I've come to the conclusion that the basic shapes is all that's needed to create ANY sound. Unless you want to do a wavetable growl then that's a different story
@@isthiscash ... no? It's literally just that. Two saw oscillators and a lowpass filter with an envelope. About as simple as you can make it, there's no steps you can leave out here if you wanna make a pluck.
Wow, even though the recipe is pretty much the exact same recipe for any prog. pluck, the way serum produces the sounds is way different than what I've been hearing in sylenth. The same pizza, but with a different type of dough I guess.
2 videos in and I've already learned a ton, made some cool sounds and fully realized why the word on the streets is Serum is the easiest synth to start learning sound design. Thanks for the knowledge
Cool stuff you have, give me whole different understanding of sound design with serum. Plan was to learn about sound design in2021 and your tutorials is exactly what i needed. Keep up these. Ill defenetly buy your preset pack. Cool stuff
Hey Tom! I have been watching your tutorials on both Serum and Massive for a few months now, I have to say that your tutorials have taken my sound design to the next level! I have made my own little version of this pluck and am thinking about making a song out of it. I was wondering if there is a way where I can open up the cutoff using an envelope, either done outside of Serum or inside of it. I saw you do this manually in the beginning while showcasing the sound... I really want to implement this into my track and not sure how! Keep up the good work and hope you can be back posting tutorials soon! Thanks, Spencer
Great video. Finally I've found a tutorial that tells me 'how' to make the sound. Can you make a tutorial for Porter Robinson - Shelter? I really wanted to copy that synth sound but it is too hard to do it on my own.
Hey SynthHacker, it would be cool if you could do a short preview of the sound right at the beginning.. I think that's what most people need to get an insight.
Has anyone else had issues with this tutorial? Has serum been updated somehow? This is extremely simple and I've gone through it 4 times now and the sound I'm getting isn't even close!
+Chen Boi Agreed. Kind of sad how many people treat this process. It's like asking an artist to teach you to sketch "using yellow paper and a blue pen please", because that's all you have. As if a black drawing on white paper would be impossible to transfer over yourself.
Dude your videos are helpful , but Ive got 2 things to ask from you, if you can just play some chords while doing some changes so we would know what sounds are being made , and lastly if you can change "little bit" to like a figure or something when you are adjusting some of the values. Thanks bro, keep up.
think you could do the bass in skrillex remix of gta - red lips? either in fm8 or serum i dont know how massive will work and i cant for my life figure it out been spending hours with both synths trying it all i know is that its fm. love the tutorials big up from sweden!
Can I just say how great it is to play your videos at .5 speed and pretend you're shitfaced drunk. Awesome tutorials, but makes me laugh the whole way through. Good stuff
YOU just made my night! ahaha thats really funny. i stopped reading the comments after yours. laughed a little. then went up and replayed it back at .5 speed and instantly bursted out laughing!!!! haha thx
great work! Any chance you could recreate the humm bass (it sounds like a humm :D first appears at 0:31 ) at skrillex & must die's track VIPs ? That bass is very interesting i think...
Hello synthhacker, i watch a lot of you videos and they have proved very helpful and i learnt many stuffs on serum. I have a noob question though that has been bothering me for a while and i wonder if you can help me. Is there a way to lower the attack level in any of serum envelopes? Compairing it to massive where you have a level knob for the attack part of any envelope. Thank you Keep posting gold.. Kind regards From Mauritius
hi, sorry this is 3 years late HAHA but i had the same problem and it turned out that i mapped the macro to the cutoff instead of the envelope, hopefully that helps :')
Hi Miles, that's just the serum visuals each pluck is being triggered by new midi notes. I think it's just because the sound doesn't fully release before the next notes are played.
Thank you for the awesome vid! Also have a question you might be able to help with - using Logic, after making this patch and writing out the midi, Serum will refuse to play certain midi notes. Particularly the Emajor chord (second in progression)... I wrote the midi in 1/8th notes, with no space in between, but for some reason that one part in the progression would go silent, as if the midi wasn't triggering serum at all. I had to create a little space in between the notes for it to work, and it still sounds pretty similar, but any advice/insight on why this would be happening? I originally thought it could be a voicing problem, or notes were overlapping, but it doesn't make any sense to me.
0:32 how to do the arp thingy, with the repeating notes? :D Is that done in serum, or in the daw, with a separate plugin? of course I could do it by filling in the chords one by one. But I'm lazy hehe
How does one track or midi control measures of a given track with the effect or multiple of effects. For example; the cutoff build starting in :40 for example. I know that's probably a simple mixing factor but struggling to get that done on cubase....terminology? I have none lol
Hey synthhacker! question. i recreated this sound but i cant get the sequencing? it only plucks a single note but doesnt repeat any suggestions on trouble shooting?
well, you could have previewed the sound during the making part, easy for this sound to reproduce at home but if it was more complicated I'd be pissed.
