although it's not necessary people have asked me to create a patreon so they can donate to the money I spent on the channel and I do appreciate the help so here is the link to my patreon if anybody's interested / fordbossme
Taking pride in your work and making sure your customers happy and on the road without breakdowns is what makes mechanics good mechanics desirable and hard to find horror stories I hear just drive me nuts to the point sometimes where I just want to quit and find another job but without economic status this is still the best job to do work is not running out it's picking up
It takes years and years to build a reputation in a shop , just how it is, don’t forget Rich is probably surrounded by techs some of which have been doing this a long time and are really efficient and knowledgeable. My last dealership job when I left there I was probably in the middle of us technicians as far as capability and knowledge. I was only there 2 1/2 years, I earned the respect of the master techs that were there 20 plus years one job at a time. Rich is not only a great tech he takes pride in everything that he touches.if he does it ,he does it right. Remember flat rate warranty work at a dealership is a hard life. You have to rush if you take your time you won’t make any money so you have to strike a balance between speed and doing a good job. It’s one of the reasons why I am a fleet maintenance mechanic, I work on a variety of things equipment cars trucks , specialized equipment.I try to do every job as if it’s my own vehicle.
@@JohnDiMartino I've never worked at a dealership just to give you a little bit of insight on my history I don't have a RU-vid channel don't want to make one it would take too much of my time that I don't want to give away from my family but I work on and have been working on not just Fords Chevrolets Hondas Chryslers dodges Porsches Land rovers Mercedes BMW...... What I have found over many years is that you have mechanics that are specific to one job only and they tend to stick to that one job or one brand. I am very aware that most of you understand that a real mechanic mindless if you don't have the certain data you need to work on it that's a different situation. But it's the same principle you can work on any brand if you have the diagnostic tables wiring diagrams and diagnostic repair at your fingertips an engine is an engine and regardless of the brand they pretty much all work the same way.,....... Story from the past I was looking to hire a technician he said he works on Mercedes and Honda only he cannot do diesels... I asked him can you do brakes on a diesel. He said no they're a completely different system
Wow, how funny I was actually looking on getting a f250 when I got your notification that you posted a video. Excellent attention to detail. If only we had more people like you in the shop. Have a bless night.
Cloth tape is amazing. I also came across some stuff called mastic tape. It sticks to itself and stretches. I use it for external harness stuff like the filter under the truck you did. It's waterproof and moisture proof.
Nice for the tech to become the teacher. Thank you. Of cource OCD me locked on the 6.7 oil filler cap on backwards. LOL Don’t be “ That Guy “ people. I may know someone who leaned over and maybe broke the #3 small line connector. Now I see a Ford has an enforcement plastic bracket.
first one of those i did on a 2018, had 15k on it, the drain valve broke. it was the first filter change. was so packed with mud, even up inside around the seal. local dealer actually had one in stock.
I'm going to add this I don't know how many of you guys watching work on many diesels I've been doing this for 17 years I'm not giving any tips recommendations or whatever not some of these are extremely hard to start after you change both filters there are recommendations for turning the key on 10 times most of these I change the oil while I'm doing services the easiest thing that I have found to do is change the lower filter crank it let it run for 5 minutes cut it off check your oil if that's what you did change your upper filter let it run for 5 minutes cut it off check your oil again this has helped so many times on the problems especially on a 6.4 with the air that gets into the system that prevents a start initially you're also not supplying your injection pump with adequate lubrication which is putting excessive wear on it during cranking just saying
I don't know that that would necessarily be the easiest but if that's what works for you then great on these newer ones they flow pretty good and I've never had a problem doing it this way with changing both filters but again there's more than one way to do any of this this is just my way to do it and it works for me with the least amount of work and the cleanest for me
@@FordBossMe brother from one mechanic to another it's whatever you're most comfortable with I'm trying to get your customers car back as fast as you can I love your videos you have actually taught me some things that I didn't know all the love brother
Went to ford to get my oil changed on my 2020 6.7 since my truck came with a maintenance plan. While waiting on the truck the lady came over and said to me that my fuel filter and cabin air filter also needed to be changed. Then proceeded to show me a picture of a cabin air filter dirty with a leaf on it. Crazy part is I changed the fuel filter before going there and my glove box was locked. I only gave them the fob without the metal key. So they couldn't even access the cabin air filter and they would've seen the filter was clean. I get the truck back and it's blowing only hot a/c for 30 minutes for some reason. Then it starts to blow cold while at the dealer talking to tech trying to figure out why. He goes to open glove box saying my filter is dirty and can't open the door cause it's still locked. I open it up and remove the cabin air filter and taken pictures of it slightly dirty but nothing like the picture they showed me. Naturally the tech had no words and neither did the service manager. At minimum learn the change basic stuff like lights, filters, and fluids on a vehicle. Thanks for the videos and the knowledge. Wish all the techs was honest like you.
All them Fuel Filters starting in 2017 i believe, their all a pain in the ass have a two filter system ..... and we need to have a sit down with the ford Engineers, what the hell is with the 7MM bolt heads i know they use to use one on the upper filter housing that locked into place then the 7MM bolt ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,LOL.......LOL great video my brother!!!!!
