This level works so well for how simple it is. It just feels right that the final level sees Sam at full power, all his weapons, loaded up with health and armour and with a massive gauntlet of enemies with an incredibly dramatic soundtrack. This level so flawlessly nails the atmosphere on every level. Truly one of the masterpieces of first person shooters of this era.
The last area with the immense number of enemies and the meteors coming down along with the awesome soundtrack will be one of my best memories in gaming. I still remember the first time playing it back in like 2003 like it was yesterday. Those were the days.
8:00 lol I didn't know that about Cannons. Btw, congrats on finishing TSE! 20:05 the Embryo Museum secret isn't located on Earth. You are teleported somewhere else in universe. You can see Ugh-Zan I, Ugh-Zan II and a question mark that looks like Ugh-Zan which is where Ugh-Zan III was. You were supposed to see both Ugh-Zan I and Ugh-Zan II on The Mental Institution level in Serious Sam 2 as a moving decoration to the level so to say. They would be outside of the level and would roar on player only. Models were the same but made a bit cartoony to fit the style of ss2. They were removed from the level because of time constraints and only 2 sound entities are left from which only 1 sound entity is left active which is why you can hear Ugh-Zan but can't see him when playing Mental Institution. It's a shame really, if there were no time constraints the game would have been much bigger, better and more polished. It's good that 2K isn't Croteam's publisher anymore. Something about Croteam's problem with publishers: Gathering of Developers was their publisher for The First Encounter and The Second Encounter in 2001 and 2002. After Gathering of Developers died Croteam's new publisher became the awful 2K games that is probably responsible for kid-friendly style in Serious Sam 2 and for time constraints (end of 2005) that led to a shitty game compared to what the game could have been. 2K games later sued Croteam and wanted to take their franchise. Luck was on Croteam's side so 2K didn't manage to take the franchise. New publisher which was created by people who worked in Gathering of Developers, called Devolver Digital, became their publisher for Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter and is Croteam's publisher to this day.
'Course, even after leaving 2K, they unfortunately didn't get much paydirt with BFE and even 4. Amusingly, would even say that the former's 2K contemporaries, BioShock 1 and 2, are far better games. At least they did well with The Talos Principle, but even then, that's not a Serious Sam installment.
Wait, I just realized, Sam says "I hate running backwards" when the player backtracks right? Croteam were producers of a game made by Binx Interactive called "I Hate Running Backwards" in 2018. That game takes place in Serious Sam universe. Clever Croats.
Hooray! You made it!I'm just looking forward to "Broken Kill Counts in Classic Serious Sam (Part 2)" and "Classic Serious Sam Monster Tier List(on Serious)"
Here's a few related facts:- when they released the Original version of Serious Sam on the Original Xbox, they had to make some changes to the game due it's limitations. Weapons that were exclusive to The Second Encounter part of the game appear in The First Encounter. Also levels were made smaller, case in point, The Grand Cathedral. When it came to this level and the Xbox limitations, this level was cut in half, so the first half of this level was named The Corridor of Death. Luckily when they did the remake, they just ported the PC versions The First Encounter/The Second Encounter to the Xbox Live Arcade with the levels in all their original glory. Edit:- changed a few words for grammar sake.

Atleast you didn't forget to get the cannon unlike some other weapon in the previous level (that you thankfully got back thanks to clean start) :) F for the time lost on the practice run.
Oh boy, here we go. On the surface this is such a simple level but it just works. The secrets are amazing and the music is so fine but I think the point at which I really started to love this level was when it started raining fire. It's just you, the enemies, a bunch of power-ups and raining rocks. Completely out of nowhere but just so awesome and at the point I beat the final boss I really don't care anymore that the boss is pretty underwhelming because I had my fun and it was freaking amazing. Good Video, I'm sorry to hear you had to do it twice but hey, more good music, eh? :D
I forgot a lot of the "memorable" moments from the earlier levels, like the bouncy rooms and rotating tunnels and stuff. But these later levels, from the citadel and onward, really stuck in my mind, and this one is no exception. Long wide hallways, huge fights, amazing music. And I love the rays of sunlight shining down through the dark clouds in the background. What a great setting for an epic battle.
Yeah I highly agree. As a kid playing this on Xbox getting to the citadel felt so grand and amazing. That beautiful skybox, the amazing music. Such a great ending level for an amazing game.
The meteors are just one entity in Serious Sam Classics called a Meteor Shower entity - it is placed right where the ammo pack is. The damage they deal is like a damage from a Major Biomech x2. In Serious Sam HD, there's no Meteor Shower entity, so they just used Eruptor entities. This is why the meteors in HD are very weak, and scatter more than in the Classics.
