Can we all sit back and appreciate the fact that the developers made a full movie (1 hour and 22 minutes) of animated cutscenes for this game? Imagine how long that took and how elaborate the planning for those scenes had to be... It's nothing short of incredible!
considering they all look like they were made by a 10yo in garrys mod, not long at all. lol im glad they ditched the really crappy childishness when they made 3.
@@darkdogzstudioz the point wasn't only that garry's mod didn't exist, but that this is from 2005. look at any game's cutscenes from that year if you forgot how they looked like. look at Doom 3's cutscenes, which were made by a way bigger studio.
I still fucking love this game mainly for its hilarious sense of humor.I remember playing it when it first came out....It was undoubtedly the most addictive game back then, along with need for speed most wanted.
16:45 "you said the same thing about that blondie guy few years ago and look what happened!" "Oh, him... but it took him FOREVER to even try!" I see what you did there, game.
"Remember who you are talking about. He is no ordinary human. He is special." "So? When I was young they used to tell me that I was special!!!" The one joke in this game that goes through most people's heads.
1:15:08 is probably my favorite. "See them crush the enemy into the oblivion..." (Gets blow the fuck out) "...uhm, we’ll probably see it later." The delivery makes this for me LMAO.
Serious Sam is a weird case. The story is, quite literally, very serious, yet we can see here from Serious Sam II that the writers almost never have any intention to write anything other than wacky, zany parody of video games in general. Mental is a mad god who's basically the Reapers from Mass Effect but like a million times worse, made all the more chilling by having the attitude of a total manchild as he kills everything. Sam has a very snarky, very angry form of survivor's guilt because he's the only one who's able to fight back against Mental's armies with any degree of success, and never enough success to save anyone other than himself. The Kleers were fucking firebombed out of existence just for having one of the decoy medallion pieces, and then reanimated from the dead to serve Mental. But this is also a series where Sam can have his spaceship accidentally knocked out of the sky by "the crate bus" just for an excuse to make levels in South America, and where your support character can literally will herself into being a full-fledged character with no more justification than "the gave developers have more budget now"
That's the power of a lot of cartoons, and good writing in general--ability to balance light and dark well. I personally don't mind something with dark, or epic implications, but doesn't take itself too seriously. The thing is, it all comes down to execution. And while I know comedy is largely subjective, and CroTeam didn't have THAT big a budget, a lot of the jokes just don't land for me. And a lot of the NPCs just look--for lack of a better term--ugly and unpolished. Yes, I know these are alien creatures based on loose cartoon themes, but they also look like slightly polished Foodfight characters. What's even worse, is that some jokes are actually pretty good, so it feels like a crapshoot to find which works, and which doesn't.
I always just pretend Serious Sam 2 is just a crazy dream Sam is having while on the ship, traveling from Earth to Sirius. It would explain the over-the-top ridiculousness of the game compared to the originals/sequel.
I don't know, TFE had a few comedic moments in the bios, as well as in the game (Sam's quips and the secrets), and TSE was a full on comedy in almost every aspect besides gameplay
It’s not canon so in a way what you said kinda makes sense. It’s like the way Super Mario USA revealed its ending to be the whole game just set in Mario’s dreams.
I still have this game and i think i played for 10,000+ Hours as i got all the secrets in the game. I still have this game and the ORIGINAL XBOX! Finished the whole game probably 100 times over on Are You Serious? Mode
@@bloodborne410 not sure how many hour i really did but i did play a crap ton of it when i was little. loved the final boss fight for sure though. Still remember the arena, swamp, snow level where you freeze even the crazy Underworld map where you fight an army of skeleton bull things. Loved that level, still find the border guard scene a little funny XD
0:34 I can imagine this scene being updated with gameplay from: Serious Sam HD: TFE and TSE Serious Sam 3: BFE Serious Sam 4 Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem
Thanks for this. I could not get into this game because the gameplay is so different to TFE and TSE. So I am dropping it and going straight to SS3. But I want to know what happens first.
CroTeam planned to remaster, but they counts this game as "non-canon" - bad dream of Sam, that he has during his way to Mental... It's same as RWS counts all plot of "Postal 3" as kind of Dude's delirium dream
