I love Lani Hall, I love Herb Alpert and I really and truly love Sergio Mendes. Started listening to his music when I was 6 years old in 1967....59 now in 2021 and love them even more. Music for the heart, mind, body and soul!!!
My parents loved this music, I grew up loving it and I still do 60+ yrs later. Living in Miami, we were exposed to all types of latin, Brazilian, and Caribbean musical masterpieces. Timeless.
I was born in"61" too, and Herb Alpert & the Tijahuana brass, and Sergio Mendez & Brazil 66, are the sounds l most remember... coming from my mom's Magnovox stereo.
I was 16 years old when Sergio Mendes with Lani Hall et al took the U.S., and me, by storm. I've loved them and their music ever since. Herb Alpert was already a big star and his music a staple of the 60s. Beautiful people, wonderful music.
I was still in my elementary years when I first heard the music of Sergio Mendes with the lovely Lani Hall as his vocalist then. Until now I still listen to Sergio,Lani & Herp.
@@mattfoley6082 Ha! I WISH I was a musician with good ears. :( I'm just someone who absolutely loves music. I understand about 1/3 of what Rick says, but I feel all the rest. I still have all my original Carpenters albums from the 70s (I cried when she died), and I absolutely adore Brasil '66 and Lani Hall. And, of course, I love me my Herb. :)
Amazing two guys and musicians and the incredible Lani Hall. What a story these three have together. Gives me the goosebumps hearing Herb tell this amazing story.
It’s so wonderful to see Lani and Herb at the Hollywood Bowl with Sergio. This is such a nice surprise for fans of Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66. Lani still sings as well as ever! Thanks very much for posting it.
I grew up watching Herb Albert on TV and loved the few times l have heard him play. Then l stumbled across Brazil 66 on line and fell in love their music and especially Lani Hall. Of course had to Google her and low and behold she's married to the fantastic Herb they make a wonderful team. Thanks for all the years of pleasure you have brought to the world💗
Yes, because her 1960's recordings in Portugese and her earliest 1970's recordings in Spanish were done phonetically. Today, she can speak (somewhat) both languages, but she says that she is "Not fluent"
Absolute artists! Fell in love with SM Brasil ‘66 music when i was a teenager; Lani’s soft, gentle, cool voice & that beat totally captivated me. Still dancing to it decades on. Grateful to have this amazing band’s sound “berimbau’ing” in my life. Godsend.
Herb Alpert I fell in love with you since Tijuana Brass, and that guy's in love with you....you are one of the most gorgeous man,Leni, beautiful voice, looking so good.....and Sergio,well,great...one of my favorite groups ever....
i wished they'll live long because they're beautiful to see.i still can picture the song they did together(come what may)in my mind because they're a happy and wonderful couple.
Sergio Mendes and Brazil '66 = The sound of my life growing up in my term years. I have All of his albums from that time, and was lucky enough to see them on tour in Kansas City, front row seats, with all my family. When the wonderful concert was over, the off duty police officer was so busy looking at Lani and Karen, that l was able to sneak around him as he stood on stairs that led up to the stage, and go through a curtain! I met all of my musical heroes, they each have me their autograph, and we're so nice to me. They answered my questions, it was a dream. Then l hear my mother speaking with the police officer, and he is telling her that there is No way that someone could have gotten past him! Sergio comes over and says to him, he is here, let them all come in! What an amazing experience! And last Fall, l went with my twin sister to see Lani and Herb at the Kaufman Center for Performing Arts. What a great show! So many special memories! Thank you to you all, your music has made life even More Beautiful! 🌹🌹🌹🌹 ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

So did my dad. He had several of his album's. I remember the one with the whipped cream. Didn't know what it was at the time, but my mom was not happy with my dad after I saw it. Good memories of my dad
Tengo 76 años así que hay voy en edad con estos grandes de la música, Sergio, Herb y Lani, y que la musica los conserva saludables, alegres y dinámicos.
I've been a big fan of Sergio Mendes and his group since I was in high school (and I went to our 50th anniversary August 2017} My mother bought me an LP of his music when I was in school, she had heard him on the radio. We played it on my parents big box stereo, FM/AM and record player. In 1968, I left to be a Mormon missionary in São Paulo, Brasil (not as exciting as "The Book of Mormon" musical ) and was excited to hear his music when I got there. Sadly, that didn't happen. He was in the USA and didn't get much radio play but I learned to love some of the others artists. I've seen him perform several times in the following years and most recently 2 years in a row at a casino showroom in Las Vegas, where I lived for almost 17 years. When I moved back to Utah, after retirement in June 2015, I was busy getting settled and about 3pm one afternoon, I saw an ad in a local newspaper for Sergio in concert with his band and his terrific wife, Gracinha at a venue about 25 miles south of me. Guess when the concert was? That same night, tickets were $22.00. I’m an old guy and am waiting patiently to see him again. Hoping he makes a stop close to where I am this summer. Wish I could afford a trip to Australia to see him😊 His shows have never been anything less than terrific!!
