Hello there! Please could you let me know if you have the original, unedited match footage, or where I might be able to find it? I was a ball-boy for this match (please refer to comments below) and I'm searching for an incident that occurred between Serena and myself. Many thanks in anticipation for your help.
Agree! It is slow as hell. And Serena had to play players who are known for retrieving like Cornet, Svitolina, Gavrilova so it made it even worse. Like double disadvantage for Serena.
@Some One Tennis courts differ in how fast the ball bounces off the court. Clay courts are the slowest since the clay absorbs most of the bounce. Grass courts are usually fastest and the ball skids off the court. In the case of hard courts, there are a wide variety of speeds. Some hard courts like the US Open hard courts allow the ball to bounce off the court faster. The Olympics 2016 hard court shown here is incredibly slow. Kind of almost to the level of clay. That is why you see Serena's power and shotmaking kind of neutralized. She had to hit harder and go for the lines to get the ball thru her opponent.
I flew to Rio as an Olympics Volunteer and was one of the ball boys in this match. Lower left corner, so unfortunately not within the camera field of view. It was extremely windy and gusty, and we had issues passing the balls to each other successfully. Serena got pretty frustrated at one point, but I've yet to find a clip of the unedited first set. A great experience, I'd definitely do it again!
@@KetanSharmatron Hello, thanks for your comment! I'm not sure exactly, I think a few games in. That's the one little detail that I can't recall. I think it was 2-2 or 3-2 or something like that but I can't be certain.
Tennis IQ would tell you that hard courts vary in speed and bounce in regards to how hard you hit a shot or how much spin you add.. These courts played like clay
Tournament organisers should stop making slow as hell hard courts lmao Singapore, Rio, Indian Wells lol If it isn't as fast as Standford we dont want it !LOL
Super hard fought. Dasha crumbled mentally at middle of second set because she couldn’t impose her game with all her multi-timings and off pace balls. Serena simply wasn’t frustrated enough by it. Still, a very well played match. Serena rallied, angled, served, volleyed, and returned incredibly well. Just brutal angles. I think I like her best when she plays her angle game like here and in 2010. Her spin game is aesthetically pleasing in 2013 though. Her current power game is not so fun to watch.
I to this day wish Serena would have skipped this Olympics or withdrew after this match. She would have won the US Open and stayed number one. We probably would have got to 26 and she would have retired.
Daria’s defensive skills really put Serena to the test here. Williams had to go through 3 very defensive-esque style players and we all know she HATES these kinds of players..
