In this video I will service my first Breitling vintage watch. It is a beautiful Breitling Premier with a full gold case. The caliber inside is the famous Venus 178 that equipped many of the Breitling chronographs from this era. This is a very beautiful watch and hopefully it will run nicely again.

Impressing to be able to understand the function of all the parts in such a complext watch and to be able to put it together again!

Absolutely beautiful watch. I think if Breitling realest this today, it would be an absolute hit. A lot of companies have been going to their back catalogues for inspiration.

Way to complicated for me. Whenever i see one of these i always remember an elderly gentleman i saw on a train in Switzerland one evening while on holiday there. The train was completely full so i made space for him to sit down. As he sat down the cuff of his coat moved up his arm revealing the most beautifull Breitling i ever saw. It was an old watch like this one. Enjoyed very much.

That is a fine fine vintage chronograph there FWC. Always when I see your final results I feel joy, and sometimes I also feel envy that I don't have such a watch of my own. Today, I feel envy, my only "old" chrono is the popular Chinese 1963 pilot chrono. But it's not even old, just an old Venus design 🙂

@@FrenchWatchCollector That's very kind thank you. There is a Tissot SeaStar with a Lemania movement that I have my eye on if only I can persuade the seller to lower their asking, so who knows, I may need to call on you!

Beautiful video of a beautiful watch: thank you so much. Who would have thought - after looking at ghastly Breitling watches for the last decades - that they once produced classy watches a long time ago? One more reason to cherish vintage watches. However, 50% less talking would take you a long way ... not offense, but I was really tempted to watch your wonderful video without sound ...

@SideWalkAstronomyNetherlands
Nice Gronochraaf as we say in the Netherlands :) We pronounce the g/ch as the Greek ch or Scotish ch, not like a "k", like the Engrish and French do. Nice Ants :)

Thank you for this detailed video. Can you please tell me what kind of material you are using in the pin vice at 13:15 to polish the pivots of the wheels? Seems to be some kind of rubber.

I use some eve flex stick that you can find on cousin uk for exemple

What is that thing you used to clean the pivots of the escape wheel and pallet fork? Is it some kind of wood? Something like balsa or wine cork?

Do you need this special tool to remove the one chronograph wheel? Or is that just for simplicity?
@FrenchWatchCollector
@FrenchWatchCollector Год назад
The wheel is friction mounted so you need to use some force to pull it up. The tool just make sure you pull it straight up and it prevents from bending the wheel
