We’re getting to know the writers quite well now. It’s getting to a stage where we jackals can fairly accurately guess which writer wrote which joke. (I can always pick a Scollins joke.)
I love how Seth puts the spotlight on his writers. As a writer himself, he knows they largely go unsung. They should get more credit. Or, as demonstrated here, more blame.
@@danielmead146Nah, he's always done this. Colbert is doing it more as well, but Seth seems to go to a lot of effort to get his writers out there in front of people - I think he liked that on SNL and just made sure when had his own show he kept it. And his writer reward him... by absolutely dunking on him every chance they get. Because they love him.
@@westtech001 Seth can definitely take some beratement from his team. Hell, he even dunks on himself periodically when he screws up, live. Fallon is too sterile and scripted.
What makes this show heads above the others is Seth’s interactions with the writers, the staff, the audience, and the jackals. (Real jackals are adorable, btw)
Now we definitely know, Scollins watches corrections. That last one was for us jackals. Edit: I think i need to correct myself, that one was squarely written at Seth, but only jackals can appreciate/truly understand it.
We also know Matt watches Corrections, because he updated his photo. We also know Ian doesn't, because he didn't. (Scollins isn't allowed to update his photo, except by wearing a different tank top to work.)
Matt must have made friends with the graphics dept! I love that Matt used to be in the studio getting people to cheer for his jokes, and then Seth probably kicked him out. Now look at our boy go! Being all, "cool guy!"
@@mattgoldich Oh my, this must be included in our next episode of #corrections (I'm not sure if you're the real Matt Goldich, but I choose to believe so, thx for bringing smiles and groans to our lives)
Matt appearing during Surprise Inspection always ruined the effect of "the writers will never know." But, it was always hilarious. Changing the photo took it a step further.
I love it when you guys are willing to eat it in front of the studio audience for the sake of the chronically online freaks who watch Corrections. So glad Mac Tonight made his way back into the main show.
Seth, Jackal here (well, Mr. Jackal to you) and Ally's answer to why she "[falsetto] Had to write a stinker [/falsetto]" about National Cranberries Day was because: "It was IN MY HEAEAEAD, IN MY HEAEAEAD!."
I’d like to pay tribute to Ian, for this is his last Surprise Inspection after the budget cuts due to the costumes from the last Jokes Seth Can’t Tell segment.
One theory for the nickname's origin is that it was named after a treatment. When someone had penile pus, they 'clapped' their baby batter applicator with either their hands or wooden blocks... ostensibly, this would clear out the pus, thereby curing the infection. This method has largely fallen out of favor, however.
My game when this happens is guessing who did what one. Proud to say this is the third one in a row I’ve accurately guessed. Hope you other jackals are doing well as we near the holidays!
Not a lot of Corrections viewers in the audience then cause that Mac Tonight one felt like it would have got a more favourable reception. Guess I'll have to watch tomorrow to see if gets a callback 😅
I was 100% certain Seth only did surprise inspection to be able to tell the teeth joke on television. And then the Mac joke appeared... Scollins knows how to feed the jackals!
Matt gets a cool new pic now that he's written a highly acclaimed film, so he can't look like a typical late-night TV writer anymore. Also, Corrections lore making it into the actual show? Bravo Scollins!
I can't find any movie that Matt Goldich has written. Seth Reiss (Paul Rudd-looking guy) wrote The Menu and I've just realised he has never been in Surprise Inspection. Did he leave before SI started?
Correction: you said Matt "upgraded" his photo, but I think you mean "updated" since nothing will beat the funky 70s vibe of the last one. Fun fact: the first photo of Matt in Surprise Inspection was a photo of him in a bow tie from a sketch on the show.
When you read the one about the dog, I was alone in my office laughing WAY too hard. Tears rolling down my face (Big guy, strong guy.) SIR!!! That was awful... BUT I LOVED IT!!!!
I've said it once, I'll say it again. We need to have a "jokes Seth can't tell" edition where it is 100% Scollins' jokes that didn't make the monilogue, with Seth reading the setup and Scollins trying to deliver the punchlines. It'll be amazing.
Man it seems like quite a few writers have been learning from Mike Scollins cos man quite a few jokes were so amazingly dark lol 🤣🤣🤣 Also props for the Mac Tonight callback. Amazing!!
@@anro7137 Well it has appeared on surprise inspection before: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-93L301IbEkg.htmlsi=xe0CRV_vAtOplFl1&t=260
Emphasis on "innocent-looking". She has had some really nasty jokes too. I vaguely remember one about seals or something being mangled in a ship propeller. But yeah, she hasn't appeared in a while, surprise inspection or otherwise. I wonder if she left this show.
@colleenheidorn3595 right? A fantastic bit for sure. I'm thinking people need to be over age 40 at minimum to truly linger over the joke and 'get it'. (Music fans or grew up in 80's- 90's)
