Dr. Serizawa goes into Godzilla's Mysterious Underwater Lair Deep in the Atlantic Ocean to use a Nuke to Bring Godzilla Back up to Full Health! Such an Epic Scene!
People have been commenting how Serizawa in the original film died to kill Godzilla while this one died to save him, but both versions died with the same intent: to protect humanity.
Indeed, both were heroes who loved life and had did their best to save it. That's why the Godzilla series will always be relevant for many years to come. Jonah and Emma may have been right about human nature's capacity for evil, but their unwillingness to see what they had become made them the very evil he sought he destroy as both versions of Serizawa show that saving humanity gives it hero that one could inspire others to learn not to repeat history. That's the Godzilla series is all about. He was the hero we needed, but never the one we deserve. While Ghidorah was the villain we deserve, but never the one, not even Earth needed. In many ways, the film showed a great parallel with the Dark Knight as Batman and Harvey Dent represented different circumstances in those events.
He was the only one who TRULY believed in Godzilla. Everyone else feared him, but Serizawa never did. He respected him. He understood him. In a way, I think Serizawa loved Godzilla. That's why he sacrificed himself to bring Godzilla back. As someone who's been a Godzilla fan all my life, this is how I always wanted to see Serizawa die - by Godzilla's side.
You must have watched Gojira 1954, where Serizwa dies alongside the king of monsters. And what is important, neither in 1954 nor in 2019 was he hostile to Godzilla because he understood the fact that both were victims of war - human pride, stupidity and striving for domination at all costs. I personally perceived Serizawa's attitude as compassion and the only right attempt at that time to alleviate the suffering that befell the great monster.
Because he is a true scientist. He pursues knowledge to get a better understanding of the world and all form of life that lives in it. He respect Godzilla not because he's mighty, it's because he is an amazing lifeform beyond anything he has seen and understood him from learning how he live and behave, which is why he believes that coexisting with him was possible and he might become mankind's hope one day against a crisis that they can't handle.
The original Serizawa sacrificed himself to kill Godzilla, in order to save humanity. The new Serizawa sacrificed himself to save Godzilla, in order to save humanity. No matter what side Godzilla is on, Serizawa is will always be ready so give his life for humanity.
in 1954 he understood Godzilla, as they were both victims of war, but he decided that he must defeat him so as not to kill any more humans, in 2019 he knew that Godzilla was the only salvation for humanity, different stories but with the same objective, on the good side
Serizawa did not sacrifice himself in 1954 to kill Godzilla. Anyone saying this has a poor understanding of the movie He *killed himself* to deny the knowledge of Oxygen Destroyer to anyone
There is a Fanfic called Song of the Tiny Ones, According to Michael Dougherty, Godzilla's thoughts when he is revived during the film's plot is a highly canon-accurate interpretation So you're right, Godzilla sent his spirit heavenward with a song of light.
I've seen people say that Godzilla wouldn't have even understood what was going on... His intelligence and level of empathy was established in the first movie. When he had an emergency nap after fighting the male MUTO, he was visibly exhausted and even distraught. He realised what was happening and what Serizawa did for him. People need to pay attention to the movie before they start tearing it apart...
Ignore them. It is clear how intelligent he is. Especially after Dominion. It is show there that he is perfectly sentient and as intelligent as a human. Likely more so because of his age and brain size. But that story confirmed that he does know what a Nuke is and what it does.
@@ProfChaos1985i think he also meant when godzilla saw them all and didn’t do anything but roar. If he was this animal , most likely would’ve seen them as a threat and done something but he didn’t. Also in kotm, looks straight at them, doesn’t do a thing but look away because there not who he’s after
brainsize doesnt matter how smart and intellectuel u are, but yeah i havent seen any piece of Godzilla just from shorts i can see hes a goodzilla :D@@Cloudsouth
What always stood out to me about this scene... after Godzilla comes back... he gives the people on the Boat this look.... that just screams. "Now.... are we Done with *your* bullshit?...." loved it. Makes Serizawa's death mean something when the beast they tried to kill is willing to overlook something.
Godzilla: “Ok, humans, I’m gonna go to Boston and deal with that three-headed a-hole that you all woke up from the ice nap I put him in. You can tag along, if you like, but stay the hell outta my way…”
Nah there's a comic about the human race that build a temple for him, and Godzilla like that person and remember them so he sleep in that temple until Godzilla lost connection and care for humanity once more So i'm sure there's some who yeeted his nose before
...The part at the end could be interpreted as Godzilla both unleashing a roar to the heavens to herald his return... And as a Sign of respect and a cry of grief for the one person amongst the humans who truly understood him.
