Serato DJ - Cheap Alternative To The Rane Twelve? 

I've been using these since they came out. I wouldn't trade up because they're built solid as a rock. Has everything I need. I dont beat match or press mad buttons. I go back and forth mixing, scratching, and blending just like the old days when I had turntables.

I used to own a pair of V7s. They were rock solid

Why would you leave the background music playing over the demo part?

I prefer the denon sc3900 with the 9” vinyl platter. They work wonders!

Denon, Rane & Numark are ALL the same company! The Rane incorporated the Numark Direct drive digital platter from the V7 NS7 etc. when the company's merged.

they need to bring out an updated V7 .These things were well ahead of their time.Its amazing

Brought mine for 200 Australian, got an akai amx for 150.... Had the denon 3700 and 3900 , they don't come close, first of all they aren't natively supported, you need to buy serato dj pro, the efx on HID mode work post fader especially with a serato mixer, no need for rca cables, Has looping auto and manual, browsing controls 5 cue points. The one thing the denons had was a bigger platter... don't get me wrong they were good , just not as good.

Numark should release an updated version of the v7 -> v7iii. Also Rane should release a TEN

copped one of these last year for $100. mainly use it for small gigs along with the vestax 06.

Had 4 v7's for years...never let me down...excellent kit..only thing missing is 33/45 button and more cue points.

I think a motorized platter the size of a 45 vinyl record (7 inches) is a genius idea when emulating a turntable & vinyl setup but in a smaller, lighter and more portable style and it's still the size of real vinyl records! :) If you can't emulate a platter for 12" vinyl because of the size & weight then the most logical smaller alternative is to emulate a platter for 7" vinyl records, anything smaller kind of feels like a toy, even on good controllers! I think 7" platters should be the industry standard size for jog wheels on professional controllers, whether they're motorized or not... 7 inches is a perfect size and also about the same size as the platter on a professional CDJ... so both the vinyl enthusiasts and the CDJ enthusiasts would end up happy with 7 inches... so would most girls! Lol :D

The Rane 12 should have a plug in module to add tonearm for that price. For a motor, a speed controller and a midi board it is insultingly expensive for a tomy toy. Phase for future control platforms.

The best alternative to Rane 12 is the Denon Dns 3700/3900.

I've had a pair of V7's for years mated to a Denon DN-X 600 mixer. Bought them in a flight case 2nd hand for £400 (around $550) for the whole lot.. Only got them to do the occasional private party where I didn't want to take my turntables, and because they support Serato out of the box.. I'm retired now, but still use them regularly if I'm not playing vinyl.. They're built like blocks of granite..

Sadly... Numark and Serato have recently discontinued support for these, the ns7 and ns7ll... smdh I thought for sure this was a no brainer when numark dropped the $500.00 scratch mixer.

OK, so it turns out that the newest version is Serato no longer supports numark V7. You have to use an older version of Serato? If I’m not mistaken, the version that supports, V7 does not allow you to play laptop speakers which I need enable so I can play through Bluetooth speaker.

Serato dj doesn’t allow you to use your v7s no more with a newer laptop Im running Big Sur and it does not let me load up my v7s even if I switch to a older version of serato any suggestions I also am using the Numark scratch mixer with the v7s the drivers don’t work for Big Sur any way around it or different hook up

Not compatibility with Catalina or early. #NUMARK not updated the driver. My NS 7 go to the trash, thank #NUMARK !!! 😡

They only make the Ns7 models up to 3 not a 4 yet but I would love to see if they do make a 4

Funny thing. I was looking to buy the Rane 12 MK2, but $1800 for the pair was outrageous to me. I use to own 2 V7s and in 2019 I sold them both for $650. I was looking at eBay recently and found a pair in better condition then the ones I sold. I scooped them up for $500. These I'm keeping.

Did you connect the v7 to your rane mixer via USB or did you use the rca?

I’m using the ns7 3 and it’s a great controller I’m set on getting the rane 12 & 72 the mixer is incredible and the 12’s in my mind are turntables without a needle

I’ve had ns7 I have v7’s the minute I seen the rane 12’s I already knew it was a rebranding of old technology. The Rane name sells! Numark not so much. My question is how did you hook this setup up. Did you plug the v7’s in the back of the 72 or directly into your computer? Was it hard to set up or was it plug and play? 2 x v7’s x 1 Rane 72 = 3 sound cards. It that create any trouble? Plz let me know. I have two V7’s and I’m looking into getting the 72. (Or make a video on the set up no one has one yet)

I currently use a Pioneer DDJ-SR2. Would I be able to connect a V7 to Serato DJ Pro and use my SR2 as a traditional mixer?

Don't forget that you have looprolls on the hot loops if you use the shift button! Also slip mode is enabled if you hit the Motor button on and off. Shift plus the motor button activates/ deactivated the motorized platter. I noticed you talked about the effects. There is a lot more effect functionality using the shift button as well.

So how would you hook it up with your 72 so SDJ doesn't recognize it as the main sound card and just uses it for control? Still would rather use the 72 as the "main" soundcard and use the controls on that and just have the V7 for platter use and pitch.

