Great video, I’m always worried that I’ll encounter an off-leash dog that will attack me and my SDit (he’s pretty small). I have a kubaton and a spike collar but the items you suggested would give me better peace of mind. Thank you!
My service dog was attacked a few weeks ago. It was terrifying and the healing process will be long. I've blocked an attack in the past and took the bite in my own leg. The latest attack, however, happened in an in instant. I was bitten, but my dog was full on attacked and injured. I relive the moment of the attack frequently, but I don't know what I could have done in the moment. It was just too fast. What do you do when the aggressive dog is already latched on to your dog and tearing them up? I had nothing but my own body, and it wasn't enough.
Another question: what are some ways to deter an attack using my own body and voice? My neighborhood has a gun problem (I've had one pointed at me in the past). Pulling pepper spray or a horn from my bag or pockets might put my dog and I in more danger. Probably not a common problem, but still. What do you do if you don't have tools?
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that happened to y’all! I’m not sure where you are but if a baton is legal that would give you away to force a dog back without using your leg. The batons are illegal in some states so check before you get one. I didn’t include it in this video because you could easily kill something with it 😳 As far as not reaching into your pockets, the pocket alarm could just go on your keychain or on the end of your leash so could a regular pepper spray (the one that is A tube shape) the 3in1 tool has a wrist strap too. If it was on your leash hopefully no one would think you were drawing a gun. I have been held at gunpoint too but it was by my husband in our home 🙃 I never thought about how it could look pulling something out of my pocket. That is a really good point though so I’m glad you mentioned it. I really don’t know how I would body block from an attack though because no matter what you’re going to get bitten & hurt. Sorry I don’t have any better ideas 😑
@@JenFarrer I want to say thank you. I took your advice. I found a can of pepper spray that clips to a keychain. I hung it on a lariat with a whistle and poop bags and wear it every time I walk my dog now. Tonight...I used it. A big dog jumped out of the shadows and attacked mine. I couldn't push him away. But I remembered the pepper spray...and *it worked* My dog is fine. The other dog will be fine in a few hours, and will probably be kept on leash in the future. Thank you. ❤