This will remain my most favorite scene in all of the MonsterVerse. Serizawa's sacrifice to save Godzilla, the ancient city, the music in this scene, Serizawa walking up to Godzilla and putting his hand on Godzilla's snout saying his farewell in Japanese, the slight smile he gives him seconds before the bomb explodes, the raw emotion of it all. It's perfect. By far one of the best scenes in the Godzilla Franchise. KOTM might be underrated to many, but it has heart and respect for the history of the franchise. And THAT'S why as time goes on, it will be recognized more and more.
Agreed its a very underappreciated movie that deserved better box office than it received. I do hope in time it's gets more respect for how much the movie did right when it comes to godzilla lore. It's the best movie in the monsterverse hands down.
@@JarMar3296 t be fair, it was going up against The Avengers: Endgame, pretty much the end of the MCU’s quality story telling. Silver lining, in home sales KotM did dethrone Endgame.
critic: "he should of left the nuke timer for an hour and left, so dumb" me, an intellectual: *"the radiation was burning his insides and his death was honorable and he took off his helmet to connect humanity with godzilla, it was a touching moment that should stay."*
Unfortunately the critics didn’t understand half of the stuff put into this film. Only Godzilla fans understood it, which is why we appreciated the movie
Even if he did that with is suit on and got back to the sub, which he honestly could have done, he would have died from radiation poisoning slowly and painfully and it would have had less of an impact.
*nuke goes off* Atlantis: WAT TEH FA- Godzilla: my home.....it's gone....... Me: *drinks soda* WTF ATLANTIS NOOOOOOOO.....YOU BLEW IT UP......GOD DAMN YOU
Yeah thinking about it now the only great things about Atlantis are the treasure of Atlantis, Poseidon's tomb, it was advanced, it's really big, people still can't find it and that's basically it.....wait a minute Atlantis had the truth of what happened to every event in....history.......WE NEED TO FIND ATLANTIS NOT JUST BECAUSE OF ALL THE KNOWLEDGE AND GOLD IT HAS BUT WHY DID THE LIBRARY OF ALEXANDRIA BURNT DOWN.......oh and because the orb of the moon is in the treasure room too it controls the tides and the water of the world we can stop global warming.......what I care for earth I'm not a hippie but I'm a Catholic.......awkward
I guess it was a very emotional moment for Serizawa who spent his life studying and admiring Godzilla and gave his life to save him, touching him as his final act and saying goodbye to a dear friend
I've read many of the comments here below this vid and here's my take on it. This scene for me is a very touching one, it shows the amount of love Serizawa has for Godzilla. One thing I noticed is when Serizawa places his hand on Godzilla's muzzle and they have eyecontact with one another, Godzilla has tears in his eyes. It's subtle but to me it shows recognition and understanding between them. When Godzilla resurfaces and sends his atomic breath into the air, it's obvious to me that the King is sending Serizawa heavenward. The amount of emotion here is unmistakable, to go above and beyond for a creature such as Godzilla, there has to be some sort friendship there. Godzilla is far more than just a simple killing machine, he's strong, he's fast, he's intelligent and shows how tactical he can be in a fight. He understands what the humans were doing to help him in the fight with Ghidorah. I just think some people don't the big guy enough credit when it comes to how much understanding, intelligence and emotion he actually shows.
Serizawa- *Nukes himself in order to save the Earth last hope against the False King and goes down with honer. Godzilla- *Rises from the water and fires a beam of Atomic Fire breath into the sky as what seems to be a "flex" but in truth is a king sending off a brave man to the afterlife the only way a king knows how.
There is a Fanfic called Song of the Tiny Ones, According to Michael Dougherty, Godzilla's thoughts when he is revived during the film's plot is a highly canon-accurate interpretation So you're right, Godzilla sent his spirit heavenward with a song of light.
Well technically a flex of honor the flex is he is back to f*ck sh*t up while in honor sending the noble man who saved him, his soul goes up towards heaven.
@@jeremiahkirkman100 Exactly. Thats my thinking on the upcoming movie. And then maybe their common enemy becomes someone from outer space like Gigan or maybe even mecha godzilla.
People keep saying we don't need human character and just more Titans. However this scene is such a great example how great human character adds a lot to the movie. The feeling and emotion in this scene is definitely the best out of any Monsterverse movies so far, by a long shot. Dr.Serizawa will be missed for sure.
The music in this scene really contributes to the sacredness and intimacy of a human and monster bond. A sense of true understanding is exchanged, along with a great respect and admiration that transcends species.
He didn't save Godzilla. Godzilla was already recovering. It just would have taken a long time. But he was recovering. They even say it in the film that it could take decades for him to get back to full strength. But he was in fact on the mend. You can't save someone, or something, when it doesn't need you to live. All Serizawa did was expedite the process manifold. But that's not "saving" anything.
When I saw this in theaters, I had chills run through my entire body. because of the score, the visuals, everything. I don’t know how anyone would not like this scene. It’s perfect. Showing the connection between human and Titan. I would gladly do the same for godzilla. My last moments among such an incredible being.
