Dr. Mark Kovacs research indicates that the common factor amongst the biggest servers on the ATP and WTA tour is how quickly the back hip goes from storing energy to releasing it. But how do we achieve this body position? And what are some common pitfalls to avoid while working towards getting there? We also cover how to practice and the role of motor programming. Thank you for being here!

Yes, you had! But now that I’ve seen you serve a little bit you’ve regressed to a motion closer to the “before.” Keep in mind that the changes we made were only temporary and that you need to practice getting into that position again and again for it to become automatic. But you are a golf coach so you probably know this 😉

Hello Malhar, great video as always. Were you directly trained by Steve Smith with the Great Base?

Hey Daniloh, thanks for the comment and kind words. Not really, I don't want to inflate credentials. I spent about two to three months doing sessions-I learnt so much. But I credit him and Andy for setting me down a path of learning and am forever thankful to them. Today I use stuff from Braden's book, the knowledge and info I learned from GreatBase (Steve & Andy), and other researchers in biomechanics, tennis, and how to practice etc. to construct my approach. Hope that makes sense. You can learn more about me here if interested: www.beforeandaftertennis.com/about

@@BeforeandAfterTennis I assumed you had some conection to them based on the language that you use to analyse players' strokes. Those sessions with them were they in person or remotely? And you worked as a player (on your own strokes) or as a coach?

in person, and as a player. Have you visited?@@danilohsguimaraes

For pinpoint stance is the weight distribution the same, 60% right leg and 40% left leg (right handed player)?
@BeforeandAfterTennis
@BeforeandAfterTennis 2 месяца назад
On pinpoint, you have more of a risk of over-loading the front foot. So try to get more distribution through the back hip and leg. The percentage figures should probably be used as a rough guide-there are almost no absolutes with this
@topspin1715
@topspin1715 2 месяца назад
@@BeforeandAfterTennis Got it. This explains why I seem to struggle with my serve. As I uncoil I bet I have too much weight on the front leg so the right leg becomes more passive and as you mentioned with right hip being a key power source, I am losing out on a lot of power