*decino says he won't cheese the final arena* Me: YES! FINALLY! GRAND CATHEDRAL DONE RIGHT!!!! *proceeds to completely cheese the final boss* Me: Oh wait, nvm Seriosuly though, this was absolutely amazing! Thanks for making such awesome walkthroughs of both of these games and doing justice to them. Serious Sam doesn't get nearly enough love it deserves.
Best music of the series, great atmosphere, [mostly] great fights, cool secrets... what more could you ask for? Ah, what a game. In the words of Vinnie Jones: "It's been emotional".
I wouldnt say it was bad boss, cheesing him is quite terrible but fight itself is quite good, you really need to be on top of your game to clear all that stuff he spawns
One can also say that it's not intended for you to skip the cutscene where the boss appears to either hide or get some cheap shots in. It IS an option though, so really it's up to each player to decide how they want to do it. I'm just happy that he cleared the final arena in a proper fashion, unlike most walkthroughs here on YT, who indeed run away and snipe stuff from miles away.
@@MrEvilbyte what do you mean? Of course it's possible. You shoot the boss a few times, then shoot enemies he spawns a few times, grab the speed shoes, shoot the boss a few times, etc. I dunno, maybe Croteam were pushed by time at this point, so they didn't test it properly.
Actually, if the Harpy dies carrying a Kamikaze, the Kamikaze isn't really removed. I noticed this before, but when you get closer to where the Harpy carrying the Kamikaze died, the Kamikaze spawns for some odd reason. Probably one reason why this was not in HD?
This level was a fantastic finish to the serious sam. From great memorable music to simple but effective level design. To nice and funny secrets, including the pumpkin yards, the room with boss from ssfe, the afro guy in window and a butt staring at you. Very good level
I found you can avoid jumping and getting hit by mechs, reptloids in Jumper Yard. Stay in start area with ammo bag and Armor at start point. Kill Hoppers till you snipe all 4 mini bio blue mechs. Then time your jump at opposite end between jumpers while killing hoppers. You must make it across before killing all so keep 1 or 2 alive till you make it. Get inside any of the corner 2 walled doorways at ends from where kleers and mini bio mech spawn. Then kill last hoppers. Kleers spawn one by one all 6 can kill them from behind with Chainsaw or sniper before they realize. Even if they do notice can kill in minimum damage. Can minigun the major red bio mechs and their rockets from hiding one by one easy. Just kill their rockets on time. Can easily snipe Kleers on other side as they jump. Can easily snipe harpies or lure them in stepping out and back in with chainsaw. Take opposite wall green aldurian repltloids one by one. Ones on your side of wall can't see you easy killings in end. At 400% enemy strength you can't win jumping. Major bio mech takes like 6 cannonballs, or 20 rockets/sniper bullets. Harpies need 2 sniper bullets. Mini mechs take also 2-3 snipes or half a dozen rockets. Reptloids need 7-8 sniper bullets or 10 rockets. Kleers take minimum 5 rockets snipers so obviously it won't be easy at all jumping and fighting maybe impossible. And Marshhoppers at that strength in groups are lethal.
Damn you actually held my attention for 40 minutes, I didn't even notice how much time has passed until you got out of the corridors and into the open. I don't think I've even clicked on a let's play let alone finish watching one in years, so yeah, props to your skills and especially the analysis stuff but it's this that got me subscribed, nice job!
Not using Serious Bombs is definitely easier in SS1 than SS2. The final level of SS2 is a massive pain to deal with if you don't use one due to all the big Spider Mechs near the end..
I just realized how much akin this level is to the Great Pyramid, hell event the fact that the temple ending that is constant in all the serious sam endings is proof of this...
The theme in this level will forever be a part of my soul. "oh god, never underestimate the power of stupid things in large numbers" Heh was he speaking about you tube comments?
overall, i don't think the quality on these videos has been all that bad. everything we need to see, is perfectly visible. my only gripe with the series so far have been the stutters that you mentioned. glad to hear you got them ironed out.
Thank you for making an awesome lets-play of Classic Serious Sam Series, Specially The Second Encounter. Loved and enjoyed every bit of it. Aaaaaaaand I love big juicy double pumpkins ;P
Well, if this isn't one of the most epic final levels in an FPS game I don't know what is (apart from the boss, I guess). And all in what was at the time basically a budget indie game. Almost seems a shame some of the earlier levels aren't of quite the same standard.
I summarize this level with a French proverb that says the best it's for the end for me it's my favorite level music action galore and then this funny ending nothing to reproach him.
Now THIS is a level that defines Serious Sam, a big battle, big arenas, and a SERIOUS fight to the final boss. I remember one of my playtroughs ended in failure cause I wasn't SERIOUS enough. (funnily enough not the VR playthrough) Mordekai being a breeze boss fight compared what you just went through feels like a great punctuation on a awesome Serious Sam game.