One Saturday working at the main I had a young guy come to the back counter with that yellow drain valve in his hand asking for a new one. He managed to tear it out of the filter housing. I told him the only way to get it was with the complete housing. The service advisor told me to give him the whole unit because he would do a warranty claim on it. Not sure it it went thru Ford or not.
ill zip them down with a driver then snug them up with 1/4 ratchet . little wipe of grease on the gasket makes for good seal . SPE makes a billet replacement for that injector return fitting aswell as the drain valve
2017 was the first year for the rear cabin filters - my trucks will not stop draining if the fuel tank is full so i disconnect the upper fuel feed hose ! and specially be careful removing the smaller line on the underhood filter they break easy and will set you back
Thought you had lead my astray for a couple of seconds, no fuel filter in front of fuel tank like you show, mine is a 8 foot box dually the filter is about at the center of the fuel tank. Other than that the filter changes were pretty simple. Thanks
Nice job. What are you thoughts on the diesel with DEF and the complicated pollution controls? For the regular Joe, is it worth it? I can see if you're always towing, but as the fixer what do you think?
I'll be doing this service very soon. Where did all that fluid and residue come from that was on the outside of the housing when you started? Whoever over tightened the bolts also threw in a non oem "Taiwan" filter😔. That clam shell clip that's included should already be existing on all 2019 and newer.
Don't put your foot on the brake and do the same thing push button 30-second push off push button 30 seconds push off.... same thing The only difference is you're pushing the button instead of turning the key just do not put your foot on the brake and that's how you prime the fuel system
one that stuff is expensive and number two if there's no problem that begin with there's no reason to fix something that's not broken and number three if diesel does end up getting on the connector going to wash that stuff out of there anyway it's a degreaser
Rather than cloth tape dive X-Treme Tape TPE-X36ZLB Silicone Rubber Self Fusing Tape a try. They use it underwater in deepwater water well pumps. The tape melds together to make a permanent bond. Best stuff on the planet. Also, take a look at DEOXIT Gold G5 Electrical Contact cleaner.
I use what I have at the dealership and I'm not going to buy extra material out of my own pocket for something that I'm not going to end up getting paid for so I use what I have but for my personal project shirt I'll look into that not for something that's for work definitely not
@@FordBossMe Dive XTreme sounds extremely expensive. I wouldn't want to give it away either. There was a TSB that had some cloth tape in it and techs had rolls of that stuff in their tool boxes for a long time. Free tape is the best.
@@morticus7650 yep that's one of the Quick Lane guys it would have made a help him and he never seen anybody install the fuel filters before so he offered to record me while I did a little tutorial on it and he learned as well
I deal with many hotshot drivers to be honest with you it kind of depends on what side of the Mississippi River you're on the folks that are on the east side they are having great luck changing their filters every other oil change the folks on the west side of the Mississippi when they come back to me they are trashed every single oil change not sure if that helps you or not I have 17 currently six sevens that I work on on regular maintenance every single week and this is what I do for them so they don't have issues
It actually started unsubscribing people from me weeks ago and every time I like somebody's comment I have to go back and check because it will take the like away
How is it "this" 2020 6.7l has a tranny fluid dipstick and mine doesn't. My 2011 6.7l had one but now I have to crawl under the truck to check the tranny fluid level. Dumbest idea (okay at least one of them) Ford ever had to do away with the tranny dipstick.
Send me the link? I've got a bunch of videos right now I'm going to be loading very controlled because I don't want to flood RU-vid with them right now especially the electrical problems I've been having with these heavy duty trucks is unreal and I keep getting stuff that other technicians have misdiagnosed and thrown parts at and they cant find the what the problem is but I end up finding it
@@FordBossMe touche lol. I just wish I followed my own advice more, back in school an instructor and marksman warned me of repeated petroleum exposure causes slight movement in hands and shakiness...I did not listen but now can definitely see it when I look down a scope after 20+ years of wrenching
@@FordBossMe I've also seen bacteria blooms in diesel cause infections in small cuts. People don't realize bacteria grows in diesel and this is why biocide is good ever so often. But love the channel keep doing your thing just let the people who don't know the risk I guess. I like you always just try to do the right thing. Some of the things we see other people do is down right criminal
@@FordBossMe Boss, I was a jet mechanic in the USAF, and worked on cars for many years afterward.. I never wore gloves. Wish I had since I now have Chronic Lymphocytic Lieukemia. My Oncologist says it is due to long exposure to petroleum products. How he knows I have no idea but the fact remains, I have it. When we mention gloves we have your best interest in mind. We want you around brother.
I mean everything did come apart pretty easy in the grand scheme of things they just fight you a little bit and if I sprayed the lines with anything it would be Motorcraft silicone
That has got to be the worst design filter I have ever seen.why can,t they copy a class 8 truck design easy water drain, loosen a collar ring lift off clear bowl replace element filter prime filter and job done
