LOVE SERENA. She's the best. Never gives up. Mr. Williams did such an excellent job preparing his daughters to be the champions that they are. He covered all aspects of the game and life. Made them tough
That goes to show to all haters Why Serena is one of the greatest of all time (she beat the current Olympic medalist champion) no one can pull that off except Serena.
GRAF won the golden slam twice. 4 slams in a row in the same calendar year and the Olympic gold. Never been done before and probably will never do again.
@@keepitsports236 Well, she can't win 2 Golden Slams with 1 gold medal, 1 Sliver and 1 bronze medal, beloved... Also she only won the Calendar slam once and a "Serena Slam" once...
The return of Elena at 1:40:13 is unbelievable. Serena's serve is within cm of the centre line at 107mph - surely an ace against any other player. Elena takes a stance quite near the centre, giving up aces out wide so that she can make such returns. She even takes a slight step to right, only just reaches it on the full stretch, and sends a return to the baseline, following up with a winner.
I think Elena retired to early. She had the game to win a few GS. Love Serena toughest to fight when she was almost out 4-3 second set and match point down final set.>>>>>
She had been a top player for years and massively improved her serve, and still couldn't quite win a slam. If it had not happened yet it probably would not have.
@@pomerlain8924 She would have had a very hard time beating Kvitova at Wimbledon, and even Sharapova, Lisicki, Azaarenka would not be easy. U.S Open? Maybe a chance, but she lost to Stosur at the 2010 U.S Open, so she would have a hard time beating her at the 2011 U.S Open when Stosur was way better than 2010, and of course Serena as well.
As much as I was happy for Serena, this was so painful to watch for Elena... In my opinion, Dementieva is the best player who never won a slam, her athleticism, groundstrokes and fighting spirit were amazing
What Serena is more than a tennis champion. She is a fighter. She never throws in the towel and give up...never. Win lose or draw she gives it all she got until the end.
WOW Elena, what a athlete, she moves well on the court, nice movements when she hits the ball, every single move is in art, she missed a lot break point, she could win this match on 2 sets 0. ...She's my best player of all the time, i remember this match, i was crying for her every loss haha now supporting Serena of corse.
To win the match in two 7 would be something 😂!!! By saying that she could win the match in two 7, it's like insulting Serena 😂... This could be possible only in your head. This is why Serena won 🏆 the match 😂😂😂!!!
Venus and Elena were my favorite players to watch, but time and time again, they played with the toughest opponents during their era. Serena, Jennifer, Lindsay, Justine, Kim, Victoria, Li Na. This match just exemplified the challenge it is to win a major during this golden age of tennis.
@@mofumy One of the biggest fighters that has ever played tennis. No doubt. There were probably more talented players than her,but she literally won everything. And few more gifted players than her (Venus & Henin for example),couldn't win career grand slam. That's what Maria did. All tennis experts & former professionals saying back in 2009 she will never win Roland Garros, but she ended her career with 2 trophies & 3 finals in 3 years. If it wasn't for shoulder surgery (and Serena i guess), she would win 10 slams without doubt.
Only a few win slams. Just because dementiava didnt win one it can never change the fact she had an amazing career with many highlights. Some say she blew this one on match point sighting she should've done this or should've done that. Well hindsight is a wonderfull thing. I dont think she blew anything, lots to be proud of. Instead of saying she messed up, i say serena stepped up, huge match point save, this is why she is an all time great. Ive never been a massive fan of serena and her dramatics, but credit where credits due.
@@ianwilliamson2980 Too difficult to compare tbh, serena beat steffi as a teen but that was also towards the end of steffis career. Even though serena has more slams in singles and doubles I'd still put them on the same level. Either way they're both legends obviously
@@ianwilliamson2980 Thats definitely a fair opinion, but I think steffi has a better argument for clay than grass. On grass navratilova has 9 Wimbledons and serena has 7 and 6 in singles/doubles. I feel like clay suited steffis style more, she definitely has a better clay record than navratilova and serena, grass not so much
Dementieva was definitely one of the best athletes we've seen in the past 30 years. She could have won some slams if she just had a slightly better serve as it let her down a lot.
@@bobjacubas6818 It is interesting to wonder what happens in the final with Venus if she wins. Venus usually has a good record vs Dementieva, but Dementieva beat her at the Olympics and had some success vs her, and most of all Venus was badly injured and pretty subpar in the final. I would guess Dementieva would have a pretty good shot.
She should have improved her serve earlier in her career. It was much better and improved here but it would up being too little too late. If she had this serve in 2004 I have no doubt she wins the 2004 French and 2004 U.S Open both where she lost in the final. She could have won the French and maybe even the U.S finals even with her 2004 serve without falling apart in both finals through nerves, but even if she still was this nervous and underplayed as she did, with this serve she wins those anyway.
This just lets me know how great SERENA was. Dementieva was good but SERENA was just better. Even if she had a better serve, SERENA would've found a way to beat her
The golden age of tennis. The amount of talent in that era countless women went grandslamless, dementieva radwanska etc. Todays batch cannot match or gome close to that era
Dementieva wouldn’t have won a Slam in this era because she was too mentally weak and had no serve. She also had extremely predictable cross-court patterns and was completely exposed by the likes of Jankovic, Wozniacki and Radwanska.
2:26:27 Oracene all class as usual clapping for her daughter’s opponent’s shot to go up match point. What a fine match this was. Serena prevailed but Elena got her well-deserved gold medal at the Olympics the year before.
Wow those commentators really wanted that Russian to win! They were pumping her up like she was Serena’s equal. 🙄 I’m surprised at Tracey Austin, she’s always been so unbiased when calling games, unlike Chris Evert who’s a Serena hater.😡
I miss Dementieva more than any tennis athlete who's retired in the last 20 years. Excellent groundies, great battler but she just couldn't get over that hump in terms of grand slams. She got her gold medal though.
I am so eager to see this match once again. I read some comment about the best point in the match (Serena holding for 6-6 I think) wasn’t included in the Wimbledon highlights and I’ve been waiting to see that point ever since!
Shoutout to this match losing its title as the longest women’s SF after today. Forever one of the greatest matches of all time, magnificent play from both Serena and Elena.
One of the greatest women's matches ever, the level of play was the same during the match. This is not the first time Serena being down match point(s) and ends up winning the match and the slam, she is one of the greatest for a reason I love Tracy Austin commentary
1:16:12 - Elena’s second serve ace to the end of the game at 4-3 is just some mind blowing tennis. Elena was seeing her returns like a football this match and serving well. Serena just did not relent.
Martina Hingis had a great influence on the formation of both sisters. After defeating the first racket of the world in 1999 and 2000, Venus and Serena gained firm confidence in their abilities, and there was no stopping them.
Serena is an incredible champ.🏆 It would have been great if Dementieva was also a slam champ, too. The best chance for her to win a slam was at the French Open 2004.