Too bad the final boss isn't as strong as the one from the first encounter, but overall great game, and you've done a great job in getting all the kills possible
A little over a year after this video, I finally beat classic Serious Sam games. This level is definitely a great way to leave off, the penultimate battle in ruins during a raging thunderstorm and meteor shower while this epic soundtrack is playing is definitely a lot of fun despite many deaths. Great walkthrough btw, and a great game series.
This game is .... from 2002, I was 6 yo and playing this, I’m .... so old, times were great when this game was released, I mean, I have a bit of nostalgia, thank you for uploading .. this have bring up many many memories
This game is my all time favorite. Big open maps nice colors best sountracks and Serious humor. Im so happy that someone still plays and enjoyes it. Serious sam never dies.
Excellent playthrough. I've only finish TFE and TSE on normal. You make things look so easy. Btw, the final boss looks and behaves a lot like D'sparil from Heretic
When i done my no death serious run (if died - restart game), i think i came to the start of this map five or six times. And finished game with 3 serious bombs cause "MAYBE I NEED THEM LATER".
On the HD version, I played on a 68 multiplier which included no powerups and 400 percent extra enemy health. Extremely hard but cannon still ripped through kleers so it was mainly the biomechs that caused stress Edit: infinite ammo :P
I should really look into the stats in this game, especially damage and hitpoints >4 sniper shot to kill biomech major >4 rockets to kill same >2 rockets to kill werebull >1 sniper shot to kill same For awhile there, I thought the sniper and RL did the same damage Edit: Disclaimer, never played Serious Sam outside of BFE, I only watched my mom play TFE and TSE
@@decino That makes sense. I looked it up, rocket does 100 direct and 50 splash, and it's probably like Doom where they take both splash and direct. Majors supposedly have 750 health and a zoomed sniper shot does 300 damage. I see now where Overwatch got that idea from.
00:19 a pack of sunflower seeds and a cup of tea ready for action! :D 03:40 you're doing it for your lovely subscribers and fans! Before entering this level it should be a warning saying that your left mouse button can be burned after playing this xD
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA _Explodes from excitement!_ Epic end to an epic playthrough, Decino! Never thought Mordekai fight could be cheesed this way lol! (Also don't worry, I won't tell RU-vid anything. ;D)
this was one of my favourite FPS levels when growing up, it's a very straightforward level and that works quite well and is a huge improvement from Metropolis (hope I'm remembering the level name correctly) from TFE so it is a way better experience. It's the end of the game so you're all pumped up and all you have to do is just keep killing enemies while listening to an epic music track behind it. Sure it takes a while to get through the whole map but it's just such a satisfying experience
45+ minutes you spent to share your awesome skills and commentary with the world. I'd say they were well utilized, given the quality inherent in what was presented.
The music is billions of people killed by mental rooting you on, calling to god to let them intervene and the meteors at the end are god finally allowing them do something.
well of course you would do the semi final section with meteors by standing in the middle. Jesus man, that one is just tiring i don't want to try it... Although there is still Demo I know I will share my thoughts right now....AWESOME PLAYTHROUGH! This is the first time i have seen someone play Serious Sam on youtube, so I learned a lot of secrets and strategies. I think I will next time also do Clean Starts. It always bothers me that they overkill you with so much ammo for sniper, flamethrower, minigun and cannon that you for the most part don't need other weapons and with Clean Starts it is kinda a bit well balanced. Although they still sooner or later will stack you to the brim with everything and some weapons even with little ammo are OP as fuck....but anyway....i think that is just a thing about the Second Encounter. They weren't trying to make a balanced challenge with cleverly placed monsters and usage of all weapons...they went over-the-top and super fun way! And to be honest I go back to this one at least once a year. It is a shame that from what I know you don't like Serious Sam 2 because that is a material for many,MANY hours of playthroughs. I think it is kinda underrated gem. It shines in the darkness caused by the third installment for me. Thank you for the playthroughs. I am really addicted to this channel right now i wonder what game will come next. I'll keep watching!
You can cheese the final big battle (before the boss) by getting to the edge of the map (but not too far, you'll get teleported back to the center). The enemies far away will not know you're there (you can snipe them) and you'll only have to deal with enemies coming from one direction. The meteorites also can't hit you that far out. Also, if you're fast enough, you can use the serious speed and the serious damage to get ONE super-charged SBC hit on Mordekai.
imagine having a, lets say, funeral at that cathedral. or wedding xD ...that will turn into multiple funerals after a marathon trough cathedral were you see monsters, cannons shooting you, semi-naked ladie booty in windows, afro men, launch pads, embryios, etc. xD
Quality was good, so no problem there. Definitely action packed all the way. Nicely played, butt I can't help but wonder who modeled there lower region for the game. Nice curves😉🤣🤣
I love this level so much :D i remember how i play it once - put it on closed multiplayer server, to give myself almost unlimited ammo and make x8 all monster spawns.
