Back then stopping that show would have been bad. I know that sounds heartless it is heartless. But you should never underestimate the fandom of a given media when they get mad they ruin you. "The show must go on"
@@dragoredrox7493 if any fan is willing to trash a business that stopped a show due to one of its own performers dying DURING THE SHOW... that says more about the fan than the business. Sometimes, the show must stop, and restart.
I feel like Jerry Lawler's heart attack forced an abupt end to the heel Michael Cole character. After seeing how Cole really felt about Jerry in the face of possible tragedy, people couldn't just forget that. A good thing that came out of something bad.
Yeah, Cole definitely calmed down a lot after Jerry, I also had gotten a better respect for how he handled himself and cared about Jerry and his welfare
I can remember watching it live as it happened and I gained a huge amount of respect for Cole ever since. Shitty thing was right around that time they were having Jerry lawler do ad spots with fast food being delivered to the commentary desk like sonic and whatnot. I can’t recall if he did one that night but they never did another ad spot like that since.
He really did and it was during the height of his heel run as well. I am so glad that was the moment that turned him face for good because he deserves all the praise in the world for how he handled that
If I remember right, Cole didn't do Commentary for the rest of the night, I speculated it was because he just couldn't do it while the thought of his friend possibly dying weighed on his mind.
@@georgejcox9241was about to comment, cole definitely learned from jr at over the limit. same words(company policy most likely) but i still believe cole learned from jr and prolly king the most. love cole
I legit started crying after that. Owen Hart's death could've & should've been avoided. Either not have him go through with that Blue Blazer gimmick or simply release him. Either way, at least he'd still be alive today.
It really is. I was 13 when it happened and I remember my father telling me it happened the next morning. And now I'm a few years older than Owen was when it happened.
@@RangoTheMercenary strongly disagree. No one deserves to go home with that being the last thing they saw. And Owen wouldn't have wanted the show to stop either. Can hate vince as a person all we want but as a promoter, he is the greatest in any industry.
that was the time when Michael Cole has earned all of our Respect. I respect the hell out of that man for how he handled that situation&keeping us informed. Michael DESERVES to go into the Hall of Fame.
not to mention holding on and still doing the show and keeping his composure, cause you know on the inside he was breaking down in tears that his friend had a heart attack and worried that he might not make it.
Eddie's death tore a hole in so many hearts. I truly do think that had Eddie not died, Chris Benoit would never had spiraled the way he did. It's heartbreaking.
Chris Benoit was turned crazy by multiple concussion. His brain was basicaly broken when it did it. It was an horrible ending for a guy most people that knew him said he was really a nice dude
@@doubleddbeat3418 He was best friends with Eddie, and from what I saw during his Dark Side of The Ring episode, while he always had some issues being a bit abusive in the past, things spiraled when Eddie died. I don't want to ignore the fact that he'd already done some bad stuff previously, but Eddie's death was probably a catalyst for what came next.
it's quite sad that the passing of owen hart still profoundly affects many of us, even after 25 years. however, let us remember him for who he was: a genuinely kind and well-respected wrestler. rip to the 👑 of ❤s.
@@mranonymous00 I'm sure there was no hard feelings in the end over that infamous botch and Stone Cold being the character he was wasn't going to toast with champagne as we would do in the UK but what else but beer.
Considering the physical state of his brain I doubt he could even comprehend everything with Eddie. It makes me mad that Benoit as been scrubbed by WWE when there’s more than enough evidence to suggest that the physical state of his brain was directly caused by head trauma sustained while wrestling. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened and if we forget Benoit it won’t be the last.
Michael Cole will forever have my respect for the way he handled the situation and himself while Jerry was having that heart attack. He could so easily of lost it but he contained himself absolutely perfectly.
The way Michael Cole handled Jerry Lawler situation made me respect and even even more... To stay as calm and as collected as Michael did, not knowing if your coworker will live or pass is shocking. Also, I will never understand why did show continued after Owen Hart passed on... show should have been stopped and proper investigation should have been made and the widow Martha Hart should have been handled little bit more diligence than she was... I also understand why she wants nothing to do with WWE...
@@ayhamahmad2277 Yep unfortunately but legally he should have stopped the show and done in the investigation from a to Z … the fact that the show continued is mind boggling
If I'm not mistaken this happened when Michael Cole was at the height of his heel run. The way he handled the situation and presented himself ended that heel run. He recently stepped down from his management position in WWE so it's sad to say that we may be closing in on his final broadcast in the next year or so. Definitely a future Hall of Famer. And let's not forget, he's still undefeated at Wrestlemania.
Before Jerry’s heart attack, Michael was a heel, but when Jerry had his heart attack, management had no other choice but to turn him into a (baby)face.
