I understand why a victory over Serena is considered by many players as their most solid career accomplishment to be proud of. We see the same reality about Nadal, Federe and Djokovic.
I don't remember anyone but Vinci who could have said that. And maybe Cornet who has had several uncharacteristic wins over Serena which sort of made her famous besides her other results. Vinci's match wasn't just a victory over Serena, there was much more for both of them on the line that day. So that was even more important than Flavia winning the title, even for Italians, and many (including myself) think that Flavia would not have beaten Serena in the final. The most special thing for every player is always a grand slam win or a final of a grand slam, or a home tournament. And also we have to mention that Serena also had her bad days and her losses in some periods or specific tournaments where she didn't care much about the result... She lost to Cepelova I think a couple of tounraments before this but nobody cared about that loss because she wasn't herself. The majority of players have a losing record against Serena, that's also why it's not a big deal to have beaten her once or twice. Schiavone beat her in Rome in 2005 playing an amazing match, but nobody remembers that not even in Italy or in the tennis world. As Jankovic (when she spoke about her rivalry against Henin) used to say "one win is just being lucky, if you win 7 times you're the better player". And that's what the player thought about Serena.
@@milvao3400also people simply knew you can’t beat Serena when she’s at her best no one has been able to do that. We can even look at 2012 Olympics like imagine being on the receiving end of that. Absolute nightmare
@@Official.tadiwa It's the same for a lot of top players... Venus, Monica, Kim, Justine, Lindsay, Steffi... they were all impossible to beat at their best. But no one remembers Kim beating Serena to win the Us Open, no one remembers Svetlana beating her to win the French Open (playing a phenomenal match)...no one talks about Stosur beating her in 2011... They all talk about winning the tournament, which was the most important thing, that's true only for Vinci and that US Open win because it ws beyond unexpected and because it denied Serena the Grand Slam. That's why Vinci's win over Serena was more important than the tournament win.... ALSO, we have to decide here... Or the victory itself was so memorable because Seren was playing well... Or it was Serena playing badly and giving away the match to Vinci, who didn't do anything after that match in her carreer, and all the nonsense you read on yt comments all over again. It can't be both.
@@genegoss1160 RG14 was cool colors but awful repeated tired cut of skirt. Looked like tissue. Neckline was fine but it was way too basic. This outfit is far superior
Sad end to the tournament but finished it in good spirit so the crowd could see a final match. Good on Sara. Great sportsmanship. Love to hear Serena speak the language of the host country. Nice gesture.
Even if Errani wasn’t injured , she could do nothing with Serena , I know that Sara is great player , but sometimes When she plays again Serena it seems like she looks an amateur player ... in comparation with Serena .
Everyone looked like amateurs when they played the best Serena. I was lucky enough to see her play live in 2015 on clay and she made everybody look like they're amateurs, really. When Serena is at her best she plays natural tennis, her shots and her movements all look so natural compared to the other players. She's not mechanic, she doesn't play like a robot. She's just perfect tecnique and natural movement, that's why I don't like Coco being compared to her. Coco is a completely different kind of player. Amazing, but has very little to do with Serena besides the fact that they come from the same country and had success as teenagers.
Tennis is about hurting the opponent before they hurt you. Errani could not do much to stress Serena on the hand Serena had a lot of Errani weaknesses to explain especially the weak serving and the serve is the most important shot in tennis
@@jpd3484 "Serve is the most important shot in tennis"... well, I cannot agree... Djokovic and Nadal have average serves but they are the best ever. And also, if you can have Errani's serve, basically an amateur serve, and become no.5 in the world... that should tell you something. Serena cannot be bothered by Errani because Serena is just a good player on her own and she has a perfect technique and tactics, besides being powerful and strong phisically... everybody think that Serena was the best because she was stronger than the others... she was also one of the smartest players and the one with the best technique in the majority of her shots, that's what made her win so much. Errani could make other great players play badly, but not Serena.
Sarra got injured in the semi-finals she chose to play injured (peep the physio) to give the crowd a final and to honor Serena. I think Serena was referring to the tournament she played before her injury.
Geez, Serena is so worldly speaking in Italian (and I've heard her speak French, too). There was no way Serena was going to lose today, injury to Sara or not.
What's cool is the Italian crowd knows she speaks Italian, so when they are clapping as she speaks, they are clapping to what she is saying about Sara rather than Serena simply speaking their language.
Yes she did learn French and can speak French fluently because Serena wanted to live in Paris. My friend said to me, once you learn French it would be much easier to learn Spanish & Italian. I don't know how true that is though.
This shows that Errani wasn’t as tough as when Venus was injured in the Australian Open 2021, when Errani played against her there. Errani showed no sportsmanship there and Venus showed something more than her.
I can't help but admire Errani. Its like sheer will and determination she is short, not fast, no power, an atrocious serve and there she is banging with tennis powerhouses, and that grunt. lol
Errani is a fantastic doubles player. She moves like a dream on clay...her home surface. But that serve alone, among other things, prevented her from reaching grand slam status. Her serve is used to start points not win them. It was a liability.
I felt bad for Sara because it was an uphill battle with her at 100% but once she Got hurt I knew it was the pits… into the mouth of the Beast!!! Aka The GOAT= $Serena W
High % on her first serve, tactics, winning mentality. If you play Errani and think "oh she's below average" you're going to lose the match for sure. How do you think Coco Gauff beat Trevisan in the semifinals of the French Open? She treated her as a good player, and she even said that in the press conference, because she IS a good player, she just has more subtle weapons than 115mph serves.
O 285 She’s obviously saying sorry as a courtesy to the fact that errani was injured. She didn’t go for any extravagant celebration and was subdued cause she knew her opponent wasn’t physically at the level she needed to be. Nothing bad in it.
