I absolutely adore this album, it's so avant-garde, even today. "L'Hotel Particulier" is one of my favorite tracks from the album. "L' Homme A Tete De Chou" is another one of his jewels, almost as good as this album.
i was a freshmen in high school when i first heard this album, and man it blew me away. kind of reminded me of david axelrod's first 2 albums with the eclectic mix of styles in the music, and i got into those records a few months before i started high school thanks to exploring the samples on dj shadow's entroducing album. this album led me to explore more of serge's stuff (some really good, some eh). then it led me to jean claude vannier's first solo "L'Enfant Assasin des Mouches" and that blew me away as well. ever since then, i have spend years crate diggin for different kinds of music in various genres from various decades/eras of music thanks to my freshmen year where my taste and interested in music grew drastically.
Thanks man. I like watching just for tips on stuff I've never heard of. I've already got some Japanese pressings on some of the albums you've recommended. I'll give this a listen and see how I go. Keep those reviews coming.
Hey man ! Sorry for very late and WAY to long comment , but I’ll have to share this. I’m born 1965 , and now it is June 2023. Back in March this year , I was listening to the 1997 David Holmes album - ”Let’s get killed” on Spotify. Especially the song ”Don’t die just yet” , which was an automatic recommendation when a playlist ended. There was something very familiar with the song. I couldn’t quite sort it out. Then I did some research and ; Hey Presto ! It was sampled from Serge Gainsbourg - Histoire de melody Nelson. I recognized the cover immediately. My aunt played this all the time in -71 when I was 6 years old and she was babysitting me. She’s 11 years older than me , so she was 17 at the time. I’ve played it on Spotify many times for three months now , and I’m currently awaiting a 2021 reissue , still in shrinkwrap. I just got to have it. As a sidenote , she also familiarized me with Beatles and Janis. Also ; her brother , my uncle , who are 2 years younger than her , introduced me to Zeppelin , Cream , Hendrix , Sabbath , Doors , Pink Floyd , Bowie , Stones and Deep purple when we were at sunday dinners at granny’s and gramp’s , where they , naturally , still lived back then. End of my yapping. I’ll let myself out.
Great (and funny) review Sir ! I love Serge Gainsbourg too and I'm french ;-). About the Vinyl Deluxe box from 2011... If you can find a copy, buy it ! It's a beauty. (Do you know the album "L'Homme à Tête de Choux" (1976) ?)

Hello my friend, I have i question for you, please help, now i am in dilema, which speakers to buy, b&w 602 s3 bookshelves or b&w 603 s3 floorstanders? Now I'm enjoying 602.5 , but I heard how sounds 602 s1 and I was exited, because sound was more natural and filled my room better than 602.5. As i see you are using b&w bookshelves, maybe its better than floorstanders? forums leaders are 603 s3, because bass is better. But 602's has bigger midrange speaker, the same as 604 has, so maybe that bigger tweeter makes the sound more natural, near hi end. Thank you, for yours opinion. :)
Hello Eduardas, that's a very hard question. All I can say is: Get the right sized speaker for your room. A lot of people make the big mistake to buy large floor standing speakers for a small room. You will have nothing than bass problems since the speaker is oversized. On the other hand: If your room is very huge you can use big speakers to fill it up. It really depends on the room size. If you get shelf size speakers be sure to also get official B&W stands for them. They make a enormous difference,too. Thanks for watching! Armien

Great album! I saw someone in the comments mention "l'homme a tete de chou", have you had a chance to check it out? It's my favorite Gainsbourg album, if you understand French it's an even better experience as the lyrics are simply great.

Yeah it's hard to know what genre it is ... You know Serge was a famous "chansons" singer in France, many people liked him but most older people of course didn't know about this album and ignored it. I like the orchestra thing and that greasy bass. The LITA reissue contains all translation and deep liner notes. Great video my friend !

I love this album! I have the Light in the attic reissue and it sounds great, but I wish it wasn’t pressed at United. They are the Worst pressing plant ever. I will keep a lookout for an original or a Japanese pressing.

In der letzten Zeit leider nichts. Hier gibts keinen vernünftigen Plattenladen. Nur einen und wenn der erwähnt wird auf irgendwelchen Seiten muss ich posten: Wer Musik liebt sollte diesen Laden meiden. Er verkauft seine Scheiben extremst überteuert. Und wenn man sagt, die PULSE-Box kriegt man überall für ca 500 €, rastet der aus, denn er denkt, er kriegt 1200 € dafür. Irgendwie tut mir der Leid aber wie er manchmal werden kann, ist das Mitleid schnell wieder weg. Er verkauft seine Scheiben über Amazon, da muss man zwangsläufig seltsam werden. Bei den Preisen dort. Und die letzte Scheibe die ich gekauft habe, war AMUSED TO DEATH. Das ist ganz klar eine der besten Scheiben meiner Sammlung. Vor allem aber klanglich.