Sorry, but this not the same. For me Twelve is like playing on Serato with the same feelings but a little bit better cause i don't have any troubleshoots

If you are on a budget and lets say like me you got a rane 12 because your numark mixtrack pro fx was great but you wana scratch but you found out you need a 4 deck controller to to it and a mixer not a 2 deck controller and you have to buy another controller by default,,, i'm right handed so it's only important for me to have the 12 in deck on my left hand side a 7in deck on my right hand side would be just perfect so thank you dude you are a lifesaver

i suspect that later models of the rane 12 will get ethernets but companies hold back on features so they can sell new product.Pioneer would make little changes to its CDJ range for a while and then there would be a large change and then its back to little changes for a few years.I would like there to be a variety of platter controllers out there like there are turntables with 7 inch 10 inch and 12 inch decks with a variety of features .Some simple some all whistles and bells.There are older spinning platter cdjs of various sizes but platter controllers are rare and this is a potential growth area in the market

In comparison to the ddj-sz the ddj-sz's jog wheel is 202 mm which equals to 7.9 inches, which .9 inches bigger than these Numark v7s.

Yeah the v7 are amazing bought them 250 a piece 3 or 4 years ago they didn’t have much success in zwitserland...still using them...

Moving platters will be a huge thing since the traditional turntables are fading out. As I mentioned phase..... keeping the hope alive for the vinyl hard core folks. Needles are gonna be a thing of the past. Rane May drop prices too $1000 a pair ? Or re-loop will mimic Rane for cheaper? Pioneer might have give a side option other than just a moving led and might offer a moving platter controller? Of not they will have a copy of Rane 12s hahahah

the less connections you have to make the better for performance and the less you have to go wrong so being able to connect two V7S for one usb is great

You can also use the NS7FX to control effects of both platters with the V7 at the same time instead of 1 at a time.....You don't have to worry about switching back and forth from a to b decks...to use the effects with the NS7FX

Been using cdx/hdx since the release...adding phase to them would be dope ASF. Mp3,CD/DVD with hard drive, and phase..a good one is hard to find these days

The V7 can only control 2 decks. If you want to use 3 or 4 decks, you will need to get the 12.

I had the V7s and I so regret selling them ! They are really nice !

You can also use Denon snow-s3700 and s3900 With a rotating platter and it has Serato timecodes built in

Thanks for this great video bro! If im not mistaken we can mix with just one without a vinyl table? Quite nice and if so, that's way easier on the pocket. My style of mixing is more houses oriented in ridding lengthy beat matches so im thinking that the V7 may be just the thing for me?

A friend of mine bought the NS73 and I was testing it out because I was thinking of getting them myself,but when I scratch I find them a bit sensitive like when you're spinning back a warped record. Could it be that it needs a felt pad? I like the motorized platters or maybe I'm just heavy handed when it comes to cutting and scratching.

what a lot of people don't realize is that the resolution on this system and the Rane TWELVE is exactly the same. 3600 ticks per revolution. so yeah the resolution/responsiveness has always been great since the original NS7.

I'm using Technics DZ-1200 with Serato DJ timecode on SD card and real vinyl on top. They haven't let me down for many years.

Next best option is Phase and some cheap turntables and a decent mixer. Holding Phase is gonna be solid and at the price of 350 it’s nit bad at all and 550 for the bigger package

I rock with 2 V'7s and an S-9 Mixer. I love them and have for years. Fact check, the V-7's came out before the NS7 series. I will come out with a video displaying the pro's and con's of my set-up. Coming from Turntables, I have had my V-7's for years and hope that Numark comes out with a revamped V-7 that can compare with the Rane 12. Thank you to the person that made this video. A Numark HDX would be even better it has a 12" platter heaps of effects looping cue points plus the best feature it's got a built in 80gig hardrive so U can record any audio U want via line in ports

Great video. But, I would have to say the Denon SC3900 is better than the Numark V7 as an affordable alternative to the Rane 12's. The SC3900 does what the Numark V7 does (minus the sound search strip bar) plus more. You can use the SC3900 standalone, with a Raiden/Jesse Dean/Stokyo fader, and a £20 bluetooth speaker, which you unfortunately can not do with the Numark V7. I've had both the Numark V7, and I currently use a SC3900 when I'm not using my PT01 Scratch. The SC3900 is pretty difficult to find these days, but, if you can get your hands on one, you'll love it! Also, I feel I should mention the Denon HN5500, another beast! Although it doesn't have a 10" platter like the SC3900, it'll give you a lot more bang for buck than the Numark V7. Although, the HN5500 doesn't feel completely like a turntable like the Numark V7 or the SC3900. ...Oh yeah, I forgot, there's also... a Denon 3700 which is pretty dope too, didn't ever own it, but, it would seem that it's quite similar to the SC3900 (Minus the updated platter mechanism). The thing about the Rane Twelve's is that, with the Phase Project coming soon, the Rane Twelves will be almost a redundant piece of kit. I mean, damn, I bet all the Rane execs are praying to every imaginable God that Phase fails, because the Twelves sales will take a huuuuge nose dive once Phase has been released. Ouuuchhh!

Would it be possible to modify the V7, put in the newer (Smooth) 7 in. platter to replace the OG raised platter?

Question, if u use a pair with a regular mixer does it still mix in the software? I'm thinking the mixer has to be connected to the computer in order for that to happen. I ask cause I like to record my mix in the software.
