Good on you for starting a career. That is one of the best things you can do. As a plumber you can always provide for you family. A labor job like mining can be lost any day.

Your wisdom is so profound. And this is coming from a tattooed girl with dread locks, with a huge dog, 2 cats, who people judge all the time, until they realize what kind of person i am. Im a single mother, with a 13 yr old severly autistic son, whose father is MIA, and its ok. I nearly died in a car accident in 2017, fractured my spine and neck, and walked away 23 days later. I have a masters degree, and i dont care. Im more educated than all of the state welfare workers who dictate my life and treat me horribly. Things change when i tell them all of the letters i earned behind my name And i struggle. I really really struggle. Alot. I was a very successful Emergency Room therapist for 20 yrs. Now i pick up dog poop to earn money to pay for my autistic sons horse lessons. I take care of a womans house and cats, who is a literally rocket scientist, and I have no shame. Why? Because i hustle. Because i take care of my people. If a man showed up for me and my son? I would make him breakfast every morning. Id pack his lunch. Id wash his clothes. Id be like i will be your badass bitch. What you need? I am 100% ok being alone. I've raised my son all by myself. I've honestly never met a man who isn't either scared of me, or who isn't trying to manipulate me to get thier needs met in emotionally unhealthy ways. No man is responsible for my situation. Men love me for the same reasons they end up fearing me. I'm the safest place a man could be. I used to be an athlete who would walk by men and have them say "DAMN." But my body died in a car accident, and eventhough I ran a 5k a year after, have a significant spinal cord injury, raise a severely autistic 13 yr old son by myself, and have never looked to a man to take care of me, for some reason men are intimidated me and want to be my rescuing hero. I don't need a hero. I need a man who is as brave as me.

1000% Agree with that. These people in our country that can’t decide what sex they are on a daily basis,need to spend some time with a Great trainer and some 2&3 yr. old horses. They’ll definitely give em something else to think about.
I'm a regular guy don't got a horse don't own land. The only thing I have in common with Dewayne is that I wear cowboy boots and that I enjoy cigars. The amount of joy and value I get from his videos I can't put into words.
I’m a dad of a 31 year old son, when we were raising him I was pretty tough on him. I’m a Gulf War veteran and I knew I needed to teach him that there is no free meal. He had the usual teenage resentment to me but I always told him I loved him. He started college and he partied and had a good ole time, he failed a couple of classes so I told him that I’m not paying my hard earned money for him to waste. He decided he would join the Marines, after boot camp and infantry training he came home for a few days. He came to me and said he understood why I was tough on him. I explained that I was trying to teach him that I was wanted he to be set up to succeed. He is now very successful and at an older age he appreciates everything I was trying to teach him. and another excellent video! I preach often to not push them so far over threshhold that they feel the need to escape! That doesn't mean you don't challenge them. It means you don't teach them to have bad reactions to pressure and/or fear it. I think that goes along well with "set them up to succeed". I also often say slow and steady wins the race. Little by little they get broke - without anxiety :) I love the analogy of sabotaging the calm. So true!!
Thank you, Dewayne for your insights into horse training. I used to subscribe to the thought that "I'm the cowboy and you're the horse, so I get to drive", and then wondered why my mare and I never really bonded and became partners on the trail. Your talks have helped me to understand that if I want my horse to be my partner, then I have to listen to what she is telling me and give her a voice in what we do while still achieving the same outcome. It's working, and I'm calmer and she's calmer, and we are BOTH having more fun!

Good morning, I pray you and momma are doing well. I would like to thank you for starting your channel and for what you do. My grandfather and my dad raised and worked mules on their farm in Fountain Run KY, and showed their mules at state and local fair's so I have always loved Horses, Mules. But unfortunately for me I was born in 1970 which was to late in their life and by the time I was old enough to get involved, my grandparents had were in bad health and had to sell all of their livestock. With the economy of the 70's my dad found himself trucking which means long hours, so I never got the chance to have horses But, thanks to you and momma, I get to live vicariously through you. Dwayne I have written before, but just want to say again how much I enjoy your show. I have never been on a horse, but love the cowboy way of life, love western history to. My favorite movie of all times is Lonesome Dove "I hate rude behavior in a man! won't tolerate it! love all of Larry McMurtry's western books and movies. I hadn't ridden in almost 50 years. My wife (Olympic level rider) found me a horse. the horse makes my riding look good (I grew up riding western. I'm having to learn English) Tomorrow we go for our first trail ride. It's going to be fun.(we are newlyweds both of us lost a spouse to cancer)

Had a half quarter and mustang that was like that. Didn't like dead fall and wouldn't cross it. By the end of the week she was working better and with a lot love. Tell the momma happy birthday...belated of course!
Dwayne I find your words very encouraging. Your calm demeanor really helps to put things in perspective as well. I think I have been desperate for a companion because I don't know how to live with myself. Be comfortable in my own skin. A lot of my time I just waste doing nothing or playing video games. Well I'll try again and do some things I've been wanting to do, on my own.