Es un verdadero super placer ver a tanta luminaria tocar en concierto juntos como el gran SERGIO MENDEZ, Lanni Hall y HERB ALPERT , caray que gusto da ver que aun tocan. WOW!!!!!
Throughout the years I have heard Sergio Mendez & Brazil 66. Their music has survived many changes in the music industry & come out with a sound that trandsends time! 🎶🎶🎶💖💖💖
Had all his LPs. in the 60s. Herb inspired me to take up the trumpet in elementary school and I played through college. Hope I look half as good when I'm 81.
Well said and well put ! When my family got a beautiful stereo from Sears when I was a kid in the 60s my mom rushed out & bought a LOT of albums....including a handful of Herb Alpert & the TB records ! Grew up listening to those groovy sounds ! And of course listened to lot of Lani's singing on various Brasil '66 tunes on the radio ! Wonderful memories !! :-)
I've been listening to Herb Alpert and Sergio Mendes since the mid-1960s and will always be grateful for their music. Herb Alpert had great taste and thanks to A&M we got The Carpenters, among others. I like that Herb never over-played his instrument; it was subdued and very effective for the type of music he pursued. In the wrong hands, the trumpet can be annoying, but in his hands it was a pleasure to hear. Also, he assembled fine musicians for his sessions, among them piano prodigy Pete Jolly. Before Sergio Mendes hit it big, he had Brasil 65. Their release is available on CD. I didn't think much of the original lead singer on that LP, but the album is well performed. One of the tunes, "She's a Carioca" has a moody beautiful flute played by Bud Shank. It may still be on youtube and is worth sampling. Anyway, I'm thankful for these fine musicians. I still listen to them often.
I've always loved Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass . I was 7 or 8 when I heard them for the first time and from that time on I was hooked . He's tops in my book . ❤️
So grand to see all the tajent together again. Sergio, herb, Lani And all the musicians. I had so many of their records and albums when I was about 13 and it's music sweet music to my ears. 🎵🎶🎹🎼💃🕺
A unique reunion! I was - and am - a big fan of Sergio Mendez and his two '66 vocalists. Herb Albert I discovered when he brought out his fantastic albums 'Rise' and 'Beyond' which I heard in my local discotheque. To the DJ: "Who is this??! " "Herb Alpert." "Whaaaaaat?" That was the first time I DANCED, and also the last time...
Oooo, Lani Hall, la inolvidable voz de Sergio Méndez y su Brasil 66, bella voz además, un grupo de música alegre y muy buena y Herb Alpert, super wow, thanks
Thank you Herb Alpert and Lani Hall ! Your music is truly the instrument of the soul. Even if you don’t know the words your music is universal filling us all with love. I am 68 and have listened to you my whole life. My dad play sax , My mom piano and filled our home with music. I can’t wait to see you this Sunday in old saybrook at the Kate! Audrey Carlson
I love all these performers. The music is always fresh and soothing, then sometimes fresh and invigorating. I hear such great feeling behind their performances. I've been captivated by Lani Hall for what seems like forever. With her voice and physical beauty, it's been almost too hard to bear to think there's only one of her in the world. But... Watching and listening to Herb Alpert describe her, he seems to display a humble and almost a boy-like innocence about her. I feel like he deeply loves and appreciates her. Suddenly I'm very happy for the both of them. And, if I can't have her, I'm glad he does! Just one last thing: I will always try to imagine what it would be like to hear the voice of your wife down the hall, singing while she's making, and to know it's Lani's voice, in person. I have to imagine that's quite a thrill.
The sound remains the same, the talented singers and backup group still carry that beautiful latin beat that perks up your feeling whenever they play collectively. Now that is the kind of music.....classic music at its best.
THANK YOU for sharing this once in a lifetime video. We’re such fans of Herb, Lani and Sergio, would’ve given anything in the world to have been there in person!🙏🏻❤️🎧🎺
I used to love Lani's accent in 1966! Since then, her Portuguese has improved her accent and diminished a lot. "Upa Neguinho" (4:31) is sung by her with almost no accent. ==(gilberto lehrer from razil)
Great video for the story Lani, Mendez and Alpert for the last time I think that reunited since Herb was ahead of us in the way where we all rest in peace
How's this? I saw the Tijuana Brass and Brasil '66 at the Hollywood Bowl in the summer of 1966! I was at a music summer camp in Carlsbad, CA. It was our big field trip. Life changing for a 13 year old!
Sergio Mendes creates great original music there other people from Brasil who also play great music such as Anna Setton and the band Nova. The music of Brasil is admired the world over by competent musicians. That is the legacy of Sergio Mendes.
Lani's voice is as great as ever. Sergio is singing as out of tune as ever too, but he's a genius as a musician. I always loved this song from the Brasil '66 days.
Bela música de Edu Lobo e que também teve uma interpretação espetacular de Elis Regina. Legal a Lani cantando em português. Traduzir essa letra para o inglês seria complicado.
