It's quite common to make army animals a higher rank than their handler, making it a military crime to mistreat them.

@@NoNameAtAll2 A) It's easier to hide it, because they're your subordinates and people will listen more to you B) You can get away with a lot things because you have to maintain order and so, but that doesn't mean you can do anything with them. If it gets too much you could get in trouble. But it is a bad idea because your subordinates won't be loyal and that is really bad when you are in a combat situation.

I know this is old, but right around 15:45 Gary mentions the lift doors opening. I lived in a college town and they had a gaming and anime con. I brought my daughter that was probably 2 1/2 years old. She decided that she wanted to wear her bear outfit. If ever there was a place you could get away with it, that was the place. At one point we came up the elevator in front of the information desk at the commons. I was in the corner of the elevator, and she was right in front of the door. The look on the face of the people working at the desk as the doors open and all they saw was a little person in a bear outfit... priceless.

How do you zip line en masse to the poop deck? The poop deck is at the very rear of a ship and thus is usually higher than the main deck. You would have to zip line from somewhere up one of the masts and you normally don't get many people climbing the same bit of rigging all at once. Also, imagine Jack Churchill atop this horse. @Tom about the heavy glasses thing: those are heavy glasses for a _human,_ where the visual acuity has to be high so they still need to use a perfectly transparent medium. A horse doesn't need to see as much detail, in fact it would probably benefit from seeing a slightly fuzzy world, so you could use Fresnel lenses for thinness and lightness.

As an optician apprentice I feel obligated to comment - nowadays mineral glass (Silicat glass) or what we actually call “glass” in day-to-day life is rarely used for spectacles. Almost all of the time the lenses are made of plastic of sort (like polycarbonate) which can have a higher, or at least the same refractive index as silicat glass meanwhile being much lighter and less prone to break. It does scratch more easily, so it requires protective coating, however it does not affect the weight of the spectacles whatsoever. Although it is quite individual and sometimes it can be beneficial to use flint glass, but again - rarely. About 90-95% of the lenses I have ever handled at work were plastic. 2:30

Theoretically, depending on the type of antipersonnel mine, a horse might be able to get clear. Some of them are designed to wound rather than kill, for the reason that a wounded soldier takes the soldier out of combat as well as the medic tending the wounded soldiers and tie up resources, whereas an immediately dead soldier does takes only one soldier out of combat and does not tie up as much resource time and material. They didn't have nearly as large a radius of effect, since a large explosion would be immediately fatal.

12:50 this is even funnier if you imagine Jack Churchill as the rider, firing arrows at the enemy line

I want an entire comic book series based on the Citation Needed Universe, where Jack Churchill, Julie d'Aubigny and Sgt. Reckless have adventures around the world, occasionally bumping into their spy friend Juan Pujol García, who's always in disguise, and the caver/interior designer Stefania Follini, who's always in an excavator underground

I love this so much it's ridiculous! Also, the bit about filing cats and kittens, I found it interesting...

I do love the fact that this _horse_ technically outranked some humans in the military. Imagine you go through the brutal process of becoming a soldier only to be outranked by a former race horse.

Someone said that's common for the handlers so that mistreatment is technically a military crime

These videos are great! I love the random trivia and interplay of the "contestants".

Had to look it up because curiosity: Google sold Boston Dynamics to Softbank group from Japan in 2017... and now Hyundai holds the majority stock.

Hey now. Rex Harrison's Doctor Doolittle gave General Bellows' horse a pair of corrective glasses. Admittedly, they did hang from the neck as well as the bridge of its snout.

here's the thing: you asked that kitten question as an archivist question (which makes sense, given you had a professional at the table), but in archives the filing is all based on the collection as it arrives at the archive. so then there may not be any intrinsic connection between the file and what its filed between. like if you have an archive of pets, with a bunch of cats, and then you get the archive of someone who has a bunch of dogs, and one kitten, you're not gonna put that kitten with the cats like you would in a library (where you'd probably not even keep it, if you already had a kitten in the collection), you're gonna keep that group of pets together.

A horse charging through a minefield faster than the mines can activate? Code Geass: Boukoku no Akito, episode 4 It's more like a mechanical centaur, but that still counts, right?

Re Glasses: You can't have a windshield because most people eyes are not the same script, also you need to put the focal point in front of a persons eyeball. So a winshield wouldn't work. Thinner materials should not be heavier. You want an index 1.67 plastic or a 1.71. They are thinner and lighter than glass or polycarb and used for high scripts. They are more expensive but depending on your script you may need them. Can't speak for how common they are in the UK but here in Australia we use them very commonly. I cut glasses for 4 years at an optometrist. Glass is still the thinnest material but it isn't commonly used in western countries due to difficulty to cut, weight and potential danger when they break. Most lenses are plastic these days :)