After reading the Godzilla Dominion comic. (prequel to GvK). Godzilla remembers Serizawa's sacrifice and the time when ancient humans populated his temple. He is able to distinguish human actions and is in tune with the entire planet. Smarter than most people would think.
This scene has a really great message, serizawa is holding his father's watch from when the first bomb landed on Hiroshima. In a way serizawa is conquering his demons and letting go of what happened (nuclear warfare). He is saying goodbye to Godzilla because he is at peace
Legendary Cabbage not to mention the message he gave us before departing: “Nature always finds a way of balancing itself. Question is: what part will we play?”
i dont think i could have ever found a worse take in my entire life until this moment everything you said hurts to even try to reply to. you are so removed from human life i can't even begin.
I don't know but if I had to guess then part of it is when you talked about saying goodbye because he is at peace like...what? Dude, if I'm gonna die by killing myself to help an "old friend" then I'm probably gonna be sad that, for one, I'm about to die and don't generally want to but have to and, for another, won't be able to see that friend again, at least for a long time. You just kinda jumped ahead and applied some thought or symbolism to the character's last moments and didn't really seem to try and put yourself in that situation. Best I can tell just from watching this scene and not even the entire movie is that he is saying goodbye to his friend because he is about to die, and that already hits hard enough where it needs to without overcomplicating it by being the bystander looking in.
I think this scene was made to honor the late Haruo Nakajima for when he went and saw the first *new* Godzilla in 2014 and saw him on screen at the airport scene for the first time. He was allegedly heard saying "There he is, my old friend." Brings it all full circle and I shed a tear because of it.
One of the many cool things about this scene is that serizawa says saraba instead of sayonara.. saraba is used when the goodbye is final and inevitable. Which is obviously the case here since serizawa is gonna die.
I know he didn’t get to do much, but Joe Brody in the first movie was compelling, too. Not to mention that he was played by Bryan Cranston. So that’s a plus. While I kinda liked Ford, I kinda wish that the roles were reverse. And it was Ford that died at the beginning and Joe was the one that had to make his way back to San Francisco to his family, effectively making Joe the main character. It would’ve been a good twist to kill off Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Who you think is the main character.
@Dave Harow dude, I know. But see, almost every movie after first transformers were horrible. But I enjoyed watching all of them. Last night I watched 6 underground. Terrible movie but worth watching.
Growing up and watching the movies then hearing that classic theme music and roar as Godzilla returns....thank you for making an old man feel like a kid again ❤️
I was lucky to see the original Gojira from 1954 just before the premiere of KOTM. It was a real emotional shock. I did not expect something like this. One of the three most touching scenes in the entire history of this franchise.
2 comments mostly the same right next to each other but I know you’re sis original because I have my comments based off of newest to latest and you’res is 1st
Imagine you've had possibly the worst day of your life, your enemy has beaten you up, a bomb has hurt you, your at home, exhausted, your lying on your bed. Thinking that you might die. Then suddenly, a Lego man comes walking to your face and he touches your nose. Realising he has made an effort to try and save you. What would you be thinking about that?
Serizawa respected Godzilla for all that he was trying to do to see Godzilla honor his death with an atomic breath to the sky was the ultimate sign of respect for believing in him And now look at him Him and kong fought a common enemy even after those two were trying to kill each other and now a new titan will awoken in Godzilla X Kong a new empire and they gonna fight at first amd then team up to face a new threat the monsterverse is becoming the best thing ever.
@@snaald8552 the general audience and fans absolutely loved it. The critiques like the twats they're didn't, and I wonder who tf makes those nunces critiques in the first place
I’ve been a fan of Godzilla and I must say that this whole scene got me excited for the next battle. The way Godzilla came out was like ahhhhhhh! You can tell he’s pumped up!❤❤❤❤❤
Coming back to this scene with a newfound appreciation for the fact that Serizawa parted with Godzilla as a friend. Not a god, not a monster, a friend.
One of the worst things about G vs K. Why even have Serizawa's son in the movie in the first place? You could have had someone from Charles Dance' group pilot the monster and it wouldn't affect the plot in anyway.
That was from the first movie. It’s not necessarily a nod to history. It was his grandfathers watch and the grandfather was wearing when the bombs dropped. This is explained in the first movie.
The way Dr. Serizawa says 'goodbye' is really indicative. He says 'saraba' which is a very old expression (think samurai times) for saying goodbye and perhaps the closest equivalent expression is 'adios' and in English similar to 'farewell'. It is very poetic and like 'farewell' in its normal sense also used like that ... as a last goodbye.
My favorite scene in the entire movie...especially that walk Serizawa takes up those ancient steps...like a final honor granted to him as a privilege for all his faith in...and lifelong dedication to studying Godzilla...