I'm going to be brutally honest here, and it's something that I've seen many people comment on similar videos. The 1999 Over the Edge PPV should've ended after Owen's death. The decision to continue the PPV was just ridiculous. I understand the reasoning why Vince decided to continue, to end the PPV and to leave the fans with clear winners (the main event), but Vince should've said, "Guys, cancel the PPV and have the remaining matches be decided on Raw or the next PPV" (which would've been King of the Ring).
Ngl I never even grew up watching Owen Hart but man Henry's poem about him got me tearing up especially hearing how beloved Owen was backstage. Jeff Jarrett just breaking down crying...
@@sxphiflower5318 I know lol just does buddy really think WWE would fake cancer? They weren't even faking it back with Jim Duggan but sure Roman Reigns is the one.
I get that, but the fact that all three were dead should have given them pause. Chris' struggle with depression after Eddie died was not a secret, and when a whole family is found dead like that, in most cases it's a murder-suicide situation. They could have acknowledged it but stayed quiet until they knew more. They meant well, but it was a misstep, and as a result they were forced to go wayyyy in the other direction when the truth came out.
Benoit is the most tragic to me, according to investigations at the time there were multiple factors involved in his decision, including dependence on prescription drugs, mental issues, some of which were onset by multiple hits to the head, and the state of the industry at the time. For a long time WWE didn't care about the people who put their bodies on the line to make them money, and some are willing to argue that they still don't. But rather than deal with their internal issues, they made Benoit the villain. I still think he's one of the greatest the WWE has ever had
But the moment he killed his own family and took his own life, that so-called "tragedy" you speak of turned out to be fake. WWE didn't make him the villain, HE made himself the villain, drugs or not.
@@HansenSebastianthat’s really not a fair assessment. He sacrificed his body to entertain us fans. After doing an autopsy, they discovered his brain was the same as a 90 year old man with dementia. It took Eddie and Benoit to die for WWE to take their wellness policy seriously. And that’s a fucking shame
@@alvinnarciso6130there's this interview that Chris did and i believe it was related to drugs and stuff in the business and he said himself, i don't remember the exact quote but it was something along the lines of the business doesn't turn you ,you do. As in, it is your own responsibility and yeah i agree. At the end of the day, despite multiple factors, he decided to kill his family. Many other wrestlers had CTE and all that and never resorted to killing their family.
@@nzuzovilakazi901 you’re not wrong. But where was WWE when he needed help? They allowed him to spiral out of control. Mind you his best friend also died not too long ago. His mental state is fragile. It wasn’t until he died they started taking concussions seriously. The PG era came and wrestlers has a safer worker environment.
The Raw Show after Eddies Death destroyed me. Took me Weeks to watch Wrestling again. I had so much Hype for Raw vs. Smackdown at that Time. But that was gone and after Weeeks I watched the Show.
At the same time he said he had lukemia, he was also ask extra on his cousin’s(the rock’s) movie that he starred in called FS9 or fast and furious nine. I still speculate to this day whether he had lukemia or not really…
the passing of superstars is what made me appreciate wrestling. it showed me that what we saw was never truly who they were. that they were just hard working people like us who put themselves on the line for our entertainment.
Me, my brother and our mom watched the episode of Raw where Jerry nearly died from his heart attack It was so sobering thinking we and so many others may have watched someone die on air. Then hearing the updates from Cole and no commentary out of respect, it was just surreal Knowing he survived is nothing less than a blessing
I swear the Owen Hart part gets me every time. I saw him and jeff Jarrett wrestle the night before Over The Edge af a house show in Rosemont IL. Im sad to say that i saw his last match
Eddies death hurt me the most. He died when I was in boot camp and a fellow recruit received a news clipping of his passing. 50+ men crying their eyes out. Viva La Raza!
Always respect the fallen (although Chris Benoît is a bit subjective but I will still respect him considering the Loss of Eddie at the time he was not in the right mind at all when that happened)
Jeff Jarretts reaction to Owens death sums it all up. Saddest day in wrestling history. Well done Tk and Aew for doing something to carry on his legacy.
Yeah exactly I heard that he was told to drop the title in the match backstage but didn't want to it is funny how some people say Vince screwed Brett to quote LA Knight Nuh Nuh Lol Bret truly did screw Bret
Actually, no. Bret's WCW deal didn't kick in until December 1. He told Vince he'd drop the belt in Montreal to anyone but Shawn, and Vince said no. So Brett offered to drop it to Shawn on Raw the next night in Ottawa and Vince agreed.
I was 13 when I saw the Live Raw is War when Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero got their contracts and turned on Mick Foley. One of the best episodes ever.
I remember watching the Guerrero tribute. Benoit and Paul Wight were beside themselves, and Lesveque eventually broke down. The first match was Big Show, and Wight's eyes were as red as tomatoes, but he smiled and worked his way through the match, one of the most spirited he ever had.