Good message. Having an issue with a young horse. He's had 18 months of training and is doing great when my trainer rides him. Most days I ride him all right. When he isn't good it's my fault. I'm going to work harder at setting him up to succeed. My trainer is allot like you what I would classify you guys as cowboy trainers. I don't want to give up on this Mustang he is a great horse. My trainer loves him. The problem is all me. I think your message will help me. Thanks
This is a great video, My dad was a Navy Seal and he said the same things to me growing up and if people would follow this guide lines in life this world would be a better place to live. Everyone needs to hear this know anything in life worth while don"t come easy. I know this is getting off subject but today in one of our local high schools gang of kids beat one person up where he his in the ems was called and he is in very bad shape. If they were taught this was wrong to begin with this stuff would not be happening. I rasised a son and he would never do this to another human being. They have not been trained right. Maybe too late now but if your around lookout mountain. The Tennessee aquarium in Chattanooga is where I've carried my wife. She loves aquariums but this one has a fresh water and salt water part. The fresh water has been my favorite of all I've ever took her too..

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MAMA!!! Dewayne, I don't have nearly the horse experience that you have and am happy to sit at the feet of a master such as yourself at every opportunity I can. Some years ago, I can't remember if I got this from a book I read by Monty Roberts or John Lyons or maybe some trainer or clinician I know, but the gist of the comment was to know your horse, break down whatever was needed to be learned to its smallest parts, and to make whatever we want them to do easier and more pleasurable than them doing whatever they want to do. Give them an easy way to achieve the desired goal and make the undesirable as hard as possible and hopefully less pleasant to do, which all echoes your wisdom to set our horses (and ourselves) up for success. I can relate to your experience with your filly. Again, I don't have nearly your horse experience, but after working around and riding upwards of two hundred horses in my life, I have gotten good enough to just "know" what I'm sitting on within seconds to minutes of observing their behavior. Which isn't to say that I can't be surprised, but in general, if I'm working or riding a new horse, I can just get a feel for that animal immediately. One time I was helping out this older (age 74) man who was a Standardbred owner and driver with and ran a Jewish camp trail riding herd he had. We had just about closed the adult camp weekend and were putting the horses away when some adult camper there for the Labor Day vacation weekend said that he wanted to go on one last trail ride. I wasn't inclined to do it, but my friend, this old man, said to me to ride his Appaloosa gelding out on this trail ride and have this other guy on this other horse who was about as motivated to go out on trail as a wooden post. Long story short, the Appaloosa gelding gave me a the "hairy eyeball" as I walked up to him and I just knew that this bastard was going to do something unpleasant. Sure enough, the SOB reared up on me halfway through the trail ride and dumped me on my entire right side next to a wire fence line of an open pasture while I was trying to help this novice rider who couldn't turn his horse to save his life to follow behind me. The Appy dropped to his butt after dumping me, sitting on my legs (which were wrapped in carbon fiber knee braces from old knee injuries), and then got up and bolted for the trees back to the barn. Annoyed with myself for letting this happen and being grateful I wasn't hurt, I told the other fellow to get off his horse as he was unsafe up there by himself though his horse stood there like a post while I got dumped right next to him. Meanwhile, I hoped the owner of the Appaloosa wouldn't get nervous wondering what happened to me and this rider when the horse returned back to the barn. Well, I sure was surprised when we got to the edge of the woods and there just 30 feet down the trail was this Appy with the guiltiest look on his face saying "Sorry about that." He was just standing there with his head over his shoulder looking back at me. I had never seen a horse with a guilty look before. I wasn't about to get on this horse again and risk getting dumped on a rocky trail, so I gathered him up, and gave the other fellow back his horse and we walked back to the barn. I later learned that night from the Appy's owner that this SOB was a known spooker, would turn on his heels trying to dump his rider and run, and also ran my friend's older brother (76) into the trees banging his brother's knees up badly. Sorry for the long story, but it's just to point out that it's important to understand what we're dealing with when we work with a horse's mind. And it's only through time and experience with a lot of horses that we'll ever learn exactly what to do in a given situation.
@@kellywalker8407, I absolutely believe it. I've never run across a stupid Appaloosa. They always look like they've got something on their mind and that isn't me -- unless it's how to make my life more of a challenge than needed. And of those Appaloosas I've worked around or ridden, at least one ran away with me and one dumped me (the one in the above story). Yeah, as nice as they look, they are definitely a "thinking person's horse." I thought Arabians were a "thinking person's horse", but I think Appaloosas are that much more so. I wonder how Morgans are. I've only worked with a few and liked the older form of Morgan.
@@kellywalker8407, great to know. I've only ridden a few Morgans and Morgan-crosses (mutts more or less) of the old style breeding. Loved them all. I'm not fond of this new line that's more "Saddlebred" looking than the more thickly built lines of the Lippitt look.
They’ll setback against that lead rope.We had a blue-blood $30,000.00 bbl horse mare on a ranch I worked at. The owner hired a young girl to keep her in shape.She tied her to a horse shoe we had welded to the outside of the tack room door,something spooked her,.& she set back on a concrete floor and when she slipped,she went forward and knocked her 2 Top center teethe out.
