserys did not listen. Viserys is not the only cause, but he was one of them and you just can't deny it.
Riverlands is always the kingdom that suffers the most when there is war. After the Dance, there was only scorched earth, orphans and widows. It is a miracle that the Tully have dominated without problem for centuries
From what I remember, it seems their vassals usually fare badly, but they themselves are usually fine, War of the Five Kings being the exception. They don't really seem to do much themselves. Frankly, they're kind of a waste of a House to me.
That’s mostly House Tully joined a little late during the war, whereas all their vassals have been picking sides from the start. Thus when when the dragons arrived, everyone who picked a side ended up getting an angry visit from the opposing dragon. And just like that, all the meddling vessels could no longer oppose House Tully, because they were all too weak to do so.
In Cole's view, Cole loves Aegon like his own child from when he trained the princes for decade till the moment he put the crown on Aegon. So after not be able to protect him in the dragon's fight, he felt into the big depressed and traumatized.
0:00 to 0:20 Props to Fabien Frankel for his performance as a man who suddenly finds his new responsibilities weighing down him but cannot afford to display weakness. Poor pitiful Criston Cole has no idea how in over his head he really is or how he is on the path to his own self-destruction. As much as most of the fandom hate Criston Cole, I feel more saddened for his inevitable fate at the Butcher's Ball.
@@Mana-xd2tp I bet that line is actually an embellishment created by the maesters for drama in FIRE AND BLOOD. Or it was only said after the Butcher’s Ball upon Criston Cole’s corpse, not before.
This may be my favorite scene in the series so far. Actual strategic planning. Cole completely confident and trying to prove himself sparring with Allicent but still concerned with how dragon warfare will endanger the king.
Seconded. But what I like is that it also shows something GoT didn't get to show. The council members are all scholars and scemers. They don't know how to militarize. On the other hand Aemond is being decisive as king. Kudos for that.
And he knows how out of his depth he is with the political infighting with the small council, so he volunteers to do one of the duties of the Hand he’s most comfortable with: leading armies in the field.
That's why Aegon hired him, he was tired of Otto's diplomacy and schemes. He wanted a Hand who's good at war. Of course, the show has butchered Criston Cole and the gray conflict between Blacks and Greens so who knows how that goes.
@@masterplokoon8803 Tyland did go out his way to spare his life, and made sure he was confined in a comfortable room. I always imagined this as some kind of friendship.
It's crazy how these books turn out! I cant wait to see how Tyland and Orwyle go through their steamy romance, or Alicent grows jealous of them or when she poisons both them and Cole and marries Aemond for power. Season 3 is going to be lit.
@@nialencapefet5154 he did not go out of his way to spare him, the realm was in chaos, there was more important crap to do and they didn't even had an executioner (King's justice) available at the time.
@@masterplokoon8803 Yes, but he clearly found an excuse to let him live as long and as comfortably as possible. He left the position vacant for this exact reason.
@@cazyjohn2005 I don't think so, honestly Jaimie and Criston are similar: excellent warriors and great leadership skills in battle, but not very good at politics.
@@cazyjohn2005they are even at best. But Jaime isn't better than Cole. Or smarter. They are fairly equal all around. Cole is a better sword handler, but that could be because the actor actually has a specialty in swords.
Criston Cole is not the worst choice for hand he did bring the crowlands to heel with aemonds help I do like the fact he leaves the capital right after he becomes hand still wondering whats going on between him and alicient according to the book they are never supposed to see each other again so I expected a more dramatic goodbye.
The only interesting character in season 2 to be honest. And I think he's the good one. Rhaenyra was dumb to f him. He was absolutely loyal to her, until she decided to have a f***buddy.
Right before that they showed the twins being buried. It goes straight to the shot of us looking up to Cole (as if from the grave.) And his servant says “They’ll be waiting.” Indicating the small council, of course, but I think the direction was intentional.
2:40 He laughs. He ordered Arryk to go on a suicide mission out of guilt and frustration at his own failure to protect the Prince, now the twins are dead, and now he just laughs. I've seen people defend Criston Cole so much even after Season 1 ended, even after he killed Beesbury and Joffrey. I really hope they change their minds after this, at least.
@@SachinKahandal-t4p that is not true, George never said that and only someone who never read the books would say that. The only maester perspective in the book actually heavily favours Rhaenyra since the guy was trying to get in her son's good graces.
@@SachinKahandal-t4p So you're saying the maesters made up a few people, messed up with the dates, tried to paint Daemon in a better light, changed the order of events entirely and the race of an entire key house, and all of this was in the Hightowers' perspective?
Is so funny to me that they can't waste any moment kf advantage in this war but the king found time to order from a goldsmith a personalised golden hands chain for Cole. They had these things ready for months at least. There is no way that they made all those flags and green uniforms since Viserys died. Otto went to Dragonstone on a boat with green sails with a golden dragon. There wouldn't be enough time for the dye to dry
I've never read any books... is there any truth to that? Obviously he can ride a dragon, so he isn't a total scrub. But is he known as a good warrior in the books?
@@patrick4662 Fact he can bond with dragon is just cause his family history and he get egg to his cradle so no skill there. He technicly get sword lessons so he could easily defeat us in combat but he´s not perticulary great.
His son was brutally murdered and when we reach our lowest point we are open to the greatest change. His bond with Sunfyre is one of the strongest dragon and dragon rider bonds at this time and he was trained by Criston Cole, in a one vs one he wipes Rhaenyra.
Yeah! This is what inconsistency and a bunch of writers who, every single one have a different point of view and a opinion about a character do to a story.
@@masterplokoon8803isn’t this the same guy last season who was begging his brother to let him escape to avoid being king😭 bro was avoiding any type of responsibility like the plague also he’s literally just a puppet you’ll come to find out aegon doesn’t have any say in his own kingdom
His golden necklace on his armor showing his status as hand if the king looks cool. But imagine if he angers the king and gets demoted... They just rip his armor off of him? Lmao
Useless? Yeah midnyra the r*pist definitely is shorty. 💯💯 Criston Brought The Crownlands To It's Knees & helped inflict the loss of a dragon & it's rider with his schemes shorty💯💯 Criston > p*do r*pist daemon & midnyra the r*pist that you like shorty💯💯
Alicent Hightower's concerns and criticisms of Criston Cole's risky strategy to quickly subdue the Riverlands is quite reminiscent of the real-life problems Russia faced in its hasty invasion of Ukraine in February thru April 2022.