Plus don't forget about the parallels between Toho's Dr. Serizawa and Legendary Studios Dr. Serizawa. But this scene is both emotional and breathtaking
@The TyrantDemon Yes indeed. In fact, the most emotional scene in any Godzilla film for me is the conversation that Serizawa has with Ogata in regards to the Oxygen Destroyer and it's use in the 1954 original 'Gojira'. I made a video using the audio from that scene and combined it with a famous speech by Bernard Baruch regarding the perils of the atomic age. I should upload it...
@Troy Garza This is just a short slide with the audio of Serizawa and Bernard Baruch set to 3 images...it's just a sketch for an idea...in the final version I'll include images of the Oxygen Destroyer as well as images of both Serizawa and Baruch. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IaozRCtEYko.html
Probably the first time anyone had ever referred to Godzilla as "friend". Seriously, Godzilla by all accounts has one dreary existence. He has no friends or even companions among the other Titans, barring Mothra of course, he is hated and treated as a menace by almost all of mankind, when he once lived in harmony with them, and he has lived hundreds of thousands if not MILLIONS of years of seclusion, loneliness and violence. Then, at his weakest point, a lone human courageously enters his lair (which is highly radioactive, might I add), places a nuclear device at his feet (his "medicine", you could say) and even places his hand on his snout, calling him "old friend". That must really move him. He always thought that humans would never accept him as they once did, and now he's getting just that- acceptance. To hear a human call him "friend" must be truly uplifting. Wouldn't you say?
If you look closely at Godzilla's eye, you can see that it begins to get a little watery. IMO, I feel like Godzilla was trying to hold back tears in that moment
@@Pumpkin525 It would make him more relatable. Michael was trying to get us to have the same emotional feeling we would have with kong, with Godzilla. So I don't blame him
I like how serizawa sacrificed himself for godzilla and Loki sacrificed (basically) himself to Thor and it gives a great reference to both movies. Nice joke
In the first Godzilla film Dr. Serizawa sacrificed himself to *kill* Godzilla. In this Godzilla film Dr. Serizawa sacrificed himself to *save* Godzilla. That is some good story telling right there.
The amount of honor and respect in this scene is what made it so perfect! Take to the consideration that this probably the first time in thousands of years he's had a visitor to his home! Serizawa died a hero and a legend to give humanity its greatest hope in the face Ghidora!
Other fun fact, this is the only the second time in history that someone has touched Godzilla. The first being the female main character who caught a ride on his back in Godzilla vs Megaguirus.
When he was looking at the humans once he got to the surface, I believed Godzilla was trying to say, "I am doing this because of your friend's sacrifice. I do not plan to waste it and I hope you do the same"
Mine is different,I took it as "Next time you do some shit like that I will atomic breath you" him shooting up the sky with his atomic breath was like the last warning for me.
Godzilla: I am doing this because of your friend... And I owe my life to him even though he's gone...I'll help you one last time...and if you cant...then stay the FCK out of my way and watch... Godzilla: *swims and smash tail on water* Baby I'm back..... In my own words I think
The transition to the deep trombones of the Godzilla theme... Right when he makes eye contact with the sub. Gave me such chills when seeing it in theaters.
When some say he could have set a 1 hour timer and left understand the radiation was burning his inside yo pieces. Taking off the helmet and fully connecting with Godzilla. This is way more peaceful and honorable death than running out. This movie was far too heavily criticized. The sound track when godzillas powered up is amazing
Honestly, the critics of this film were just a bunch of drama-loving, retarded, bastards, who just couldn't understand this film. Honestly, I think every kaiju fan agrees that this film was a masterpiece
@@subhasishghosh6924 yeah, my favorite is some idiot comparing it too the movie, "Crawl", saying there both about giant reptiles and ending the article with, " But they are very different movies and should not be compared. " Like WTF was the point then?
Even in the original (1955) movie, Serizawa feared his own creation (The Oxygen Destroyer) more than he feared Godzilla, believing that his creation could be more dangerous than the monster that was wrecking Tokyo. This is a good way to end the character (Serizawa) in respect to the original character as well.
You know, I find it ironic in King Of The Monsters that Dr Serizawa was the one to revive Godzilla when he was the one who killed the original Godzilla in the 1954 film with the Oxygen Destroyer. It really has come full circle…
@@idrinkyourmilkshake845 dude its 92 in audience score but critics really hated the movie well fuck the critics i went to the theatres to see KOTM and i will see GVSK in theatre as well
Despite Aaron Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen not returning for the sequel, i'm so glad they kept Ken Watanabe as Serizawa back to the sequel. In my opinion, Serizawa is the heart of the movie, he truly cares that these monsters are not really monsters that killed people. He's the likeable human character in the movie
There is no reason for elle and brody to returns as MC as their problem is solved. As for Brody, he is soldier so he might be fighting in joint operation to fight titans offscreen
